jerolim 7 #1 January 15, 2014 Hi Riggers, I have purchased 1983 durkopp (made in east Germany) industrial machine that is capable of sewing strait and zigzag stitch. I have been playing with E and F cords, and with needles 100 - 140 (singer #16-#22). I have been able to punch trough everything so far. I have put(squeezed) 10 layers of webbing under foot. And with 140 and F type it produced great zigzag stitch without any effort. I was wondering if it could work with cord type 5 thread, and I am ordering some from paragear. I aim for 4 layers of type 7 webbing and cord type 5 thread. But I am having problems finding needle larger than 160 (singer #23). Where can I buy 230 (singer #26) in Europe ? Do I really need 230 size to work with cord type 5 ? I have asked machine service they never heard of this needle,.. Needle system is 134(R). Also, I am putting speed reducer and I'll produce even more torque Thanks in advance!
theonlyski 3 #2 January 15, 2014 You'll find that the #26 needle probably won't fit in the machine and that your smaller needles will not work too well with 5 cord. You MIGHT be able to swing FF and possibly 3 cord with that machine, but I'm willing to bet 5 will be too much for it to handle. Even if you could, you'd probably have to spend a long time winding new bobbins. ETA: This is the difference in size between I believe a #22 and a #25 or #26. masterrigger1 2 #5 January 15, 2014 What is the machine class and sub-class? I am thinking it probably is a 265-XX... MELSkyworks Parachute Service, LLC www.Skyworksparachuteservice.com

If it is built for #69 (e thread), it will not work for 5 cord. The reason is the hook to race clearance and also the clearance at the positioning finger. IF...and I did say IF..., the positioning finger clearance is increased, it MIGHT work, but I truly doubt it. I have some 135 X 7 #25 needles here that you could use to see. masterrigger1 2 #10 January 15, 2014 I have never seen one of those! Is it a lockstitch machine or a chainstitch machine? With all of the tensioners it looks like a chainstitch machine from the photo.
