  1. UPDATE! Skydive Suffolk is hosting its second annual Spring Fling Boogie on April 23-25, 2010. Come on out and make some jumps! We'll have two -- count 'em -- two PACs flying, so it will be fastfastfast to altitude. Here's the rundown: * $20 registration fee - CASH ONLY * $23 jump tickets (cash or credit, no out of state checks) * Belly organizer: Chris Wagner * Freefly organizer: TBA * Daily 50/50 cash raffle plus a regular raffle for a variety of prizes Food, entertainment, and BEER will also be happening. Rumor has it that our very own Safety Dave will be making some special homebrew just for the boogie! What else is going on? We're also going to attempt to blow the Virginia state head down record out of the water. If you think you've got the skills and want to be in on it, contact David Pendzick (DAVE619). You're welcome to bring a tent and camp out under the stars. What better way to start the day than rolling out of your sleeping bag and hopping on the first load? See you at the boogie! A tree does not have to be beautiful to bear fruit.
  2. Hey kids, a couple more updates for ya. We've got a band for Saturday night entertainment: Honeycomb Hydeout will be playing for us! Fresh off their tour supporting Ronnie James Dio, Honeycomb Hydeout is now setting their sights on conquering every camel toe and moose knuckle in Portsmouth and beyond -- come rock with them after a day of jumping! Also, we'll be having sunset swoop 'n' chug contests with beer prizes! That's right, drink beer to win beer. (Accuracy helps, too.) Don't miss out... A tree does not have to be beautiful to bear fruit.
  3. An update on some of our boogie participants: Belly organizer: Chris Wagner Freefly organizer: Simon Palacio Reps from: Flight Concepts PD Icarus Aerodyne Sun Path Mirage Come on out and shake off those winter blues! A tree does not have to be beautiful to bear fruit.
  4. Yes, you read correctly: Suffolk IS having a boogie! We'll be flying our very own PAC along with a CASA. Belly and freefly organizing are on the board, along with spaceball jumps, Skyhook demos, vendors, on site food, and more. Registration will be $20. There's plenty of room to pitch tents at the DZ, as well as nearby campgrounds and hotels. There will definitely be updates, so check back to see what's been added. Don't forget to mark your calendars: April 17-19, 2009 Skydive Suffolk Suffolk, VA Be there! Have fun! A tree does not have to be beautiful to bear fruit.
  5. Before I started buying gear, I tried on a number of helmets to see what would suit me best. I didn't like any of the full face helmets (with the visor in) because I felt trapped and my field of vision was restricted. The Factory Diver was the only full face I tried that offered a great peripheral view. I recently bought a used Factory Diver, as winter is coming and even with the visor removed it's a lot warmer than my Bonehead. The inside audible pocket is a nice feature, too -- no duct tape required! One day, I may be able to convince myself to jump with the visor installed, but I would still have the concern about it fogging up and not being able to fix the problem without removing the helmet entirely. So Sky Systems, are there any designs in the works for a flip-face Factory Diver? If so, I'm sold.
  6. After having to put up with ill-fitting student/borrowed jumpsuits, I was thrilled to finally get my own. Before I ordered my suit, I called to ask about fabric colors and types and all my questions were answered satisfactorily. When I called near the end of the suit's estimated delivery time, I was given a status report and it arrived within said time window (8-10 weeks with a single rush). All I have to say is that the suit fits great and flies wonderfully -- well worth the wait! The construction is solid and hopefully the suit will last me for many jumps to come. I would gladly do business with Bev Suits again.
  7. I thought I would get a freefly suit from Kurupee because they offered decent prices on basic suits. (I'm an entry level freeflyer and wasn't looking to break the bank.) Ordering the suit was easy enough, though I was somewhat disappointed by their limited fabric color selection. I figured I'd check up on the process after the suggested 4 week wait time. Like many other people, I had no luck actually contacting anyone associated with Kurupee. I tried their website tracking program: didn't work. Tried their website email: didn't work. Tried the USA contact phone number provided: didn't work. I finally got in touch with someone at the payment processing site and within 48 hours I was told the suit was being shipped. It took about a week from that point for my suit to arrive (not quite 6 weeks from order placement), and I have no complaints about the construction or fit. However, even if there were monumental improvements in customer service, I would hesitate to buy from Kurupee again.
