  1. Nice photo of the NY falls in the avatar.

I may be moving to the northeast or Colorado. i've already have some Colorado connections, but NYC is also a possibility.

Jumping big NYC buildings and partying in NYC is a definite must. Anyone in the NYC crew up for some fun?

  2. read Yuri Kouznetsov's (outrager) article on the subject. it changed the way i thought about the risk assessment on sites, particularly towers. zero wind will always be more dangerous than moderate wind down the wire.

  3. yes, channel 20. he's my hero as ridiculous as this may seem. i cannot believe this dude actually bungee jumped in the atrium of the downtown building, too. kudos to the blue bandit.

  5. mudvein, worldsocold is my favorite song. PM for further questions. I'm starting to gain interests in other things than BASE after going for it major hardcore for many, many years. I'm willing to pass the knowledge...

  6. i've jumped in 60 mph winds but that is only for the most advanced A jumpers.

perpendicular to the winds is not the ideal launch direction based on personal experiences.

  7. knowledge is always better. relying on luck will only haunt you in the long run. once you follow the real rules of the game, your jumping abilities will greatly increase as well as your safety margin.

  8. i have about 450 A jumps. try to do as long of a delay as possible to provide as much vertical speed as possible relative to the horizontal wind speed. jump straight with a good horizontal launch as usual. the wind will tend to wind sock your canopy so your canopy will tend to open downwind. if you jump 45 degrees crosswind, then you may easily have a 180 with a half line twist. if winds are going down the left wire and are relatively strong, for example, and you have a 90 left, don't correct by turning right. correct by turning left, face into the wind, and continue the turn. if you turned to the right, the long arc path of the canopy will easily put you into a wire. when jumping terminal from an A in a very strong wind down the wire, you will have to fly your body like in a relative wind. you will have to compensate with your body flight because it will pitch you in ways that are really strange. with winds behind you and blasting, a horizontal launch can cause the wind to hit your feet and pitch you headdown, similar to a prop-blast a rear facing exit.

  9. He climbed it with some sort of strange gear involving glass handling suction cups. My friend has video of it. Buildings were so easy to get at the time that the consequences were minimal to the local community. Also, it was more of a stunt than the traditional stealth building jump.

When he climbed it, the building manager kept removing windows to get him. He kept going around the windows. 20 feet from the top, all the cops and building people were on the top smiling and holding a sign that said "you are guilty of trespassing." He pulled a small wooden plank to use as an exit point. He stuck it between the 1 inch deep groove section that separates the floors. He climbed on it, looked back at the cops, gave them the finger, and then jumped. Unfortanately his platform broke but he came out OK. He opened high and flew a deliberate pattern to exhaust the police on foot. He tried to land on a parking garage but he missed. His witless friend tried to grab some of his lines as he passed which would have killed both of them. The cops got him and did the telephone book treatment on him. Quoting from a website: And as for the phone book -- "They hold the phone book to your face and they punch you. That way it doesn't leave bruises. What can you do? Complain?"

  10. David Adcock climbed the exterior of a 970 foot building in downtown Houston in the 1980s. He wore a skydiving rig when he did it. That's incredible since one's balance is changed so much from wearing a rig. He did it twice. The first climb was at night. The second was at noon and he got into some legal trouble. At least he got the jump.

AMSTERDAM (Reuters) - Dutch students have developed powdered alcohol which they say can be sold legally to minors.

The latest innovation in inebriation, called Booz2Go, is available in 20-gramme packets that cost 1-1.5 euros ($1.35-$2).

Top it up with water and you have a bubbly, lime-colored and -flavored drink with just 3 percent alcohol content.

"We are aiming for the youth market. They are really more into it because you can compare it with Bacardi-mixed drinks," 20-year-old Harm van Elderen told Reuters.

Van Elderen and four classmates at Helicon Vocational Institute, about an hour's drive from Amsterdam, came up with the idea as part of their final-year project.

"Because the alcohol is not in liquid form, we can sell it to people below 16," said project member Martyn van Nierop.

The legal age for drinking alcohol and smoking is 16 in the Netherlands.

In Germany, alcopops -- sweet drinks containing alcohol and in powder form -- caused quite a stir when launched on to the market. Alcohol powder, classified as a flavoring, was sold in the United States three years ago.

The students said companies interested in making the product commercially could avoid taxes because the alcohol was in powder form. A number of companies are interested, they said.

  12. I say pretty much the say thing to new jumpers.

If your terrified out of your mind and your not having any fun, why do it? If you walk down, you'll feel better but your ego may be bruised. If you jump and everything goes OK, the experience won't be rewarding. If you jump and get hurt, you're going to tell yourself that you a complete idiot for not listening to your feelings.

  13. Blanking strips are good technique when packing reserves, particularly seat reserves. That darn hook velcro will decimate the canopy fabric. Just like sitting next to a woman with stockings and you have some velcro on your pants or something. God, this creates terribly socially awkward moments.

  14. get a fish scale and do a pull test on the bridle.. tell us how much force is required to open the thing.

do this for a few different pull orientations.

  15. yeah, how the hell do you get a DUI for kayaking while intoxicated in some remote location?

just like the policy we have at my work campus. if you get too many jay walking offenses through a point system, you get your driving priveleges taken away!

  16. This is the same exact point used by Dennis McGlynn's lawyer. The circuit court federal judge didn't buy the argument. Dennis did several months of federal time for it though after all was said and done. It was ridiculous because he landed in water that was not considered NPS jurisdiction. Dennis and his lawyer were trying to gain the resources to take it to the U.S. Supreme Court. There are others here on this forum who are more familiar with the details of the case.

  17. I've been chased by a 10 foot alligator while walking out on a jump. On another occasion, a 5 foot alligator nearly got my leg after landing in a tree with an alligator pit below unbeknownst to me.
