  1. dbatt, yeah standing on that wing and looking down makes one wonder.. i went tandem 20 years ago with Mark Schlater. Blew my damn head off. Took 20 years toi get the nerve to go again. Now I am hooked.
  2. Brian is correct. His DZ does NOT use radios for the students. The rationale is obvious.... the only way to really learn.......... Alone and naked up there scared the hell outta me..but I did learn!
  3. Both me and the wife made our first S/L jump at Skydive Opelika. I have to say we were extremely impressed with the quality of instruction both from a practical and theoretical point of view. My wife had no plans of jumping prior to our arrival......... I felt so much more comfortable about jumping after the instruction. I don't know if I did everything right but came down and landed very smooth. Can't wait to do it again. Buddy, JP and their crew have it going on. These folks are practical, down to earth, and have NO problem sharing their experience. I was at another DZ 3 weeks prior and went through 1.5 hrs of ground school and did not get to jump due to weather. We had a solid 4 hours at Opelika and it was worth every minute (obviously!) As a newbie I cannot comment too much on the equipment and such, other than it functioned flawlessly for all students involved. I cannot say enough about the excellent student instruction from JP. If you get the chance check these folks out.
  4. Hi All. Just completed first S/L jump at Skydive Opelika. Wife jumped too! Have to sell the Yamaha R1 now. Thoroughly enjoyed the experience can't wait to go back. First jump thoughts, I'm a big guy 6'3 250. They put some kinda chute on me called a HALO. When I looked up and saw that huge thing open, the first thing I thought to myself besides relief is "damn, I must look like the space shuttle landing" Great folks at Opelika!
