  1. Smeger I am in the US. but have no idea what you are asking, sorry. Back to my post, there is no way I am going to be able to sit still and not at least learn some of the lingo, and some safety before my SIM book arrives. That is my nature. When I learned to be a sailor, I tracked down every piece of info I could and read read read like nuts before I got near the dock. I have to say my instructor was pleasantly surprised with the advantage it gave me. I know there is a lot of concern that internet learning will kill a fool but I also find these days there is a lot of people out there willing to step in and correct bad info. And I am a 'skeptical reader' anyway.... I do not take anything I read esp on the net as gospel. My hands on instructor is The Chosen One, I will Follow and Obey their procedures when the time to attend my classes comes! Thanks
  2. Yes I could wait for my instruction this spring but why not ask a few questions now? I have watched a few movies and it seems like any exit posture is possible (in the last hour I have seen standing, sitting, face-foreward or not, head first, flips). So, do most of you think I will exit the airplane facing the airflow, standing, (with the tandem instructor behind me of course)? Do we just lean out on the signal, or give a little hop or what? I am hoping I won't have to go inverted or do any rotation before the canopy is open (and especially not AFTER the canopy is out!) Actually my preference, if that plays even the slightest significance in the whole thing is to go out butt first and head a bit higher than feet. What are the chances of that happening? I am getting excited about the jump, can you tell?!
  3. Quotetalking about how he should have been paying attention to flying the thermals, instead of videoing? yes, that was what I saw.... are you saying PG is more dangerous than skydiving (I may have the terms confused, sorry) by your mentioning the difference? Thanks
  4. In fact, is there a place where a person can learn on-line about the sport beginning with the basics? Tks
  5. didn't see a stupid newbie Q forum.... Where can I learn terms like swooping, plf, hook turns? Thanks
  6. I just saw on TV a helmetcam depiction of a guy who was under canopy and got distracted by the scenery or something and started a turn. The turn became a rapid rotation. Soon the centrifugal force of the skydivers body to the outside of the turn and the compensating force the other way provided by the chute resulted in a horizontal spinning from which he could not recover. So he cut loose and popped the reserve and with fantastic luck was able to land on his feet in a forest at the top of a ridge. Any comments for a nervous first timer on what really happened and emphasis on prevention? Thanks
  7. I think if I could view an entire jump from takeoff to landing I would be a little more at ease when the time comes... anyone know of a site? Thanks
  8. Yeah thats the kind of stuff.... I find in most sports/hobbies there is usually a pattern or typical type of accident or injury at each experience level and I wanted to research it all a little bit before I took the plunge. Ooops double entendre. So... landing accidents from not remembering or following the training is that a good summary of the major causes?
  9. Hi. First timer, first post. Hope its the right forum, there are so many. Never jumped before but thinking maybe this spring. Want to review the accidents of first-timers or low-timers from the database of accidents. Is there any way to sort through them to find out what are the top 10 most likely accident scenarios for junior jumpers? Not really interested in the group jump accidents/collisions/stunts/commercal accidents. Thank you.
