Layoff & canopy size question

Recommended Posts

I did 2 static line jumps in September then got a run of crappy weather on days that I
was free to jump. Then with winter fast approaching I decided to put off my training til spring.
With a layoff this long, I assume that I will have to re-take the FJC?

Second question- My instructor told me that after I was off the static line he was going to put me
under a 190 canopy. That seemed kinda small for somebody with less than 10 jumps but he said
"youll be fine". I weigh 170 with no gear, will a 190 be ok ya think?

Less than 10 jumps and be at 1:1....WTF!!! :o :o :o >:(!

And the sim says for students over 6 months with no jumps...yeah repeat FJC. Good luck when spring comes....See what people with more experience say....but I'd stay away from a 190 until you have more jumps. I'd say IMHO go to a 1:1 once you have your A.

Probably. It depends on the dropzone, but at some, taking the FJC as a refresher is a little cheaper than
taking it for the first time - asking is free.

I don't know if that's OK for you or not. I can say that I weigh 180-185 dry and around 210 out the
door, and with 39 jumps, I've never been on anything smaller than a 240 (0.88). The 240 was just on
a few of the most recent jumps, too; before that it was a 260 (0.81) and before that a 280 (0.75).
