I turned up to the airfield last week (sept 20th) and although it was very early (7:30am) me and the people that had come with me were greeted with a very warm welcome, after several hours of waiting for the weather to clear my 2 year old niece was becoming restless and bored, luckily one of the staff members asked us if we wanted to take on to the plane to get some pictures, it kept her entertained and gave us something to do... unfortunately the staff there don¡¦t have control over the weather so we had to rearrange the jump due to fog and a heap of clouds... so fast forward a week and we hit yesterday Sunday 28th...

I¡¦ve never been in a plane before, the highest I¡¦ve ever been is a 100ft so you can imagine how terrified I was.. the staff were still very happy to come and sit with us and have a chat, which helped keep my nerves down... as soon as I got in the plane the fear hit me like brick in the face! But before I had a chance to leg it we were speeding down the runway..

I had a camera woman in front of me and my camera man opposite me, the camera woman really did help me calm down, to say I¡¦ve never been so scared in my life is an understatement (first time in a plane) she kept me focused, talked me though everything and in a sense helped me have a lath.... the view from up there really did take my breath away.. something I¡¦ll never forget!

Just before we hit the 10.000ft mark she talked me though what was about to happen, just like what the guy I was strapped to was doing, she and the my instructor blocked me from being able to see the first jumper leave to help keep my nerves at ease (thank god!) she gave me a quick hand shake then my instructor edged me to the door...

In short although the first couple of seconds were TERRIFYING, and the amount of ¡§choice¡¨ words that left my mouth must have hit the hundreds... once I opened my eyes... I was stunned, I didn¡¦t really feel like I was falling and although I was falling at 130mph I felt incredible!

I already have plans to go back and do it again and really would recommend anyone that hasn¡¦t tried it to just DO IT!
I¡¦m WAS terrified of heights and never even been close to a plane before... I did... that means YOU can too!!!!! ƒº

I'm new to the sport and did my first dive yesterday. I'd done my training the day before but the weather was too awful to jump.
I was told by staff to come back early in the morning as it's first come first served for static line jumpers as they make the real money over the weekend doing tandems. I did what they suggested and they got three other newbies up on the third drop with me as promised.
The atmosphere at the the club is great. Everyone is welcoming. They have a small cafe area for drinks, sandwiches and breakfasts, all very cheap and pretty good quality. It was a family affair with people bringing their dogs and binocuars and sitting in the sun having a laugh or playing footie.

The rule is that you have to do refresher training before every jump and they keep a record. I'd done my 6+ hrs training and test the day before and still got a 20min refresher with another newbie. This settled a lot of nerves as I was confident I'd remember the essentials.
All of the folk their take it in turn to teach, manifest and jump and they seem to enjoy all the aspects which creates a relaxed yet professional feeling.

All kit is scrupulously checked and signed.
You can ask as many questions as you like and no-one will tell you they don't have time or to ask someone else.

I'm going back as soon as possible because it's well priced, the scenery over the sea is good and its a relaxed and professional environment to get my qualifications.

The down side is the hanging around waiting for your jump. However, they warn you in advance that this will happen and to come prepared with a book or to talk to folk which I did. You also get to watch all the tandem folk diving and sseing them come back with their kit which again adds to the atmosphere.

The car park was pretty full yesterday which caused a bit of hassle. However that's because some of the tandem folk had brought 5+ specators.
I think the more advanced divers would struggle because they don't go very high for AFF, but the people who run the club can give you loads of advice on where and how to progress in the sport even if they won't make any money from it, and you can't say fairer than that!

All in all this is a small, friendly, well run and professional drop zone which I would heartily recommend.

I had the pleasure of jumping here last summer, and on the whole it was great. Everyone is very friendly and helpful, and you never find yourself without someone to answer your questions. The only problems I had were the coastal weather (sea frets are common in summer, and high winds too), the lack of local facilities and accomodation for someone without a car, and the aircraft, which at the time I was there was a cessna 206. With the best will in the world, Grindale isn't the busiest dropzone in the country and is not suitable for a newly qualified skydiver who wants to do fifteen jumps in a weekend. Will definitely be going back!

