  1. The acceptable tolerance +/- for ANALOG altimeters is 250 ft. With that said, have Alti-2 chamber check your analog altimeter to see if it is within tolerance. Based on the pictures you provided, I am going to say it will come back as "within tolerances" as the digital altimeters are balls on accurate.

Just wondering if anyone knows if the military is developing or interested in wingsuit technology. Seems like they would be pretty useful in some cases, especially if they had a place they could land in them.

I was actually tasked with researching this, both fabric and hard wing versions as has been mentioned, simply isn't practical or applicable to the military environment in the current form factors.

For those of you that feel that you wrote the book on wing suiting and that this material could only be stolen, I invite you to take the course with Ben. Wicked Wingsuits will pick up the cost of entry.

we've been waiting next book of yours... now whe know why :D

HAHA, thats pretty funny. :D I was going to post a reply but thought better of it, that horse died a long time ago. Besides, everyone is an expert these days, ya can't throw a hacky without hitting one. :D

    You talking about THIS ONE?

I'll reiterate what has already been said. It's a bad idea and the OPs reasoning for eliminating the wing cutaway sounds like a solution to/for a problem that doesn't exist. "Better to have and not need than to need and not have" is a solid saying in this case.

No, bro. I was talking about the one before, at Raeford, just before Jari came and visited us. I landed in the field right across the street (near Sheck's) on this one. You are talking about the second one at Eloy. Thanks for bringing that back up though.

To this day, I can still see that event like it was yesterday, I thought you were done until I saw reserve. Another good example why wing cutaways are a good idea.

  11. I have several hundred jumps on several sizes of the Firebolt canopy. I have nothing negative to say about it or it's durability. It's a very good, all around canopy when loaded at 1/1 or below. Loaded higher, it becomes a bit more sporty but not in a bad way. It's a fun canopy to fly.

  12. And with that uberchris, enjoy the next 60 days vacation from the forum.

Gisellemartins: let this also be a warning to you too. If you insist on bringing this topic up again and or commit PA's in this thread, you will face the same consequences that I stated in the now locked thread and spend the next 60 days on vacation from the forum with uberchris. Anyone else who engages in PA's and or provokes Giselle in this thread is also eligible for a 60 day sit down. YOU HAVE ALL BEEN WARNED.

  13. OK, this thread is done. No one is even discussing the issue, just "You said" ," No I said" rehashing of old posts. It's just bickering at this point and everyone knows that there isn't much hope of anything more becoming of this thread. The only thing that is certain is that PAs will ensue shortly, so to save some people 60 days of being banned and a waste of bandwidth, the thread has been closed.

  14. REMINDER TO EVERYONE: I have been extremely tolerant of everyone posting in this thread. Some of you still cannot stop yourselves from using words and or descriptives that constitute a Personal Attack (PA). Here's the deal, you can stop it completely from here on out OR I will ban the offending parties for 60 days and lock this thread. If you cannot express yourself without committing a PA then step away from the keyboard and this thread. By all means, continue the discussion but leave the PA's and insults out of it. That is all. :)

His support so far has been excellent, but in this case he just bailed out and would not do anything unless I gave him more money (for something I already paid for). This attitude towards paying customers is not cool.

Klaus is a standup guy and as its been said, he has a real life outside of his superhero skydiver identity. I've never known him to not respond unless he was busy. You are not the first person to ask for older versions of the software that are no longer supported. Klaus has on occasion gone out of his way to help people who had older versions and failed to back them up or had their system crash when he easily could of told them "too bad". So I don't think its fair to say that he has an attitude, especially when he has a link to the archive on the home page.;)

  16. Jeff, you and anyone else can try and hide behind all the proxies you want, the MODs don't care. We figure out who's who fairly quickly, quicker than it takes people to set up behind all their proxies just so they can spew some playground barbs at others.

You or anyone else who posts to this forum shouldn't have to be called on the carpet to finally man up to something you wrote. If you stand by your original comment you should have said it from your usual user name. A good rule of thumb that I have advocated in the forums over the years to everyone is if they wouldn't say it to someones face in person, they probably shouldn't post it to a forum. Likewise, if they decide to post something to a forum and they feel the need to hide behind another user name to do it they should probably reevaluate why they are posting it in the first place and why they feel the need to hide from others and their own comments. Say what you mean and mean what you say and don't be afraid to take responsibility for your actions, comments and or beliefs online and in person.

My calling you out on your bullshit doesn't make me self important but if thinking that helps you look at your self in the mirror and sleep sound at night then power to you, however I find it highly unlikely that you would repeat that in person as you claim. But it is good to see that your balls have finally dropped and you expressing your real thoughts for a change. Stay thirsty my friend.:)

  17. Let me save you some time. I have also seen one guy use a downhill speed skier helmet for wingsuit flight trying to be more aerodynamic, that thing was a nightmare as well. I spent a lot of time doing research on just the thing you stated above. You can do all the same research or you can take what I have found and save yourself some time and not endanger yourself jumping crazy contraptions.

