Not sure what black president has to do with any of it.

I think A LOT of people, especially in the black community, thought that race relations would improve with a black president. However, it seems that things have only gotten worse, or at least that seems to be the general perspective.

We seem to be heading in a more divisive direction than a unifying one... [:/]

  2. With 200+ jumps you have enough experience to make an educated decision. If you feel comfortable stepping down to the 135 on a canopy that's not too aggressive for you, then that might be a reasonable move.

You've taken some canopy courses and sought out the advice of your instructors, riggers, etc...

Sounds like you're taking the right steps toward making a good decision. You're first mistake was asking the opinion here. While you can get some good advice on dz.com, unfortunately there are a lot of posters here that want to post the same drivel over and over and they think it applies to everyone. They also like to do this on virtually any/every post about downsizing, not always because it's in the best interest of the poster, but because they like the controversy.

Be smart, plan ahead, think fast, do your research, listen to your gut, don't progress too fast, don't panic, know your mals.... and so on.

It's not that difficult to downsize in a safe manner.

Is it droppable? I really need to trade mine in since I've dropped it one to many times and have a very cracked screen. I don't want much, I just want them to make one that is bomb proof because that's basically what I would need.

I don't think I've ever met anyone that DOESN'T have a cracked or busted iPhone. Good luck!

  4. Sure "the BEST" is a relative term, but it could be gauged by demand.

When someone has the means to buy 'the best' regardless of price they usually buy the best. Look at Fazza Sky for example, they are arguably comprised of some of the best jumpers the sport has to offer and they have 'unlimited funds', they have chosen to go with UPT Vector as their container of choice.... take from it what you will, but it says something.

Some might also say that with their inovations such as the skyhook that UPT is ahead of the rest.

Anyway, no one is going to win any brand debate here so it really just comes down to personal preference..... and personal preference leads to 40 week lead times. :o:P

Once you use a Mac you'll never go back.

    I'm living proof that's a lie :)

Overall, ease of operation and reliability matched with the best quality, hands down MacBookPro beats any PC out there.

Again, I disagree. The quality of the Macbook Pro isn't any better than any PC I've owned. Sure it's prettier, by far, but as far as reliability and issues, I've had far more on my Macbook Pro than any PC I've owned. Overheating, USB flakey when the unit is hot and, pound for pound twice the price for the same components I could get on a PC. For the $2500 I payed for this, I could have a MONSTER of a machine.

IMO there are only 2 REALLY good things about the Macs:
    1) The trackpad is simply amazing.
    2) Battery life is better than any PC I've owned.

Otherwise, I'm sorry - it's an overpriced "trendy" computer I'll not buy again.

I've had the exact same experience.

    I agree Positives for Apple:
-the track pad is actually great
-the battery life on my iPad and MacBookPro are very good
    -sleek look

    Negatives for Apple:
    -way over priced
-I actually don't find the file, document, program organization as practical
-File sharing can also be a problem with Mac users that don't use or convert to Word format which is undoubtedly the most used in the professional/business world.

-recent problems with Mac: We just set up a new printer in the office. With the PCs we were able to download the drivers and software and easily got them connected via wifi. With the Mac we were first prompted/required to do a system update. We then had to go through many more installation steps than the PCs to get it working properly through wifi.

Another recent problem. We use a secure web-based platform to do some of our billing and accounting. With the PCs it was simple connection. With the Macs we are still trouble shooting it and the problem is yet to be resolved.

I could go on and on regarding issues that we experience with the Macs vs PCs.

We currently have an iMac, MacBookPro, and iPad in addition to our PCs.

I can scroll to the left and see current/ real-time news updates right on the home screen, no app needed.

Wow, so on a Samsung I can make a swiping motion to get that info, where on my iPhone I have to make a tapping motion?

    Truly revolutionary.

Live/interactive home screens are actually quite convenient, quicker and nice to be able to customize however you like. Maybe it's not for you, that's fine.

To all the weather app haters.... I guess I'm the weird one for wanting to know what the temperature is outside first thing in the morning, the Hi's/Lows, and chances of precipitation to know how to prepare for the day before I even get out of bed, all with one glance of my home screen. But, I understand that by getting up, getting dressed, going downstairs, and going outside I'll get a sense of the current temperature, and then I just have to tune into the news to get the rest of the forecast for the day.... yeah that sounds just as convenient. :P

  7. I love my S2... I was about to upgrade to the S3 but now will plan on the S4.

Androids multiple, customizable home screens make things so much more quick, easy, and manageable. For example I can scroll one one screen to the right and instantly see my auto-updated schedule for the next few days and edit it right there, rather than going to my apps, and opening an app. I can see the current weather conditions for my location right on my home screen without having to do a thing and it automatically changes depending on gps location. I can scroll to the left and see current/ real-time news updates right on the home screen, no app needed.

I could go on and on.... but you already know that...;)

Are you using Swype yet? If not start ASAP... you will catch on quick. It feels primitive to me now when I have to type each letter into to my iPad at work, it takes twice as long to write a msg.