Has that small dz feel but with a mighty turbine porter. Very laid back and welcomes all from first timer to world champ. has no sky gods. But does have first class instructors with a wealth of know how. I have jumped all around the uk/us but will always be drawn back to the people and views.

Hi I'm Mikey, if you where to come to Brid we'd might meet as I pack/jump.So I kinda spend a lot of my spare time at Brid.

I first came to Brid with the 4Para (reservist - Parachute Regiment) as part of a bit of adventure training with 20 of guys all dressed in combats and boots. We spent the day completing our static line training under the supervision of Phil, Del, Chris and Simon screaming our heads off ARCHTHOUSAND!!! etc... and making a the onlookers jump. It was a real fun and entertaining day as the staff, current and former Reg lads all kicked about with the banter and even though we didn't jump that day it was a worth while experience.

Once I realised I wanted to jump and had the bug I turned to the staff and asked how a bloke with not much money could be invovled in the sport and they just said "Learn to pack" so thats what I did. So under the supervison of Olley, Joey and the CCI Ray Armstrong I became a packer. which I do to pay for my jumps which makes the training course I'm doing so much worth while.

I'v learned so much from all the wealth of exsperience at Brid from guys and they really have made me feel welcome.

If you want to get into skydiving, Brid is the place to do it and over the last few months I have gained some much just being apart of what Brid has to give.

I just visited, and I can say that the people there are friendly as hell. It’s more like a club or family atmosphere. The DZO is really nice and helpful. You can see the ocean and coast line and the landing area is huge. You have to be really trying hard to hit an obstacle on landing. (Somehow one guy did find a hedge row to land in.) If I lived there or anywhere in the UK that would definitely be my home DZ. Great place, great people. 9.5 out of 10 the .5 deduction is for the English weather. What are you waiting for… go down there!

I have visited lots of DZ's in the UK and abroad and have to say that Brid is the most welcoming and freindly by far! The facilities are second to none and the clubhouse looks trendy and clean after its refurb. Even though they operate a 206 they do a fantastic job to get jumpers in the air. What stunning views of the coastline its beautiful!! Brid has got the best hire kit i have seen and is going to be the place to be in 2007. rumour has it they are getting a turbine in the near future. What a fantastic job you guys are doing... well done

This is certainly not the first choice DZ if you want very high quality 4/8/big way FS, or quality large FF groups etc. However, it is without doubt the friendliest DZ of some 20+ that I have visited across the world. As I want the former, I tend to stick to large DZs with quality load organising. However, every so ofen, I feel the need to head back for the one thing that ALL big DZs miss - the fantastic friendly atmosphere that you get at Brid.

They make you feel very welcome both in the bar (even if it's not packed to the walls), and bending over backwards to get you in the air, even if it means hosing themselves from the lift.

I used to love the friendly atmosphere at Brid. Since the change of owner I really hate it. Staff/ owners are really, well what can I say!!! I had a very unpleasant experience. No idea what has happened to this place, its now truely terrible. Such a shame.

We arrived on a busy weekend, but were made to feel very welcome, with everyone working super hard packing hire kit etc to get us in the air. The rigs at the centre are very nice and new and there was some demo kit available as well.

Even though there are only small planes that climb slowly you can still get in the jump numbers and a Cessna 182 and Cessna 206 were both operating when we were there. During the ride to altitude there are great views over the coast the surrounding countryside. On most of the loads altitude was 9000ft, but on two loads we got 10500ft. The landing area is huge so ideal for students / those with poor accuracy. The manifesting system was fairly laid back, but it was easy to get on a load while also easy to fill a load. DZ control were always willing to watch people do their CH2 exercises etc even though there was a charity event with 20+ tandems being conducted.

We stayed over and camped, this was a little ad hoc with no actual camping area at the time, but we were shown a bit of flat grass around the side of the centre. The showers are actually hot and well worth the £1 required.

This is a great little DZ and well worth a visit for a few fun jumps.

I did my first jump here way back in 1985 and the warm welcome I got then is still evident today. The buildings are new, the facitities first class and the beer cheap - what more could you ask? The only con (such that it is) is the altitude and aircraft limitations. But I'm sure this will be rectified as soon as Nicky can get his hands on a turbine.
For a true club feel where no one is made to feel an outsider you can't get better than Brid - see you there.
