it will take awhile before we know what happened.

something (out of many possible) went wrong on the second most critical stage of the mission.
possibly a wrong angle of entrance, speed, or heat shields not working.

Condolences to the people of Israel. Ilon was the son of Holocaust survivors, and is survived by his wife and 4 children. May they rest in the knowledge that he gave Israel wings.

Ilan Rmon was a Col. in the Israeli air force and took part in many missions including the destruction of the iraqi nuclear reactor in 1981.

on this mission he was our first man in space, and for that we thank NASA and the American People.
and again, would like to deliver our condolences to the rest of the crew's families and the rest of you out there.
