    Colorado Skysports - Boulder
  1. The Colorado Skysports flag that Base935 is referring to is made of F111 type fabric, 2150 sq. ft. and weighs about 80 lbs (including weight and bag). We try to keep the total system wingloading in the 1.2 to 1.3 range. We used a tandem rig at first but found we had very little penetration and the tail of the flag didn't fly straight out that well. The girl in the linked picture from BASE935's post is using a Spectre 190.
  2. Hi Jenn! The whole Brush gang will be celebrating Thanksgiving together, and doing a few fun jumps at a private location. I'll PM you the details. Good to hear from you.
  3. Derek, Sorry to dissappoint you, but no, it doesn't. I hope you have a wonderful Thanksgiving.
  4. No, you need to get over the fact that you are not the legal scholar you think you are. For the last time, the airport is owned by the city but lies in the county, the city has no legislative jurisdiction over the airport. All of the involved parties in this issue agree on that, leaving you as the only one who is having comprehension problems. Yes the lease is with the city, and we are 5 years into its 20 year term. Here in Colorado if you have a lease with someone you are bound by its terms, even if you change your mind later. I know Kalifornia is different, so that may be part of your confusion, but out here being a Municipality doesn't give you the right to side-step due process. Oh, and the community and all but one neigbor are extremely supportive of us. We have one farmer McNasty and the story of why he has it in for us is an interesting one, you may even know some of the key players personally. Shooting, drinking and fires were never an issue in the past, they weren't the reason we were kicked off the airport. They have only become an issue now that the City has conveniently "forgotten" why they kicked us off in the first place. But thats a whole other story as well and it has nothing to do with the people currently connected to the DZ. Why? I see your profile all filled out, but it doesn't make you seem any smarter, or add credibility to your knowledge of the law.
  5. Its called "municipal" because it is owned by the city. The airport is not in city limits. Only the county can pass ordances concerning the airport. There is absolutely NO QUESTION WHATSOEVER on whether or not shooting, drinking, and open fires are legal on the airport. They are now and always have been completely legal. The police have responded to dozens and dozens of complaints from ONE PERSON and have never charged anyone with any crime because we are not breaking any laws. I don't know why so many people, skydivers no less, always assume we are wrong without even knowing the facts. The only limitation in our lease that differentiates it from any other property lease is the stipulation that the runway, ramp, and parking lot remain open to public general aviation users. If the county passes laws restricting certain activites on the airport it will be a sad day for us all. This is supposed to be America. You know.... life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness? I don't know where the concept of "don't like your neighbor, just keep complaining and get laws passed that only apply to them" comes into play. Everyone else around us shoots, drinks and has fires on their property, why should we be subject to special laws? If we allow this kind of BS to continue it will only be a matter of time before this issue comes to a place you might care about. News flash Sparky: Skydiving is the bastard child of the aviation community. DZ's are being pushed off public airports all across the country. And in our case its not because we pose a threat to the non-existant GA traffic at the airport.
  6. BTW, if anyone has seen our fuel truck give us a call at 1-800-498-JUMP. Its white, has no keys, license plates, registration or insurance. And the brakes don't work very well either, so don't try to drive it. Blue Skies, Colorado Skysports www.coloradoskysports.com
  7. Okay I think its finally time to add a few facts to the discussion. First off, on the access issues, the city intitially revoked an operating agreement due to a percieved deficiency in the DZ's insurance coverage. However, instead of having meetings to discuss the language of the lease with the DZ management, the city cut off all communication (inappropriately) with the existing DZO at the behest of the former partner. It has taken several months, some court decisions, and many city meetings to get to the point we are at now, which is essentially that the DZ is in compliance with all the terms of its lease and operating agreement. The city is dragging its feet in response. The cease and dissist order was issued by the city council in order to attempt to delay the reopening while they searched for possible venues to establish "rules" in regards to the airport. It is not a lawful order because it was not issued by a court. The PD and Sheriffs department are in agreement that the order is unenforceable. What would you do if your landlord told you that you were evicted but could not provide court documents and then told you that you were still responsible for your lease? We will continue to operate until we are served with actual court papers, at which time we will gladly argue our case. We look forward to our day in court. As far as firearms go, recreational shooting has always been allowed on airport property. It is completely lawful, and no one has ever been charged for any firearms violations. The sherriffs department has encouraged us to reposition some of our shooting areas for noise purposes and we were in the process of making range improvements (berms, backstops, steel targets, etc) last winter when we were forced to leave. We also made an agreement to notify them ahead of time when we fire our canon (its smoothbore and muzzleloading therefore not subject to NFA regulations). With regards to the USPA, we have never asked them for any help, and aren't expecting any. In a perfect world this is the kind of thing the USPA would be good for but thats not the case. Any alleged BSR violations are a completely seperate issue and if you don't know the internal detail of the handling of the matter, you should refrain from making any assumption. Denver Skydiver/ Colorado Skysports has long held the position that skydivers are a brotherhood. We support skydiving and all the DZ's in the state. We wouldn't want to see any of them close down because that would only reduce the number of choices we have as skydivers. I don't know why it is so difficult to jump out of an airplane at a deserted airport in the middle of no where Colorado, but apparently there are a few skydivers who just don't share that view. Sorry the town sometimes smells like shit, but we like it and so do a lot of other people. Its a free country, if you don't like the smell, or the atmosphere, or anything else you don't have to come, but as skydivers we should all be supportive of any place that offers people the chance to jump out of an airplane.
  8. Opening weekend was a blast! Thanks to all those who came out to support the cause. A quick update: We still have some issues with the city, but they won't affect our continued jumping. We will be closed this weekend, 9/23-9/25, due to prior commitments in Canon City. We will be closed the following weekend, 9/30-10/02, so we can all go to the MOAB Boogie. Hope to see everyone out there. After that, jumping will resume as normal. www.coloradoskysports.com