ETA: I tried to find a swype app for my iPad but they don't have the appropriate technology to support it yet. There are a couple knockoff apps but they are crap and not even close to true Swype.

If want ease of use, simple, less hassle and a good looking device take an Apple for a test ride.........

You are right from that standpoint.... if simple and pretty is what you're looking for then stick with apple.

  9. I believe they are pretty cost comparable. If you are going to be switching to a new carrier you should be able to take advantage of significant deals on a new phone with the signing of a new contract. I highly recommend a Samsung Galaxy s2 or newer, the power behind these devices are amazing.

  10. http://www.forbes.com/sites/haydnshaughnessy/2013/03/18/how-good-is-the-samsung-galaxy-s4-try-amazing/

With the introduction of the new Samsung S4, Apple is just even further behind the technology times.

The iphone and iPad OS simply cannot contend with all of the additional features that the Android platform offers, with countless interactive widgets, shortcuts, auto-updating / fully customizable home screens, Swype texting and so much more.

Android and Samsung have surpassed apple overseas but many Americans are still blinded by the trendiness/hipness of the apple brand to realize they have an inferior product.

  11. [replyI was thankful once I did start jumping camera around 300 skydives when I realized how complicated it is and how much it adds to the skydive.

What do you find about jumping with a camera that is so complicated?

its pretty funny/scary to see people who are so distracted by turning their gopro on that they dont realize their gear is set up wrong. then you have the people who do their gear checks, know the plan for the skydive and have to turn their camera on in freefall because they totally forgot they were jumping a camera. when you get to that point its a fair bet youre not distracted by the camera. ;)

To the OP, consider getting a more user friendly camera like a Contour. They are easy to turn on and switch to 'Record' mode without any second-guessing. Where as with the GoPro you have to ask someone to verify that it's actually on and recording.

The Contour has a laser pointer that shows you that the camera is turned on and your sight angle. The record switch is big and easy to use, pushing it forward you know it is in the record position.

@ those who are supporting the McNasty:

Well, how the heck are balloons & balloon companies supposed to operate?

Sometimes a ground crew can get out ahead and find the appropriate house to inquire about a particular field to land in... but I would guess that doesn't happen often.

Fundamentally there has to be some agreement whether all balloonists are evil and the practice of ballooning must be stopped, if they operate anywhere where there is private property, or whether it is "normal" for balloons to land on private property -- where they can do it as long as they pay for any minor damage caused.

Indeed, same goes for glider pilots, or *gasp* skydivers. What is a tolerable off-landing rate? No more than one jumper on a given person's private property per year, or else the DZ should be shut down? Otherwise someone is trying to make a profit off someone else's private property, because the DZ is too cheap to buy all the land within a mile of the airport.

I'm not advocating any particular answer. Just saying that generally, ballooning has been tolerated as an aerial activity, and they do need to land on others' property. If so, a landowner is allowed to be a little upset, but can't be able to dictate safety-of-flight issues.

Just finished the first page of this ridiculous flame fest.... thank goodness some reasonableness.

To the OP, I see this as a 'heads-up' for anyone doing a balloon ride or off site jump in the Perris area. While the land owner does have the right to be upset, he is seemingly being somewhat unreasonable.

One would hope that these events can continue with courtesy and understanding between all parties involved. Apologies and compensation should always be offered to any land owner if damages or inconvenience is occurred. Otherwise no need for anyone to be an asshole and everyone is happy.

  • I'm by no means a 'safety freak' but NO helmet on a Mr Bill?????????????? Heard of people falling off on opening and hitting their head on the persons knee, foot, etc... Just seems stupid on a jump that involves a higher chance of injury than most any others.

Otherwise cool vid! Always nice to see a successful Mr Bill.

  • I started rerouting my bridle as recomended by UPT awhile back, so there should be no plausible way for a bridle piercing.

Looking to add the link for the routing info, haven't found it yet.... if anyone else can beat me to it.

ETA: only down side I can see to the different routing method is that you can't visualize the pc 'cocking indicator' without pulling out the bridle from its packed position.

  • In an email today.

"Watch Out for a Pilot Chute-In-Tow Malfunction!
USPA recently learned of another reported pilot-chute-in-tow malfunction that occurred when a main closing pin pierced the pilot chute bridle and locked the main container closed. Luckily, the reserve canopy deployed successfully, and the jumper was able to land safely, even though the bridle had entangled with the reserve risers.

This makes a total of six known cases of this type of malfunction. USPA first learned of this issue in 2009 and again in 2010 and each time asked the Parachute Industry Association and the container manufacturers to look into bridle designs for possible changes (see “Keep an Eye Out” in the November 2009 and November 2010 issues of Parachutist). Careful routing of the bridle can help to lower the chances of this type of malfunction, although in the latest case, the jumper was sure she had routed the bridle in such a way that the pin should not have been able to pierce the bridle. Several different container models have experienced this malfunction, so the issue is not just with one type of container."

And he didn't have to use a multi-million dollar ramp or go to vegas to do it.

It's nice to see someone do it instead of talk about it for 5 years.

Congrats dude. You win the grande cajones award!!
