Also, heh - reality check here. If you're a dude, in an AFF class, with almost no jumping experience and no time around the sport - you are gonna have to be exceptionally amazing as a person in personality, looks or both to get her attention.

It's like 2:1 dudes to chicks (or worse) on a dropzone, she likely has more attention than she knows what to do with.
    :)

you can find a million excuses not to ask out any girl you see anywhere.

    not just at a dropzone.

this is exactly the type of attitude that keeps you at the corner of the dance floor.

  2. hi.

    1) its totally normal to be scared and fear death. im sure a lot, if not most, skydivers do fear death. its what keeps us from getting complacent.

    2) there are plenty of people who learn to skydive in their 30's. you really gotta have your shit together financially to be in this sport because its very expensive - not every 20 year old can manage that.

    3) for the love of god.. please use paragraphs when you type a wall of text.

    4) there are people from different walks of earth with different personality types in this sport. we can't just tell you whether you can be a skydiver by reading one post. truth is, you have to make that decision for yourself by going out there and doing it. you only live once, you can use that as a reason to jump off an airplane, or you can use that as an excuse to live a safe and comfortable lifestyle - the decision is up to you.

  3. I am a new jumper like you, and I will be jumping a 210 pulse loaded at 1.07, my gear is on its way.

However I at 28 jumps, I am still having a lot of fun flying my 260 manta that I started with. Turbulence still freaks me out, and my landings are nowhere near perfect.

Next week I will be attempting my first forward leaning landing approaches, with the chest trap loosened up.

I have no intentions of moving to a 230 yet, frankly I don't really give a shit about downsizing because I am not bored of the 260.

I got the 210 canopy because that size was recommended to me by my instructors.... and I found a hell of a deal.

I feel no pressure to jump it, if it takes me 80-100 jumps to downsize to a 210, so be it.

Truth is, where is the rush? I keep reading posts on these forums about people wanting to downsize quickly, get their A-licenses in a week, do AFF in a weekend...

    WHY?

Enjoy your skydives and have fun, there is no point in rushing - and its fucking dangerous.

  4. do we have statistic reports that show Cypres vs Vigil failure percentage rates?

Also, reading the Vigil reviews, what is your opinion on this statement:

" I personally like all the things I listed in the "Pros" section at the beginning of this review, but my favorite feature of the vigil is the way it determines if it should activate or not. Unlike the Cypres Expert, which decides at 1000ft to activate at 750ft if the parameters have been met (a person who deploys at a low altitude and snivels through 1000 ft at a speed greater than 78 mph will get a reserve opening at 750ft even if their main canopy is fully deployed at 900ft), the Vigil measures the speed of descent and calculates the estimated time to activation altitude every 8th of a second. The result (as I understand it) is that the situation that would result if a two-canopy-out situation in the example with the Cypres above, would not have the same potentially desaterous consequences with a Vigil. This wold have eliminated at least three two-canopy-out situations that I have witnessed over the years. This feature alone makes the Vigil a better choice in my opinion."

I found this online regarding the cypres,

    http://www.skysurfer.com.au/wiki/images/2/2d/CYPRES_AAD_FACT_SHEET.pdf

but could not find something for the Vigil.

  5. I found a container that fits, for a decent price.

    I weight 195 lb.

this is a like-new container that holds 190-230.

My first canopy will be a 230. I want to be 1 to 1, as recommended.

As far as weight and height sizing goes I fit right in, except for the waist size... I am size 33-36(depending on how much I ate that day :P)

The container however is sized for 38" to 45".

    Thoughts?

A Red Dot brand cue ball falls at average belly speed. I don't remember the exact weight or speed. Please have someone very experienced with you if you do this. You could kill someone.

When you get more experience playing catch in freefall is alot of fun. Either have someone who has done it with you or have a very experienced person talk to someone who has. You could kill someone.

but in all seriously, ya i definitely didn't think about the fact that it might hit someone/break someones roof on the way down.

i wonder if there is another way to tell if i am sliding, without having a point of reference.
