just trying to figure out where you are at in the process so i can help you click the right buttons. if you double click on that clip in the bin it appears in the source window right? then you should be able to designate which parts you want to go into the timeline by deselecting the appropriate purplish buttons on the left of the timeline label "A1" or "A2" or both. then put your cursor and little blue status line on the begining of the timeline by dragging or click the home key. put your in and out up in the source where you want them with the "I" for in and "O" for out keys. then push the "B" key also known as overwrite and the parts of the clip that are highlighted purple in the timeline buttons will show up on the timeline.

if you've already got it all in the timeline you can always enter the overwrite mode little read arrow near the bottom left of the timeline or the apostrophe key on the keyboard. then you should be giving avid the finger with a little finger when you scroll over the timeline. if you click on the part you want to remove it should become highlighted. then you can simply hit the delete key to remove it...
just don't forget to get out of the overwrite mode when you're done or it'll change other things you try to move or do later.
