  1. Hi all, I'm having a really hard time finding a skydive gear shop. I live in Mundelein, IL. So about 45min north of Chicago. If there's anyone around this area can you tell me the shop that you go to, and how far it is? Thanks a bunch.
  2. Hi all, I'm really liking the two helmets offered by Bonehead, the Mamba and Havok. I really like them because of there full face shield design due to the upcoming winter season here in Chicago land, the less skin exposed to the freezing air the better! Has anyone ever had a chance to try on both? your opinion would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!
  3. My parents had friends who were skydivers and they said that that's where everyone from our area (Mundelein, IL) went, so that's where I went. Plus the staff are really nice, and my classroom, coincidentally, was done one on one so that was really cool. Also, I don't know what they have at Hinckley, but on week days East Troy runs a cessna, and on the weekends they run a PAC, I haven't had a run in the PAC, due to me jumping on weekdays only, but I hear it's really nice and fast.
  4. Yeah, I leaned my lesson by not doing a PLF, my entire body is so sore right now from the fall, and I think I might have done something to two of my fingers. all I can say is that I learned alot on my first solo, and I guess all I can do is just try and use what I learned next time.
  5. Hi all, Today I went for my first AFF dive, and my landing was a mess. I landed short of the LZ by about 200 yards, simply because while in the air I couldn't find it!!! As I reflect on the dive I know that there are things that I didn't do and if I had done them I probably would have had a better dive, but I still have a problem finding it. Even when I did my two tandem jumps, my instructor said, "there's the LZ" and I simply couldn't find it. Also, my actual landing was a mess, I went in at half brakes, was going to fast, flaired for a second, but realized I was too high, then went back to half brakes, my ankle is still swolen from the jarring fall... If anyone has any tips or advice i would love to hear them! Thanks all!!!
  6. hmmm... good idea, I think I'm gunna wait until I'm done with getting my license before I start looking at gear though... I have to admit that I can't wait to own my own rig. financing may be an issue though, you guys ever see the APR for an 18 year old college student, and has a job which is seasonal and pays only $8.50 and hr...? lol, I'll figure it out some how though, thanks for the advice!
  7. Skydiver Information Manual (SIM) http://www.uspa.org/SIM.aspx I tried going to the USPA web site and it's not working, I don't know if the site is down or my internet isn't working. but does anyone know of an alternative site where I can download it?
  8. Hey, I'm just starting my course at Sky Knights, East Troy, (second jump this Tues ), do they let students continue on during the winter???
  9. Hi all, I'm new to the sport, (1 dive, lol), I am an extremely long way away from this step in the skydiving gig, but just out of curiosity. If I wanted some gear that was time tested and considered THE most reliable, what should I get, I'm not talking fancy high performance type stuff, and probably not new products, but solid IT WORKS type of stuff. What brands are viewed by the community as quality, what is the price tag for it? Why is it quality? Buying my own gear is probably years down the line for me, (I at least need my license first lol), but maybe someone else on here is at this step and this might help them out a bit. Thanks all!
