Roof blows of Airkix?!

Recommended Posts

Just been told of a radio report that the roof has blown of Airkix?! No, not a testament to the power of the fans in the tunnel, but that we are suffering 40-60 mph winds here in the UK at the moment.

Hope it's not too serious!

High winds lift off Airkix roof

THE city's indoor skydiving centre has had its roof ripped off - by high winds.
Emergency services have sealed off the roads surrounding the Airkix wind tunnel, including the V8 Marlborough Street, after last night's gales ripped off its roof at about 4.30am.

Pieces from the catapult ride next to the big wheel in the Theatre District were also blown off and scattered by the wind.

Workman are at present waiting for the wind to die down before before attempting to repair the Airkix roof.

Looks like that has been updated a bit

The top layer of the roof was whisked off by the wind and dumped nearby, leaving the second layer flapping in the wind.

At present Milton Keynes Council is meeting representatives from the Buckingham Group, who built the wind tunnel, to decide whether it is safe to repair the roof.

The roof is actually two separate skins and the top skin has indeed parted from the structure in high winds at about 4am.

It must have lifted, turned 90 degrees and landed on the tarmac underneath missing lights, lamposts, trees etc. It was almost entirely intact as a single piece.

Builders are on-site and the debris is being cleared and anything loose is being secured.

As soon as that is completed, hopefully later today, we expect to be operational. Standby for additional information.
