It was. But thanks to the USPA, the FAA, a Federally funded airport, and a persistent individual, weeeer back bigger and better.

yeah funny what happens when the town runs out of money and has to make up huge deficits.

    yawn.

Why? For regular jumpers it can be Skydive Monroe, for internet surfers it can be what ever gets their attention and gets them jumping. I am just glad it is there and open. The city announced last week, in the local Walton County Newspaper, that it will accommodate the new dropzone by clearing out a lot more trees to provide us with an even larger landing area. I will leave it to Gary to give the exact dimensions of the enlarged area.

isn't that the same city that had no problem telling the old Skydive Monroe to get lost?

locals don't even know what lane markers are

true dat. everyone expects everyone else to drive like a new yorker. the ones who stick out are the ones who try to drive all safe and defensive. no one else knows how to deal with those people.

another option that might be worthwhile - there are always apartments available for a few days or a week at a time. craigslist.org will have a bunch of listings. often you can find a decent apartment for a week, for less than 7 days' hotel.

  4. No kidding. I'm at Chelsea Piers at least twice a week and would love to have a tunnel there. Unfortunately, I emailed Skyventure in August and got the following response:

"That project (Chelsea Piers) at this time is not going to happen. The closest tunnel will be at the meadowlands new project (Xanadu) and should open early 09."

    Ah well....

I see that there are actually three in the works (Philly, Manhattan, and Xanadu in NJ) in my area

Last I heard, the Xanadu tunnel (at the Meadowlands) is on plan for an early 2009 opening, while the Manhattan tunnel is not happening.

  6. Hey, any NYC skydivers out there? I've just moved up to the city, and I'm trying to figure out who's in town. Anybody carpool to the DZ (I didn't bring a car with me)?

Also, I'll need to get a repack. Are there any riggers in town?

    Thanks!

InterPoker celebrates WSOP with Loser's Leap

InterPoker is celebrating the 2006 World Series of Poker (WSOP) with another of its infamous extreme poker challenges.

Loser's Leap will see InterPoker host a card game with a difference as a number of top poker pros fly over Sin City with their parachutes at the ready.

This is because if you lose in this extreme poker event, you have to undertake the Loser's Leap and fling yourself out of a soaring aircraft.

Taking place on July 26th from Jean Airport, the latest InterPoker extreme event will involve top players such as Phil Laak, Antonio Esfandiari and InterPoker's very own Scott Fischman.

All players will embark on a SkyVan aircraft before cards and chips are dealt and the game begins - however running out of chips at 10,000 feet means a swift exit from the plane!

Peter Marcus, InterPoker spokesman, said: "This Extreme Poker event creates an unprecedented challenge for the players to overcome because each of them will have to fight through the stress of knowing that of they lose, they're going to jump out of a perfectly good airplane.

"In this event, the poker pros aren't just overcoming some discomfort or strange circumstances, there will be a huge element of adrenaline and a degree of genuine fear. That will make for an even more entertaining time for everyone."

InterPoker players have a chance to qualify for the extreme poker event by taking part in the online qualifying tournament on Saturday July 15th.
