Hey Hey! No worries, I figured that was the case. No real [apparent] rush though, the issue has been figured out. Someone new messaged me a bit before a mod removed a post that was made; an Extremely Knowledgeable Individual. I'll fill you in when you start replying; however, it appears the only current info needed, unless you know something he doesn't, is for you to confirm the exact size of the ISO. To insure it is not incomplete; from a download issue. But all signs indicate it is complete, and I did burn the DVD properly. As discussed, you stated you have actually used it, so size and your input would confirm what he made me aware of with this current issue.

Does anyone have an email address for RMK? I don't understand why this ISO is not functioning as it should. I was able to get to the advanced options menu, but F8 after booting from DVD does not give "repair your computer" option. Nor do all the screens from the initial link about a repair install in the first posts match. So I'm again without the main tool it appears… unless I can get some answers about this ISO.

Well... sigh ...this sure has been an "interesting" learning experience. So I'm back from out of town, to where my laptop is. Was about 30 hours away and got stuck there for 2 months; did not have the ability to bring it with me. I now have the main tool that I did not have before; and thank you again for the ISO; provider above. A few days ago I worked on this, hoping I would quickly know the outcome. Unfortunately, I do not... and I'm a bit lost. It appears I burned the disk(s) properly, it is recognized as a Win 7 disk. From memory, I changed the boot order to DVD (F2), and it started as expected, began loading temp files, but then the screens were not what I had seen / researched previously. I thought it would bring me to the screen with english and keyboard (2m02s below) and then the next screen would have the "repair your computer" link (versus previously F8), bringing me to the recovery menu. However, it first listed all Win 7 versions and said to pick (so, wondering first if this an ISO for all 64x versions, not just home premium? - No response yet from provider.) When I clicked next, it couldn't see any drives... there was nothing I could see to do to advance. So I backed out, didn't "hit any key to boot to dvd", and it booted as normal with all the same issues I noted in the thread (at the end; after initial boot fixes - still functioning in the same capacity, stable, but unable to use 90% of applications). I then was trying to figure out how to run SFC from the disk, but I'm lost. I WAS doing "offline" from Win DIR (video below), but that repair partition is corrupt too; fixed some but not all system file errors. I then accidentally double clicked the dvd drive, instead of opening/exploring it (was going to look for the actual folder with all the system files (previous resource stated it could be copied to the computer from a win 7 disk and simply replaced prior to running SFC) and try to run SFC off it). It however then copied temp files (like DVD boot, but still able to see/access the desktop) and began to run the installation. I saw all the same stuff, same first screen, but now all partitions did show up. Looking at this link, that does now correlate with #2 (but not with the screens; the picking of windows version or a partition), but I am worried about the #3 part; "don't install now"; because the screens are not the same. http://www.techsupportalert.com/content/how-repair-windows-7-system-installation-disc.htm Start up repair never found anything, but SFC fixed some but not all... So, I'm lost. Booting from the dvd did not give me the chance to hit F8 for the recovery menu; as I got previously with a normal boot into F8... it goes to the list of OS types. What am I missing? What am I doing wrong? Do I need to boot from the DVD, or can I simply run it as I accidentally did above within a normal windows boot? Haven't been able to do more until now, but I'll be working on this all night; wrapped up some things, so this is now my main priority. Any help would be greatly appreciated!! . . .

Does anyone have a Windows 7 product code? Anybody got old software sitting around with a product code on it? Debating calling up Dell and complaining, (they should make that clearly known and understood why it is necessary to do immediately upon opening the box) and seeing if they have a product code/licensing code that I can put in.

It's not deadwood… It's not, not working… It's malfunctioning, and the singular main tool to fix it, I don't have. And from reading what Coreeece just wrote, it looks like this will be taking even longer. It was not possible for me to bring the laptop with me, therefore I can neither currently look on the bottom of the laptop, nor inside the battery area. So if I don't have the product number, I can't make the download from where I am and make the disk/USB drive. I thought I had the product code, but also thought I wouldn't need the product code until the files were downloaded and attempted to be used.

Yes, I did find that after not be able to figure out the download. The problem however, now, is that what appeared to be the product code on the back of the Dell drivers and utilities CD, does not match up with the requested product code formatting on that page.

Read what I wrote about the download site. Are you seeing the same thing? At the moment I don't have something to download.

