If it weren't for those companies who "don't really give a flying shit about our sport except for the dollar signs it represents" there are many sports that would still be operating in the dark ages. The money these corps bring in allow advances in technology and safety that would not be possible without them. Auto racing is a good example. Before the days of huge corporate sponsorships the drivers lives most often depended upon whatever local rescue crews could be rounded up by the sanctioning body. Almost without exception these crews had no idea what they were doing when it came to the trauma associated with high speed racing injuries and many died because of it. If you want further details read the book "Rapid Response" by Dr. Stephen Olvey.

Very good point, see it goes both ways, the sport pumps money into the corporation, which in turn pumps money into the sport in order to protect their investment. Does it really matter what the CEO actually thinks of the sport? Nah.

The Ore House (http://www.orehouseontheplaza.com/) on the square in Old Town is a good place to eat. Sit upstairs outside for a nice view of the square.

There is a church on the square called Loretto Chapel . It has a super cool spiral staircase that has two complete 360-degree turns with nosupports. It's very cool!

If you ask a local where Old town is, they'll send you to Albuquerque, lol. It's called the Plaza. There are lots of spanish and native history type museums either on the plaza, or very near it.

For touristy mexican food, visit Tomasitas. Very tasty. A bit more upscale, The Shed. I've never been there, but I hear it's fantastic.

Loretto Chapel is very cool, St. Francis Cathedral on the plaza is also very history filled and interesting. There are tons of galleries on the plaza if you're into art browsing, it's a fun place to just wander.

If you like hiking the Sangre de Christos are very nice, get directions to the SF ski area and there are lots of hiking trail heads as you go up. Might get some yellow aspens this time of year, but might be a tad early, depending on weather, etc.

You can probably get a loooong list of stuff to do at the front desk of any hotel on or near the plaza. Have fun, it's a cool town :)

Gee, talk about serving your corporate masters . . .

I can't recommend anything having to do with "Red Bullshit" but if you do go then root for Mike Mangold.

Mike's a very accomplished skydiver (and all around good guy) and comes to these "races" from the world of legitimate airplane aerobatics. For years he flew his practice routines over Perris and it was a joy to watch.

Red Bullshit pretends to promote, but only "uses" people (skydivers, B.A.S.E. jumpers, etc.) to sell their slop to teenagers . . .

And now they are revisiting the old trick of lowering the altitude (making it artificially more dangerous than it needs to be) so the rubes have to buy a ticket in order to see better. That gag was invented by parachute barnstormers of the 1920s who'd open so low someone off the airport couldn’t see anything . . .

And watch, I'll bet as soon as the crowds start to thin over time, they'll widen the gates a bit and put two aircraft on the course at the same time. I just hope Mike is out of it by then.

lol, someone's bitter. Guess what dude, all corporate sponsorship is in the effort to sell their "slop". Get over it.

    That is funny.:D

I'm now getting flashbacks of when I fell out of the car at five years old. Mom was turning onto a street and I just tumbled out. Maybe that explains the horrible "door fear" I used to have in the plane.:S

Yeah, but isn't tumbling out kinda the point in the jump plane?

How long have you been dating?

Whoa--what a can of worms!!! (sorry to re-visit this--was unable to be on a computer when it was "fresh" news!!!!)

We've been living together for 3 years.

I'm actually really surprised that so many people are so negative about the whole getting a place without being married thing. I don't poo-poo or lecture married people for being "stupid" because of the billions of horror stories I've heard about marriages going sour.. Fact is, lots of marriages break down. Fact is, getting a house together is stressful (and can lead to major problems down the line). Any idiot can see that!!! (and by the way, I don't think marriage is stupid--if it make you happy)

It's not a "dream home" we're buying, it's a place to keep our stuff for the next 5 years!! There are worst things in life than breaking up and losing an asset.. Worse than that would be one of us getting an incapacitating illness, or dying. Our wills are sorted, and we've got insurance.

When I say it's MINDNUMBINGLY painful, it is. We don't always agree on places we like.. We are both professionals who work long hours and it's difficult to view places.. We work in opposite ends of London, so what's a great commute for him is a nightmare for me.. It's tough and stressful. It's a strain on us because it's obviously sooo much easier to live in a crappy place when you're single--when you're together, however, quality of life depend on 2 peoples' happiness..

The "puke" option was tongue-in-cheek.. Sheesh, people!! Relax!! B|

Hey, you asked :P Oh, and I stand by my "opinion" that's it's not a good idea before you're married. Will you survive it? Sure. Will you come through without losing your life savings? Sure. Will it be more painful than it needs to be when/if you break up? Sure.

The boyfriend and I are in the process of getting a joint-mortgage and finding a place.. Just wondering wether anyone else found the experience MINDNUMBINGLY painful??

Yes. And MINDNUMBINGLY stupid. When you break up you will see what I mean.

I've recognized when people can't be convinced, some people only learn from pain. It's really too bad.
