QuoteI'm guessing they have 14 people that will say that the flights of that day weren't the "normal"
My litigation attorney brain figured they'd probably do that after the site visit the very first time I read that the site visit would take place. I can almost guarantee you the plan to discredit the site visit, one way or another, was formed before the visit even took place. I'd have been shocked if they hadn't filed this motion... or done something like it. Oh, well, they're nothing if not predictable. Hopefully the court will see this predictable move for what it is. -
wildernessmedic******Ok thanks. I'll just suck it up and keep using the ugly smelly gross one with a torn out ass.
Why not offer to take it home and run it thru the washer?
Not sure it would survive a wash cycle lol.
Might see if I can use the next size up.
Lots of DZs really appreciate a little bit of volunteer help and there from their jumpers. Volunteering to wash a few of their jumpsuits would not only increase the supply of cleani(ish) jumpsuits, it's an excellent suck-up to the DZO, especially for a student. A win-win for everybody. There are more ways to spread good will at a DZ besides just bringing beer. -

Agreed. I'm all in favor of starting out on S/L and then transferring over to AFF. Lots of students on S/L progression (RAPS) struggle with instability on the shorter freefall jumps due to poor body position they're not even aware of due to sensory overload. "You kicked your legs; go back up and do it again. And relax!" isn't very effective instruction. Been there, did that. S/L is a great way to punch through sensory overload and concentrate solely on the basic staying-alive skills; then AAD is a great way to learn freefall stability and control. That's why I'm in favor of hybrid training programs, which IMO not nearly enough DZs offer or encourage. -
QuoteAre long-time NYFD firefighters dying because they or their colleagues are no longer fit enough?
No, that's more of a police issue - the more fat-ass donut-eaters there are who don't have to meet physical standards anymore, the more dark-hued perps get back-shot. -

QuoteQuit being obtuse.
Please stop quoting my wife. She can speak for herself.
I'm sure she's right but is she a-cutie?
you are such a square when you go off on tangents like that
(I'm rooting for at least 3 more obvious posts along these lines)
Depends on the angle at which you approach this. -
promise5I believe I passed a test that is equal to theirs. But again it's about personal integrity also. Take yourself out, instead of demanding that the standards be lower.
If people want to sit on the "well unless you take the exact same test" crap they can go ahead. But, I have passed what has been required of the departments I work for without them lower a standard. It was dang hard and I'm proud of what I do!
My point being: you expressly presumed that she'd be putting others' lives at risk. That is a separate issue from the issue of personal integrity. If it turns out that the test you passed was less stringent than the one she took, does that logically mean that you're putting lives at risk?
ETA: I'm not being obtuse about the points you're making, in general, and I realize you feel strongly about the topic. I just wonder if you're being presumptuously harsh in labeling her as putting other lives at risk. To be fair, I'd welcome perspective of other past or present firefighters on that. -
QuoteThankfully I'll never work with her. I'm sorry for the lives she will put at risk.
Have we established that the requirements you passed on your test would necessarily have resulted in a passing score under strict application of all FDNY test standards? -
Driver1So... ISIS is claiming responsibility for the gunmen's attack at the muhammad cartoon contest.

Anybody can go on the internet and claim responsibility for anything. -

QuoteDecompresion question on freefall dynamics
I thought you re-compress in freefall, not decompress. Explain. -
ElishaCan we get the topic back to the are where 80% is consumed (being Ag), mmmkay? Thanks.
You know, I hear that 80% is consumed by Ag! What's with that? -
rhaig*********Is this the same Texas where the Governor has instructed the State Guard to spy on a Special Forces training exercise, because he is afraid it is really a ruse to take over the state by the Federal Government?
That Texas?
As some one else posted on Facebook, even the crazy is bigger in Texas.
Abbott basically sent a guy to meetings. He created a communication channel that is under his control.
Because Walmarts have been closed for 6 months to have them prepared to be used as detention centres.
A state government is worried about the federal government invading it.
Is that what he told you he was thinking when he decided to assign that guy to attend those meetings?
Because i have it from a friend in the TSG who works on the logistics & communications side of the house that this was planned long before the meeting in Bastrop County. This was planned because this is the first ever of it's size training event. It's taking place in public view with public interaction and in some cases without the public being informed of the when & where. That's just the nature of the training event. It seems prudent to have someone (retired military) sit in the briefings to inform the gov of anything that might be an issue from a citizens rights point of view.
In hindsight, it's also pandering. But he's a politician. I'd expect no less.Quotehttp://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2015/may/04/chuck-norris-warns-government-conspiracy-take-over-texas
'Texas Ranger' Chuck Norris warns of government plot to take over state
The actor, martial artist, and internet meme Chuck Norris has warned of a federal government plot to take over the state of Texas.
Writing on the right-wing website WND, or WorldNetDaily, Norris discussed the potential for Jade Helm 15, a US military training exercise planned for July and August, to turn into a full-scale occupation of his home state.
Exercises will be held in Texas and six other states during Jade Helm 15, across public and private land. The training has been the focus of rightwing conspiracy theories since a map published for the purpose of the simulation labelled Texas, Utah and California as “hostile”.
“The US government says, ‘It’s just a training exercise’,” wrote Norris, 75. “But I’m not sure the term ‘just’ has any reference to reality when the government uses it.”
Both the governor of Texas, Greg Abbott, and US senator – and 2016 Republican presidential candidate – Ted Cruz have been accused of pandering to conspiracy theorists with their reactions to Jade Helm 15. Abbott asked the Texas state guard to monitor the training exercise. Cruz said his office had “reached out to the Pentagon” to ask about the exercise. -
QuoteIt's always been safe to drink water from any source in the house.

From Bill's post...
4) (by far the simplest) charge for water. Have thirty gallons per person per month provided free (for drinking and washing) and then charge what it costs beyond that.
A low-flow toilet uses 1.6 gallons (or less) per flush.
So flushing just once per day, 30 gallons would be used up in 19 days.
I'm no techie by any stretch, but I've always been incredulous that fully-treated, potable water is used to flush toilets. -
QuoteI don't see anything in the test that requires fathering a child; peeing on a fire to put it out; growing a beard or mustache; or looking silly with a pot belly, bald head and goatee.
I also don't see mentruating; giving birth; producing milk from nothing; etc in the test.
Ah. Difference being, peeing on a fire to put it out; growing a beard or mustache; or looking silly with a pot belly, bald head and goatee are not necessarily exclusive to men.
Ya.
Your post fails.

I disagree and I wouldn't work with her. She's going to be a liability.
Good. Now you know how those of us in the military felt when the standards were being lowered to allow for a higher enlistment or retention of women.
Right on, bro! That's what we have the Navy for! -
airdvrTypical liberal solution. "We should just charge for it."
Of course when the municipality actually tries to collect on the water bill like they did in Detroit you'll scream that water is a basic human right.
Wait - there are lots of municipalities all over the country that charge users for water (or water/sewer) as a utility on an amount-used basis, just like electricity or gas. Am I missing something that you guys understand? -
QuoteThey must climb six flights of stairs, stretch hose lines, raise ladders, perform tasks that simulate breaking doors and pulling down ceilings, and drag dummies through tunnels with no visibility.
I would have hoped they'd be willing to drag anybody, not just those with disabilities. -
To my reading of it, the federal incitement to riot statute is written with such broad language that it could be abused by prosecutors to conflict with First Amendment rights. IMPO (short version): I wouldn't hold out great hopes for successfully prosecuting her under the statute under these particular facts.
