Heya all,
Well, if you're all work and no play, here's how to disable the Guestbook and Friends List features on your profile:- Click on the "Settings" link in the main forum navigation bar at the top
- On the Edit Display Profile page that comes up change the "Disable Guestbook?" and "Disable Friends List?" dropdowns to "Yes"
- Click the Make Profile Changes button to save your settings

I moved this back to BF. There's no reason to move this thread around as long as it remains to be a discussion about a GIFT. If you try to change this to a religious discussion your posts will simply be removed. You're welcome to go start a topic discussing your religious opinions about First Communion in Speakers Corner.

QuoteGosh do I hate the recent change that places "My Stuff" in the top left. It completely alters the way the page formats and makes it tough for me to navigate. See the attached screen grab.
My monitor is a portrait display (unusual, I know), and the addition of the My Stuff block pushes everything else to the right, requiring that I use the bottom scroll bar to read or write posts. That's really inconvenient and adds a huge amount of mouse movement to page navigation. The change appears to have happened early Sunday morning, April 27.
Hey Tom,
97.05% of our users currently visit DZ.com with screen resulotions of 1024x768 and higher which is in line with current web trends. For this reason we've started to optimize our pages for that display size. If you're still viewing the site with a 800x600 screen the layout will unfortunately not be optimized for your display.
That being said, I've added an option that will allow you to turn off the sidebar on the left. See here.
That should help you on the forum pages. You will however see a gradual shift in the entire site over time towards a design that's optimized for 1024x768 screens.
Hope that helps.Safe swoops

Heya all,
We've received a lot of feedback on the new layout and changes. Thanks for that.
One change that seem to be creating some usability issues for users with lower screen resolutions is the addition on the new sidebar on the left of the screen. I've added an option that will allow registered users to hide this sidebar and My Stuff menu. To do this:- Click on the "Settings" link in the main forum navigation bar at the top
- On the Edit Display Profile page that comes up change the "Hide My Stuff Menu" dropdown to "Yes"
- Click the Make Profile Changes button to save your settings
Please note we will continue to push features, links and services to the My Stuff box.Safe swoops

Heya all,
As you will have noticed we've made a few changes to the forums. The largest changes were to the look, feel and functionality your individual Profile pages. We spiced those up a bit and added some new functionality and features. There are other changes that impact the forums as a whole. below is a brief descrition of some of the more prominet changes and pointers on new functionlaity that you might want to check out.
Avatar / Profile Image management
We've completely changed how avatars (and now also profile images) are uploaded and managed. Here are a few pointers:- You can upload any image as long as it's less than 1000x1000 pixels and doesn't weigh more than 500kb
- The Avatar and Profile image sizes will be created automatically - no need to size and crop your own image.
- You can have up to a maximum of 10 profile images uploaded at any given time.
- You can set any of these as your avatar/profile image by simply selecting the radio button under the image and clicking on the "Set as Profile Image" button
- If you've reached your upload limit you'll have to delete an old image to upload a new one.
- You can set your avatar / profile image to "none" if you don't want do disaplay an image.
- A link to Upload / Edit your image can be found at the top of the left navigation bar on your profile page.
Friends Lists Added- Create a lsit of firends by click on the 'Add as friend" link on any user's profile
- A Friend request will be sent to the user via PM in which he/she can either accept / decline your request
- Accepting a friend request will add the both of you to each other's lists
- You can remove friends by clicking on "Remove" next to the username in the fiends list
- Friends can write to your guestbook (see below)
- Click on "Edit" in the top right corner of the widget to select who can view your Friends list - You Only, Your Friends or Everyone.
Guestbook added- You have your own guestbook on your profile where your friends (only people on your friends list) can leave you messages
- Use the Quick Message form on the Profile page to leave a simple message
- Use the Advanced Post Form (link at the bottom) to include smilies and mark a post a "Private"
- Posts marked as Private can only be read by the profile owner
- You can Ban your fiends from posting to your guestbook
- Go to "Settings" in the Primary Forum navigation at the top to switch the guestbook on or off clompletely
Google location map added- Set your loation on the map by moving the map and marker to your current location and saving.
- change your location at any time by clicing on "Edit" in the top right corner of the widget and resetting the marker
- Use the control buttons in the header of the widget to enlarge (or shrink) the map or center it at your location at any time
- Toggle the checkboxes under the map to see DZs, your Friends or other dropzone.com Users near and around you who have entered their locations.
Recent threads started- A list of recent threads started by you are displayed on your Profile.
- Click on "Edit" in the top right corner of the widget to set the number of threads to display and how far back the search should reach.
- TIP: you can "balance" your profile view quite nicely by increasin the number of threads to display.
Recent Photos uploaded- Thumbnails of your 7 most recently uploaded photos (to the Photo Galleries) are shown
- Go to the Photo Galleries and submit images to fill this space
Recent Videos uploaded- Thumbnails of your 7 most recently uploaded videos (to the Video Section) are shown
- Go to the Video Section and submit clips to fill this space
Navigational Changes- The links in the Forum Primary navigation at the top of each page has changed to reflect some of these chages
- A Global Personal Navigation (GPN) element (showing links to your Account, Profile, Email, Pivate Messages, Photos Videos etc) have been added to the new left side panel in the forums.
- The GPN can also be seen on newer sections of the site like the Photo Galleries and the Videos Section and will ultimately "follow you around" the entire site for easy access to your own content.
My Forum Posts- There's a new link included in the main forum navigation bar and the GPN called My Posts
- Clicking on this will show all your posts as well as all your Wathced Threads
- Click on the "manage" link in the Watched Threads table title to remove bookmarked threads from yuor list
OK - I probably missed a few things but this should get you going. Feel free to leave comments or let me know if you bump into issues. We'll ad more "widgets" (like your posted classifeds, gear reviews, DZ reviews etc) in the near future.
Have fun!Safe swoops

