  1. Hey guys. Been a while.

Weather is starting to break, and this summer sees me with a lot of free time. Looks like I'll be back, jumping, learning, and trying to have fun.

It's all good. Hope you are, as well. :)

  2. Funny you mention that - I'm looking at about four or five homes in Florida now to buy and rent out - Anywhere from $120 to $200k in price. For HOMES! Actually homes - not condos or apartments.

Also looking for one or two in Vegas on the Strip - $600k-$800k 2 bedroom condos now going for $120-$200. It's just sick.

I'm also looking at buying a place in NYC to live, (instead of renting like I do now) but that's down on the list. Fact is, buying in NYC or buying a few places in Florida - I'd make more money buying and renting out the places in FL and LV, while continuing to rent in NYC. Skymama has seen my apartment. She knows it's worth keeping renting it. :)

Yeah! 3 bedroom/2 bath ranch homes in my neighborhood are now listing with price tags of only $1.3M price tags and selling for just $1.1M.

Maybe I'll buy two and make a fortune renting them out for $3000 a month - lesee, $4200/month mortgage payment, $1400 in property taxes, $3600 monthly loss before insurance, might not work that well.

While real estate prices have dropped, there are still many places where the cost to "own" (rent most of the money from the bank) is over double what it costs to rent a comparable property in the same neighborhood and school district.

There are also places where it's much less expensive to buy than rent although I wouldn't want to live there.

  3. Trash it and get an AmEx green card. You have to pay it off at the end of the month.

Check out http://www.bankrate.com/calculators/credit-cards/credit-card-payoff-calculator.aspx to see how much it'd cost you.

    Don't do it.

So I just got my shiny new credit card in the mail yesterday :D So tempted to put WAY too much on it. Have my eyes on a new suit, a big ol' block of jumps, and keep getting tempted towards some tunnel time. My conscience is battling itself on whether I should be fiscally responsible or just have say screw it b/c there's no interest for the first yearB| Wondering if DZ.com is gonna joing the angel:) or the devil  side of the argument....

  4. Hey gang...

My second book came out a few weeks ago, (on social media and customer service) and Pearson/Que (my publisher) is throwing a launch party for me tonight. They told me that have a few extra invites - It's in Manhattan, from 5:30pm to 7pm... If anyone wants to attend, email me- [email protected] - Happy to bring some skydivers for some free alcohol. :)

    Hope everyone's well!

  5. No, Remi, she can visit anytime. You need advance clearance and a letter from your GP.

    Unless you bring your bike.

  6. All: Could use some advice from those with more knowledge than me:

I fly a Safire 2 229, in an Infinity. About 29 or so pounds. I'm doing a lot of traveling (as always) but want to jump more. I have some connections at FedEx that will allow me to ship my rig whenever I need to super-cheap. To best care for it during shipping, I'd assume that a hard case would be my best option.

    My questions

    1) Is my assumption right?

    2) Can someone recommend one that they've either used for parachute transport, or for other "sensitive equipment" transport?

    All advice accepted.

    Thank you.

Has it become expected that licensed jumpers hire someone at the DZ to pack their gear for them???

    . :)

I keep saying this is the X (summer, winter, season, etc.) That 'I'm going to learn to pack.

But then, the packers are there... And they're so... packalicious...

    And fast.

Now that most airlines are charging for checked bags, I'm just curious if anyone has had more issues with the carry-on luggage?

Since that time, I've only flown with checked bags, so I either paid the fee or flew on Southwest. But for this next flight (U.S. Airways), I'm thinking of only taking a carry-on, and it's pretty much the exact dimensions that are the maximum for a carry-on, and I'm wondering if they're going to give me a harder time about it than they used to (when they didn't stand to get $40-$50 from me by forcing me to check it).

Anyhow, just wondering what others' experience has been....

Get on early, be nice, you'll be fine. Don't try to bring an elephant. Anything worth checking is worth fedexing.

I love mine. My boss, who is almost totally computer illiterate, absolutely loves his. Loaned mine to a buddy to show his wife...a similar computer illiterate...and called me an hour later to thank me for costing him $$$$$.

The more I use mine the more I am impressed with the job Apple did with it.

Agreed. It's not a laptop replacement. As soon as you accept that, it becomes a natural way of doing things. I take it more to meetings than my laptop - but will still travel with the laptop.

It's all about what you need it for.

    >??? - was this deliberate, or did you mean AAD?

But the bottom line here (and as expressed by a few others) would seem to be that he is willing to take the risk, even if others think it is unreasonable - and that only people who have 'seen him fly' can really be qualified to make any sort of a decision. Keep in mind that a license means nothing in a legal sense; you do not need a license to legally do any sort of jump at a DZ.

I'll take the full-on business-man approach to the situation. My house, my rules. you take the course, or find somewhere else to jump, if for no other reason than the amount of money I'll lose if you go in, both in lost tandem revenue as well as potentially having to shut down my DZ for a police review or shut it down for good if I'm criminally liable is more than I'll ever make off of you.

End of story from my perspective.

    Edited for readability.

The BOSS is Bruce Springsteen. Sorry, just saying....

Why to people glamorize the lives of those who pass away?

For whatever it's worth, that deal from 10K to a Billion had very little to do with GSs noggin and a lot to do with location, fans, timing, and technology.

No, it had to do with him seeing the value in paying lots of money for players that would win ball games, thus drawing fans to the stadium, thus making the Yankees a valuable commodity.

Strictly business talking here. I HATE the Yankees. I'm a Mets fan. The man was a very, very good businessman. End of story.

  13. Love or hate the Yankees, the guy took a team in 1973 he bought for $10,000,000, and turned it into a franchise worth over a BILLION dollars today.

By any account, that's f'ing awesome.

    RIP, George.

So I'm thinking about my fall/winter vacation plans and considering diving in Cozumel or the like.

Question is, will I get bored if I'm there more than a week ?

Anyone been there yet that can comment?

    Thanks.

Will be down there after Thanksgiving for the Cozumel Ironman. You could always go then and watch people die from heat stroke.

  17. 90 days in jail plus 90 in a rehab facility when she gets out. So, 23 days in jail plus 45 in a facility.

BUT... She gets two weeks to report to jail.

WTF?! I can't even get an extension on my corporate tax returns.

    Feh.

Although watching it was DAMN good TV last night. :)

    >But what if they one day want to do more?

Then I'd go with a Canon EF-S SLR. Much, much more flexibility than a point and shoot.

Possibly. I'd think that would scare them off, though - Because then they have to carry a bigger camera at all times when it's not needed 99% of the time.

I have a D5 Mark II in the house - I take it out maybe once a month. Sad, I know - but no need.