Through what means would you provide the link? Dropbox?

Update: So currently, I not only have access to the Mac laptop previously discussed, but also an HP laptop, much older than mine, but functioning and with XP. The owner unfortunately is not using the administrator account, and has forgotten that password. I've done some reading on how to get around this, but not totally sure if that would prevent the making of the disk or USB drive I need. (Would be nice to get around it regardless for future reference.) Though I'll probably make both, before being able to make either, I've checked out the link closer from above. The product code on the dell drivers and utilities disk, I would assume is my Windows 7 operating system product code. I don't see how I'm proceeding to download the file? Am I using that product code on the website itself? To get access to the image? If you click on I don't know my product code, it just asks for your email address.

Is this DZ related or culture? Not finding a reference… Otherwise I might find it funny.

Thank you, read over this quickly, yes F8 does work, and I'll look into all of this ASAP. Whether DVD or USB, I'm still trying to find/get an answer on if a mac can be used to create these things. If it can't, I need to investigate if I can order a W7 disk from Dell. Since they only sent me the drivers and utilities disk. One additional note… Upon start up, sometimes prior to the windows icon, it will show my memory and my drives. It just did that recently, and the SSD is labeled as "cache disk". I haven't tried to access it in with F8 yet, but I did from the administrator command prompt, after finding a way to have my drives listed, and just using the drive lettering, like typing in "C:", and it said access denied. I don't know if that is only because I was in windows with in a command prompt versus F8. Does that help (elaborate) at all?

Well, Walmart did not have any single or small quantity DVDs. Even so, I don't really have time because I have to do a whole slew of driving here shortly. Actually supposed to be on the road 2 days ago or so. One stop will be home where I have a large quantity of DVDs; + and - and DL. One "development", question: i have not been able to download anything, whatsoever. Not even random pictures off of Facebook. There's been no changes, no hard drive issues, and I can copy and paste files to other areas (notepad, pictures), without issue. As I said, chrome works, but it does crash periodically when watching videos; YT, FB, News and so on. Seems to me this is more a chrome issue, than HDD, yes? So that my computer may be stable enough to function, I might not be able to download the image, though I wonder if a direct download as offered above would be possible instead?

Coo, thanks. I don't have any new USB or DVDs with me, but I've tested the DVD drive, so I'll probably just see if I can pick up one or two discs ASAP. Just gotta head back up in the thread and figure out what to download. At least I know for sure what version I have now.

Haven't been able to look into it any further, past "recovery". In the middle of some stuff, but as soon as I finish I will. Unless someone else chimes in in the affirmative of this being more than a boot drive.

I remembered correctly: under disk defragmenter, along with "OS (C:)", below it that drive is listed as "recovery". Any chance this is helpful to me?

Ok, Ill look back. Thank you. I can assure you, 100%, that is not the case. If I wanted a new computer I would've already resorted to Billy's measure.

Oh yes, I sure will make sure to do so in the future! Hm, interesting. In addition to C: ... I have a solid-state drive, and was told it was for "quicker booting". Given your partition statement, any chance that this could be both for quicker booting and possible recovery aspects? Could I run SFC and pointed towards the solid-state drive? Just an unresearched quick thought because of your statement.

And the last desktop computer, was a gateway, with XP. I know I had an XP installation disk, and I still have that disk. Not with me currently; though not technically helpful as it is.

Unless I am mistaken, all links within this thread, have been for Windows 7 images, (to which you "have a legal right to"), that can repair windows, but not provide a full installation. However, I will not, under any circumstance, initually, be getting a new hard drive if this hard drive is failing. It would be far more complicated and difficult for me to replace the hard drive, then to order a new system. Period.

I only was sent a dell "drivers and utilities" disc. Upon further research on Dell's website, they do not call it a Windows 7 disc, they call it what you wrote. And I was not sent that. 100% sure. I have all other documentation and disks that were sent with me.

Thank you. I'll definitely check this out. "if"... My hard drive is deteriorating. But yes. Thankfully if the hard drive went up in flames right now, I have all my data backed up. It would just piss me off and waste time and money. That as well. As stated earlier. If this is not fixable, my easiest solution, most timely solution, would be getting a new system, and then later getting a new hard drive, and using this machine as a tinkering tool. With all of this nonsense, I'd like to learn a lot more, and have the ability to mess things up and not be worried about my computer.
