Anyone else think that the lense shown in the Prod=155 link looks an awful lot like the .3 Babydeath lense? what are the chances it is a rebranded babydeath lense? I'm seriously considering dropping the $100 to find out.

Thats kinda what I was thinking myself. Be awesome to risk the 100 and find out its basically the same but would suck to get stuck with a 100$ piece of crap. Does anyone have any experience with this brand?

  2. Hey all, just wanted to get some quick input before I purchase yet another lens. Im looking at getting the raynox 3032 but have some slight hesitations due to it sticking out so much. I dont really want to drop $300 buck on the century 0.3 baby death either. Has anyone tried these lenses (opteka)? Im assuming that they are probably just crap or at least no better than waycool or royal lenses. I have an HC5 top mounted and I need some thing very wide for close flying head down 2-3 ways.

  3. Please don't flame cause I have done a crap load of searching and I am so confused. Does anyone have a recommendation on the best options for an HC5 lens for shooting in highest quality. I got this camera for personal use and I plan to shoot everything in the highest quality and don't want to limit myself by using a sub par wide angle lens. I have read alot of comments on here and a lot of the discussions are geared towards sd quality video.

  4. Hey all, just hoping to get lucky here. I belive I forgot my helmet (silver aviator with dings) alti track altimeter, optima audible and a pair of clear goggles. I did not realize until today which was 2 weeks later and when I went back I wasnt able to locate any of my stuff. If in the very slim chance any one who reads this happens to have passed through cross keys in the past couple of weeks and happened to see any of this sitting around please let me know. Thanks

  5. looks good petri. I like the setup. I will probably do something similar. Looks like I'm waiting till next season to get a camera but I will most definitely be picking up a factory diver soon, and now I feel comfortable that I will be able to turn it into a camera helmet if I still desire to do so. thanks all for the info.

  6. All, I need to know what the final verdict was on the CX7. I have done the searches and I have read all posted forums on the camera here at dropzone and I still don't feel like I have a clear cut answer on the reliability of the CX7 for sit fly and head down. I have found the camera at a major retailer for $600 and I could probably talk them down 20-40 or so which I feel is a ridiculous deal (camera discontinued). So I need to know if I will be very unhappy with the camera. I actually wont be using this camera until late this season or next season due to my current low jump numbers but this deal is rather sweet. I also based off of some ebay research feel that I will not find a similar type of deal on an equivalent camera at this price in a year when I will start camera jumping. Am I being completely ridiculous buying this camera now for primary use (skydiving) coming in a yearish (will use other wise until then)?

  7. I am thinking that I would like to get a full face but I would also like to some day use what ever new helmet I get for camera as well. I really like the idea of full face in general and I like the fit of the factory diver. I might just get one and just hope that mounting an HC series to it works ok when I try this winter or next season.

Am I insane to start jumping with a camcorder soon? I'm currently around 130 jumps and I am looking into getting a HC 5 and top mount it to a smooth contoured helmet. I would be closer to 160 by the time I have every thing purchased and ready to go. I don't plan to use a sight. I just want something to record my jumps for now and I don't really care whats in frame at any given moment.

    Optima and altitrack.

The optima has a variable sound pitch to allow you to adjust the sound to your preference, landing pattern alarms for accurate landings and it can have a LED attachment for later on when you might do camera jumps(of if you go deaf).

The altirack logs jumps, is easy to read and you can use polarised sunglases when using them. I am not a fan of digital readout altis. The reason I don't like them is; to differentiate between 5900' and 5100' takes slightly longer than a quick glance at a needle.

but that is just my opinion.

I agree, I have the same configuration and the altirack is awesome and the optima works perfectly.

  10. Well I can definitely say it hasn't died off at my dz. Cross keys has some awesome free flyer's and I have recently switched to free fly just because all of my friends did and I ran out of people to play with up there. Also it is so much fun so I'm not complaining. Its great I have plenty of people to jump with and when I want some top notch training there is plenty to go around.

  11. Unfortunately I don't have picks of my new pilot but I love my colors. Mostly red and black with a bit of white. It was one of aerodyne's stock color patterns (fire something) but it looks great and is very easy to see from miles away or above. ;)

  12. Hey all

I was recently looking at free fly pants and suits to buy and then I remembered that I have a pair of mesh summer motorcycle pants that fit much like a free fly pant would so screw spending another $150 (thats like 6 jumps f that). Has any one tried this. Its just a tad bit more bulky than free fly pants (not much) but is well ventilated because of the mesh. My main question would be has anyone else tried this? If so what did it do to your fall rate? My background in aerodynamics makes me think that the mesh will cause a turbulent boundary layer (like a golf ball) which could cause either a reduced or increased drag coefficient. I'm obviously going to try it asap regardless but any input would be greatly appreciated!:)

  13. Just my 2 cents but I preferred the pilot and I currently own a 168. I love the way it opens, the glide is very nice, I really like the recovery. Yes it probably wont swoop like most canopies but the very quick recovery makes it much more forgiving in my opinion. It just seems much more responsive to all inputs. Flare is alot different than the sabre 2 though. The landings are great but took a little while to get used to after jumping sabre 2's.

To give the situation some context I will explain what happened. I purchased a used f-111 canopy which was manufactured in 2002 and is in very good physical appearance. I jumped it 4 times the first three times the canopy opened slightly hard but about what I would expect from an f-111 canopy ( I have no experience with f-111, basing my observations on what I have heard).

Based on what you're describing here, and stated lack of experience, I'm going to submit that it may be packing error (?). Were you rolling the nose and fully quartering the slider?

but do I sell this canopy?

Sure. If you state the canopy type, material, condition and sell it for whatever the market will bear. No issue.

I know that a disclaimer would put more of the responsibility on the purchaser but I would still feel bad.

There is already a disclaimer on the data plate. ;)

Yep it probably was packing error I packed several openings on this canopy that were acceptable openings and then the hard opening was some one else packing.

Chances are it's not the canopy design that caused the slammer. More likley causes are poor packing, poor body position (dumping in a track or hard arch), mismatched canopy and container size, line dump due to loose stows, oversized pilot chute, plain bad luck, or a combination of several of the above. Very occasionally, and individual canopy of a normally excellent design will also be a repeat slammer for no apparent reason.

I have seen nearly every canopy design slam the hell out of somebody. I've seen a jedei open so hard it broke the sight off a camera helmet. I've seen a single Diablo blow up 3 times in 2 years. I've seen a Sabre2 cause whiplash, and another one break a riser. There was an old-school sabre that opened so hard it killed somebody a few years ago. Canopies of every design have left massive inner thigh bruising on people. it happens.

I wouldn't hesitate to sell.... on the other hand, I'd not hesitate to continue jumping it either, though I'd ensure the canopy/bag/container are compatable, possibly get a smaller PC, and ensure good, tight linestows. And NEVER dump in a track... my only two insanely brutal openings were a direct result of dumping in a track.

I agree it could have been any of the above reasons I am by no means bashing the canopy design or the manufacturer. My reason for posting this was due to the fact that I decided not to keep jumping it and thus was not able to nail down the root cause of the hard opening. I received my tax return and was then able to by a new canopy which I was not previously able to.