QuoteIt's not a problem, just curious here. I changed my profile quote to GOLD color and it changed the forum titles to the same as well.
Didn't know I was that powerful.

Remember:- DO NOT do business with anyone who offers to send you payment for a higher amount than your selling price with the understanding that you'll send back the balance.
- Be suspicious of anyone claiming to be acting on behalf of a "client" or another "customer".
- Be suspicious of anyone claiming to be from Nigeria or West Africa
- If you agree to accept a check payment, then do not send anything, gear or "change" before the check cleared. And be careful, if you manage to clear a fraudulent check then you may be liable for the damages if the bank finds out later. Make sure your bank authenticates the check.

QuoteHeya all,
We're streamlining the process by which avatars are being uploaded and added to profiles. I'm not sure why this is happening but obviously something in the new code is causing this. I'll take a look into it.
Oops... that would be my alter-ego posting.
I can see the issue as well.Safe swoops

QuoteHis myspace bulletin said he could no longer access the forums through his log-in.
Unless he has login issues locally on his PC, that's not true. I just checked his account and all his permissions are fine.Safe swoops

QuoteAccording to his MySpace bulletins ... he has been banned.
He has not been banned from any forum or the site at all. He sent me a PM asking how his posts was being perceived by the moderators. I answered him. I never heard from him again. Even before I answered him he said that he may back off for a while. That's his choice. He's free and able to post here at any time. If he is saying (I didn't check) that he has been banned then he's being dishonest. I hope that's not the case.Safe swoops

Heya all,
Unrelated to the power issues that caused last night's downtime....
Over the next week or so we're going to do a major hardware upgrade on all three our web servers. The goal is to improve overall site performance and to create redundancy for future growth. The servers will be removed one at a time, upgraded and reintroduced into the server cluster. If all goes well this should be a seamless experience. In fact, the first upgrade has already been done.
Please bare with us if you do encounter the occasional hic-up though. We'll let you know when it's all done. Your overall experience of the site will be much smoother and faster afterwards.
Thank you for your patience.Safe swoops

Heya all,
We experienced a site outage which started at around 10:30 pm PST last night. This was due to a major power issue in Vancouver where the servers are hosted.
We're still working to ensure everything is functioning normally but apologize for the inconvenience.
Thank you for understanding.Safe swoops

QuoteCorporation?
So this is definitely a business then?
So I'm not crazy when I point out that we are "customers" not "guests"?
If ever there was a dead horse...
People who but advertising on this site are customers. Have you ever paid for anything on here? So the answer is yes, you are crazy.Safe swoops