As you stated, a lot of time and money has been spent on cycle helmet testing in hopes of being more aerodynamic. The most relevant research and testing I have found that was scientifically conducted with quantifiable data came to the conclusion that the human head without exposed ears was the most aerodynamically efficient model shape. This was discovered during the testing of cycle helmets like the ones you posted pictures of and others. The test stand used an instrumented dummy head (minus ears)that the helmets were mounted on for testing. In order to establish a base line they ran the test on the dummy head without a helmet, then ran all the helmet designs. The dummy head had the best aerodynamic numbers out of all the designs. Since we don't have to wear helmets like is mandated in other sports for protective reasons, the best option would be to wear a tight balaclava type of hood to cover your ears and hair. An example of this can be seen in the track suits that a few olympians wore several years back some of which have incorporated the dimples you mentioned as well as trying to simulate the texture found on sharks skin as they have been found to be very efficient hydrodynamical. I posted more info along these lines several years back in the wingsuit forum as we had a similar helmet discussion, I may have even posted some pictures from the research, I can't remember to be honest as it was some time ago.

There you have it, hope that saves you some time.:)

  19. Yes, a few wingsuiters have flown a similar style of helmet in the past. It is an incredibly bad idea not only from a snag standpoint but also given its proximity to the reserve top container flap and potentially limiting the flaps ability to fully open.

If this is one big family, it is the most dysfunctional family I have ever witnessed.

That's an understatement if I've ever heard one. A lot of the dysfunction occurs online. Go to a boogie and everyone is smiles and jumps together and if you bring up an ongoing topic of discussion, all of a sudden there isn't an issue anymore, face to face conversations are entirely different than what is encountered online in my experience. It really is a shame IMO as there really is no reason there has to be this much drama all of the time. I cannot tell you how many times I've spoken to other skydivers and been told the reason they didn't fly or want to fly a wingsuit was due to all the drama they observed from the outside looking in. In all honesty, I can't blame them for feeling that way.

I don't see the purpose of being so vague.

I thought I was rather clear in that they should speak to the manufacturer. Why do I suggest this instead of providing the answers? A few reasons actually. First off, a search would reveal that there are several very in depth explanations on the functioning parameters that need to be met. Second, I know that by typing a detailed response out it will only generate pages of responses that argue the facts or simply obscure the answer with white noise. Third, if the small group of people that really want to know about something be it this topic of any of the others in any forum, will do a search and or will call/e-mail the manufacturer for a detailed explanation. Lastly, what better place to get it straight from the horses mouth than the manufacturer? It also goes back to that old analogy, "give a man a fish, he eats for a day, teach a man to fish, he eats forever".

So many times over the years I have seen the same questions in the forums, which is natural given the turn over in the sport, however it always tends to be the same small group of people providing the correct answers. I think this is a reflection of todays society of instant gratification and wanting something for nothing or very little effort. If more people took the time to do some researching on their own and find the answers instead of relying on others to always provide them to them, perhaps they would remember these answers and one day be able to repeat them to others. No one thinks to RTFM or call/e-mail the manufacturer, instead their first instinct is to go online to a forum some where and ask questions and take strangers answers as gospel over what can be found in the manual or be had by contacting the people who make the item in the first place. Because of this laziness I think there is actually more misinformation and or partial facts out there than facts and people are happy to perpetuate them rather than do a bit of the work themselves. Everyone wants an AAD that is infallible but no one wants to take the time to understand how and why it works other than pushing a button when they see a light flash in front of them. And that is why people will believe the shit found in those "fact sheets" or what they read on the internet. Hence, my suggestion to contact the manufacturer in hopes that at least one person would and they would get the indisputable truth to this question and many others.

Probably because nobody has created an equivalent paper attacking the Vigil that vehemently. That "fact sheet" has been out for a while and has an unknown author as far as I know.

The Cypres and Vigil "fact sheets" were created by the same person who happens to work for another AAD company, it's not hard to trace either back to the author if one knows how. Both were created to paint a negative picture as some of you have deduced, they shouldn't be taken seriously as they are highly questionable.

I would also recommend that a few of you take the time to go back and review your information or better yet, call /e-mail Cypres and ask about what happens at what altitude and the parameters required to reach the firing altitude of the unit as it appears, based on your statements, you don't fully understand them.

So for example even if you crank up the oxygen flow, at some point having a cannula, small hose in one's mouth, or a mask with holes is not enough.

As you stated, it is not enough. Using this method is the norm in civilian skydiving but is really only good at barely staving off hypoxia at lower levels. What people fail to realize is that any system where you can breath O2 AND ambient air above 18k ft is pretty much worthless as you have not purged and or are still introducing nitrogen into your blood stream. Hypoxia is just one of the issues to be concerned about, DCS is also a very serious one to be concerned about but often not discussed or known. The only solution is a full face mask with a constant seal ( not taking it away from your face) and prebreathing for the correct time to purge the nitrogen from your system.

Pressure breathing and diluter demand accomplish the same thing just in a different manner. The newer systems use the later as pressure breathing is only good if you have a constant supply which usually means you are hooked up to a console of some kind, it also makes communicating/talking just about impossible. Imagine every time you opened your mouth or breathed in it felt like a someone was shooting a firehose of air into your lungs, it's not fun at all.
