A chance to win some awesome Asylum Designs or Basic Research gear!!

Recommended Posts

How would you like to maybe win yourself one of two awesome Basic Research packages consisting of:

- a Basic Research BASE pilot chute!
- a Basic Research BASE logbook!
- a Basic Research sticker!

And help a fellow BASE jumper raise money for a worthy cause at the same?
Sound good? Then please, read on...
On July 24th, myself and three team-mates will be competing in the "3 Peaks Challenge". We have to summit the three tallest mountains in Britain within 24 hours (Ben Nevis in Scotland, Scaffell Pike in England, and Snowdon in Wales). Why? Well, because they're there!
Also, because the event raises money for Action Medical Research, a charity that funds research into a number of medical areas, from diabetes to artificial joints.

Basic Research, who have for a long time been a pillar of the BASE community, offering some of the best equipment, training, and support there is, have contributed these prizes solely to support my fundraising efforts. I am not a Basic Research employee (I wish I was!) There are two packages up for grabs...

So, how might you win one of these packages?

Well, all you have to do to be entered into the prize draw is to contribute a minimum of £2.50 (approximately $4.00) into my online fundraising account (the funds are paid directly to Action Medical Research, so credit cards are fine.) For every £2.50 you contribute, you'll be entered once. (So £5.00 will buy you two entries, £7.50 will buy you three entries, and so on). The two winners will be notified on August 25th 2004.

To contribute, just go to the link below (don't forget to leave your email address in the message box, in case you win!):

www.action.org.uk/~BASE539

So please, go ahead, help out a fellow BASE jumper, contribute to a worthy cause, and maybe win a really cool prize... you know you want to!

Oh, and also, you can laugh knowing the pain I'll be in trying to drag myself up and down Snowdon (the last mountain) in the middle of the night, with my legs still back at Ben Nevis, and my brain back at Scaffell Pike!

Thanks for reading,
Mark Amodeo, BASE 539.

Walking up one of those bastards sounds like unnecessary pain to me- you want to do the three, one after the other?

I think you've totally lost the plot, fella. Bet you're the kind of person that would jump off a cliff "just cause it was there".

Good luck with reaching and surpassing your target and kudos to BR for offering stuff good enough to get tight bastards like me to have a punt.

Looking forward to receiving my new PC. :P

Thanks to those who have contributed and offered words of - ahem - encouragement?

Great idea to bump this when the folks are back from Moscow. In fact, I'll probably keep bumping it on a regular basis.

See ya!

Oh, one thing: Asylum Designs and Basic Research will not be responsible for shipping costs. Shipping will be the responsibility of the winners, although I might cover shipping costs myself, depending on where the winner lives!
But these prize packages are all worth in excess of $100.00 USD. And a ticket is only around $4.50 right now!! Think about it!

Some more info about Action Medical Research's achievments. And remember, even if you don't live and/or jump in the UK, giving is giving, and good karma is good karma. I need your help, Action Medical Research need your help. We are all members of the awesome international BASE community, after all. We're family!
Also, please don't think of it in terms of "well I don't NEED a new pilot chute"... the prizes are awesome, but the giving is really its own reward...

Many thanks to those who've contributed so far...

Oh, and don't forget: after a lifetime of hucking ourselves off of things, we might all be glad of an artificial hip or two...

"Over our 50-year history, Action Medical Research has touched the lives of everyone in the UK. Research funded by us has brought about some of the most important medical breakthroughs of the last century, including:

Britain's first polio vaccine
Pioneering hip replacement surgery
The first medical use of ultrasound scanning
Testing the rubella vaccine
The discovery of the role of folic acid in pregnancy in preventing spina bifida
The specialised treatment of burns injuries in children
New treatment for epilepsy
Development of communication aids for severely disabled people
Development of the shapeable "matrix" wheelchair for severely disabled people
The 'Tools for Living' programme
Production of a new diet which helps children with liver disease
Development of a new blood typing technique for babies in the womb
Major advancements in the treatment/knowledge of osteoporosis, nerve repair, hydrocephalus and myasthenia gravis.
There are currently 100 research projects underway thanks to Action Medical Research funding, building on our track record of life-changing medical research. We're committed to continuing our work funding the very best medical research, to keep improving the health and quality of life of everyone."

Cheers,
Mark Amodeo, BASE 539
