Zennie 0 #1 September 4, 2001 Welp, since I couldn't skydive today, I did my second-favorite pastime.... geeking out with high-tech toys.I went out & bought one of the Visiontek GeForce3 3D cards and put it through its paces with Max Payne. All I gotta say is Holy Fuckin' Shit!!!! Why didn't I get one of these bad boys sooner? Yeah sure I coulda spent that money on jumps, but it's money well spent for great rainy-day activities! Plus Carmack's writing Doom 3 against the GeForce 3 so I'm all set!--------Zennie"I know the pieces fit. Grogs 0 #3 September 4, 2001 QuoteAll I gotta say is Holy Fuckin' Shit!!!! Why didn't I get one of these bad boys sooner? Ummm.... could it be because they're running $300? I could pick up a 1.4 GHz processor, motherboard, and 512 MB of DDR SDRAM for that price. Or maybe even [gasp] make 16 skydives with it.Of course I don't really run any seriously graphics intensive games, so my GeForce2 MX (which I got for $65) doesn't have any problem keeping up. Until my system seriously starts getting it's ass kicked with some of the newer games, I doubt I'll be upgrading it.
Zennie 0 #4 September 4, 2001 QuoteUntil my system seriously starts getting it's ass kicked with some of the newer games, I doubt I'll be upgrading it.Well I had a Voodoo 3 on an AMD 600. Lasted me about 2 years, which is pretty darn good, but it just couldn't keep up anymore, so it was upgrade time for me.I'll prolly upgrade the MB/CPU next since I eventually want to have a dedicated box for my webserver & then the "hot" box for my day to day stuff.--------Zennie"I know the pieces fit. xAer0 0 #5 September 4, 2001 Man, why did you have to torture me like that?I am on my dual PII/333 I made my self and a plain TNT...I play the hell out of Quake 3, but Doom 3...well...scary...Oh well, I'm prolly coming to the US next year for a PhD, so I'll upgrade accordingly...then we can all spend rainy weekends kicking each others butt in Doom 3!Don't pull low, unless you are afraid of heights!Tefkros
Zennie 0 #6 September 4, 2001 I forgot to mention Return to Castle Wolfenstein as another reason. As far as Doom 3 goes, the preview pics are mind-blowing.There are screenshots here & here.--------Zennie"I know the pieces fit. zclubber1 0 #7 September 4, 2001 Zennie,You are ABSOLUTELY right about that card. I'm running the GeForce 3 on a P4 1.5ghz box and Max Payne looks awesome. Have you checked out the Giants with all the new patches? Killer! Plus, Nvidia is releasing an external add-on box for the card that will have video capture ability. Composite and s-video in and out. Not firewire, but it may still work out well for video editing.http:// http://gamespot.com/gshw/stories/news/0,12836,2808783,00.html P.S. Not only am I waiting from Doom 3, but Quake 4 and Unreal 2. Just sick!-can't you trip like I do-Clubber

Slappie 9 #9 September 5, 2001 I have a feeling this is going to be a very cool game!!http://gamespot.com/gamespot/stories/previews/0,10869,2810240,00.html The screen shots are enough to make me drool waiting to see Zennie come around the corner of one of the hallways and blast him into frag-meat!! and laff at his demise!! zclubber1 0 #10 September 5, 2001 I played a little of Wolfenstein at E3 this year. It's kickass. But Quake 4 is just getting started. If I find the link again I'll post it, but as far as I know, Quake 4 and Doom 3 will each have their own engines. Doom 3 is supposed to be more story driven and made for single player while Quake 4 should be mostly multiplayer. I could be wrong though. Haven't seen any screen shot from Quake yet.-can't you trip like I do-Clubber
