  1. If it is Tax Evasion and if like many DZ.com'ers claim, bill does not properly maintain his aircraft. Then the bulk of a tax evasion case is pretty easy. If Bill claims that the maintenance was done, he also has to claim that he paid for it to be done. A fraudulent business expense, and write-down on his taxes. That's the ball game right there. Might even be able to tack on felony fraud, and money laundering.

Then there is the whole question of who he payed for what. Since a large proportion of the "contractors" probably don't claim the income, and bill never 1099's them (he might not have to, even for amounts up to 20k/200 payments) then it could very well look like he is making up other expenses as well.

If you've been "working there" it might be a good idea to double check your taxes... I did notice in the report that the department of labor was there as well. If they do bend you over for past taxes I'm sure there is a labor code violation or two they might be interested in details of. Hopefully not to much shit rolls down hill on people.

I kept expecting to see Bill to ride of into the sunset the last few years, but I guess I can't really see him sitting on beach sipping Mai Tai's without puppet strings to pull all day. I guess riding it to the end is the only way for him. I hope we don't see it end this way. As much of a dick as he could be on occasion the sport does in many ways owe him a debt of gratitude.

  2. Was the DZ open today?

An upside airplane in a vineyard and a tandem accident as a result of fraudulent/questionable ratings might have gotten Bill the attention. But I'd bet pretty much anything the FBI isn't there over some maintenance and ratings violation. Criminal statutes... Thinking more along the lines of AL Capone here.

My only question is which country bill's flying an otter full of cash too right now!

  3. What about a BASE container and Belly mount reserve?

Much easier to make a smaller container, cheaper to manufacture as well (no TSO complications). Possibly even snekor style chest mounted toggles w something like a 180 ultralite ZP canopy?

Some Little people have normal size bodies, but short limbs. Some are just all little. I would think the short limbs would make for a very fast faller, and very little control over fall rate and movement...

  4. Entertainment for the ADD generation, quick edits about all the fun to be had jumping off stuff, with and without skis and parachutes. These guys are killing it, latest edit a little Swiss Valley base jumping and the First two Stops of the Freeride World Tour. Second is red bull airforce members Mike Swanson, John Devore and Andy Farrington chasing skiers Timy and JT with speed wings down the steeps of Juneau AK.

    1) There's no 'rules' - it's a guideline, not a rule.

    2) And they are still jumper dependent. If a jumper is exceptional, heads up, has done all the exits, can control their body, have a wide fall rate range etc. they may well be able to start doing camera at 200 jumps. Some people may take longer.

That's how it works now. The only problem is that some jumpers want to start RIGHT NOW and they don't understand the distractions of camera. So they start thinking that the 200 jump rule is the maximum, not the minimum. "Hey, if anyone can jump a camera at 200 jumps, I can start at 100, because I'm not just anyone!"

    >a special attention can be spent to teach the right way. a good example
    >is, why let a guy fly a wingsuit with 200 jumps if he is not good
    >tracking????

Exactly, and that's why the wingsuit guidelines are 200 jumps ONLY if the person is an exceptional tracker, has compatible gear, is very heads up etc. 500 jumps is a better number for your 'average' jumper.

So who has said no to a paying student with 200 jumps that wants to go wingsuiting? Exceptional my ass...

  6. and that readme only covers the USPA, which like other things US related only cover things the lawyers think will make them money. Look at the recomendations of a few other countries... Ive seen as low as 50... Frankly, you have already decide to risk YOUR life by hurling it at the earth at 120mph, the chance that a camera is going to lead to you taking someone else out is small and you should put one on your head whenever you feel like it.

And there is a differnce between "camera flying" and video logging.

Well, since you won't need em anymore, we should have a contest and the winner gets your tickets...........

"Who is willing to jump the worst airplane for a free ticket?"

    Sounds good to me

I'll take em... Just bought 50 carnival ride tickets the other day, could use a few more.

Do they allow the use of base rigs at Lodi? I mean, they obviously don't adhere to other FAA regulations, so I assume it's all fair game?

If so, I'll start the bidding at 1 cent Canadian.

Sure, if you have a TSO'd belly mount reserve, but no pulls below 2000'

.... Any guy who puts profits before the safety of the people who are lining his pockets is a absolute wanker.

regardless of the truth of the situation, I don't think there is much "lining of Bill's pockets" going on. And even if there was, he doesn't have much opportunity to spend it (except to defend stupid lawsuits from kids who cant listen when told not to jump up on exit) seeing as he is there all day every day.

  10. Nope haven't seen it, it's not on YouTube so it didn't happen :D. got a link? I didn't say its not possible or that it will for sure break off. But like i said before, MUCH less involved then being fully kitted out to FILM a skydive. Cant say Ive seen anyone with a ring site (metal arm, bolted to helmet, that just sounds like a dumb idea...) and a gopro. If i did i would be sure to mock them mercilessly!

All that being said, your not gonna see me base jumping with a shark fin on my head, if i ever find myself owning a gopro it'll be on a modified mount. Contradictory? Yeah maybe, Its all about personal decisions right? You can wear one if you want...

  11. While I respect all of you having gone through the history, changes and loss of friends the skydiving has brought throughout the years. Things have changed, get over it. The direct involvement/distractions of jumping with a small format camera on your head have lessened. Not everyone is trying to get the shot, or spending 15 minutes gearing up the camera and cuing tape. Go pros, contours and the like can and regularly are, at least for the people I jump with, set it and forget it video loggers capturing inside video. Also they have made a great evaluation tool for events during our jumps and being able to point out, Hey! Maybe that wasn't so smart, don't do that again or that worked well. Not everyone can set it and forget it, some people will pull late because they were trying to remember if they locked the car when they got to the dz mid jump. Only you and the people you jump with know which one you are. I've jumped with people that have been wearing one since their first solo with no issues and one person with nearly 200 jumps I told I wouldn't jump with again if he brought the camera as he was clearly trying to play videographer instead of group skydiver. Some people shouldn't even wear them for things like skiing, I witnessed a guy so distracted by his camera that he skied straight in to a lift tower!!!

As for snag hazard of course they are, I prefer the HD contour for this reason (to bad it has high speed scanning issues at Freefly speeds...). But I will argue (probably in vain) that the event that occured in australia is EXTREMELY unlikely on a skydive. She was handheld, with very low airspeed and released the PC in a position that just shouldn't happen on a skydive where the jumper pitches in a proper belly to earth position. Had a Skydiver managed to get the bridle stuck on the go pro there is a much greater chance the mount would have sheared depending on how much leverage was exerted (whether it's near the base of it or not...) due to the shear forces involved with a terminal deployment. Apples to oranges, remember Base Jumping is not Skydiving...
