Nice! I did my first bit of back flying last week. Tried some backflying with turns first jump. Barely got the sit up second jump. Sat it fully up on the third try (slight turn). It is really exciting having a different landscape of freefall while free flying. I don't have an audible yet, but am very altitude aware. Went from 120mph (belly to earth) to 153mph (sit). WOOT!

    Cheers,

    Stearny

I would suggest get one ASAP. You can lose altitude awareness very quickly , and that is all it takes to go low fast. [:/]

Sorry, but I don't believe any of the "big" numbers. Most of these jumpers are not logging jumps and at Perris and Spaceland I have seen the "totals" jump by several thousand a year from big time jumpers who no longer jump all that much.

Maybe you didnt see the drug trafficking jumps at midnight... Does nobody watch Cutaway anymore ;)

The GoPro also has a wider angle, thus you get more on video. At least it did when I bought my GoPro, not sure how things are now with the newer models of the Contour.

CoutourHD 1080p has multiple options for resolution, frame rate, and field of view.

The one I use 99% of the time is 1280x720, 60 fps, 135 degree field of view.
    Its plenty wide.

Let's take a more reasonable analogy. Take two guys who have never flown any camera before and have no training on it.

First guy wants to do 4-way video. He talks to a local video flyer who gives him some pointers and helps him set up his helmet. He says "jump with that team over there; they're good and they will give you something stable to film." He prepares for the jump, makes a plan and intends to follow it.

Second guy wants to improve his sitfly. He's just learning sitflying, and he decides to add a camera but not change any other part of his skydive. He's just going to "turn it on and forget about it."

In that case, yes, the second jumper is the more dangerous of the two - because he is doing something that he is unprepared for. In fact he has made the decision that he will NOT be prepared for it.

In other words... jumper 2 is a moron who did no homework and jumper 1 got some quick education.

It's still just another analogy. There's no reason why jumper 2 can't be as safe as jumper 1. It's all about the individual and the steps they take to educate themselves in becoming a more aware jumper.

Taken the right steps, camera flier 2 can be just as safe as flier 1 and vice versa.

Personally I would feel more comfortable doing what jumper 2 does - with the added briefings etc for camera.

I would just want to jump straight into 4 way filming.

I was taught you're dead the moment you leave the aircraft if you don't pull your handles as you should.
I was also taught you're always jumping your reserve, the main is just for entertainment.

That is a highly negative view imho.

I am alive when I leave the plane and I plan to stay that way until im on the ground , and should I lose consciousness or be unable to pull my handle , I will rely on my aad (as a backup) .
