  1. I have a Raven1-181 and a PD 176. I load them at about 1.3 to 1 and have used both of them more than once. Both flew and landed nicely for a reserve canopy. I have seen people biff their landing after a cut away because they were flying a different type of canopy and also off their best performance level and then blame it on the reserve.

  2. If the building is gone it will drastically affect our business. We can harass the airport by jumping out there but we will not be able to run the type of business we do now, especially in regards to students and tandems. If we don't have tandems, we don't have an Otter. That building would cost a lot to replace even if they decided later to let us have a building again. We need to try to do something now before it is to late for the building. Writing our reps is our best option right now outside of what Mike is doing to fight the airport.

  3. I hope a lot of people are there early on Saturday. Even if they were successful in the eviction, they can not just ban a group of aviators from the airport. It is a public access airport. We could go out there, jump and use the pilots lounge to hang out and there is nothing they can do about it. It is publicly funded. That would be like a public park placing signs that stated, "No doctors allowed."

  4. The most compatable format that I have found is to use DVD+R and to use Lite-ons book type utility to change the book type to dvd-rom. This makes DVD players see the DVD as a DVD-rom just like the ones you buy in stores. This utility can be found online and can be used in any Lite-on DVD recorder or any of the countless other brands they manufacture, including Sony.

  5. I just has this problem fixed at the local repair shop. They charged me $125 to get the tip put of my pc120. There were no parts needed but there is a lot to take apart to get to the lanc port. They even gave me the tip back (sort of like they give you the pins you have removed from broken bones I guess.) They had it back to me the next day.

  6. I looked at one at Best Buy. It did have a lanc port. I did not lool for manuel focus as I just assumed it had this. The camera is very small. It does have a 1/5 inch ccd and a small lense. Even though it still has the same resolution a smaller ccd will generally give you and image with slightly less color response per pixel. As best as I could tell from the small monitor hooked up to the camera, this did not have an impact on the quality of the picture compared to more expensive Sonys (best buy does not have anything high end). I also saw that way cool has 25mm adapter rings so they are available.

  7. I am fairly certain that is for output only. I have never seen an s-video capture port built into a laptop. They do make such a thing but I have only seen it on a special breakout box bundled with a video editing package.

  8. I have a 120 mounted on the top of my FTP. The 120 fits so tight in the dbox that there is no need for a thumbscrew in the bottom. As said before you will have to raise it some to put a still camera in front of it. It might be tall enough on the top of some quick releases to clear the camera but you will still most likely see the lens of the still camera once you have a wide angle lens on the 120.

    What software?

I am using Pinnacle studio DV8. Edition also has this built in DVD authoring software. I use Studio because it is easy to teach someone else and I am wanting to make quick videos. I will be going to version 9 as soon as I am done testing it on another machine.

It takes me 7 to 8 minutes to edit a tandem video, which includes the leader and slow motion spots in freefall.

Our videos are longer than 7 to 8 minutes so you could not wven run it through in that amount of time.

I totally agree that NLE editing systems produce much much better videos, but as previously stated, I don't think that the general consumer really cares and would just rather get their video quicker.

Videos are one of the main advertisements for the DZ. I want that advertisement to be as good as possible.

  11. I produce the DVDs with a NLE now. You can cut out a lot of those steps by using the right software. The biggest time factor for me right now is the rendering. I have to capture the video. On my 2.4ghz non hyperthreading system it takes a little bit to convert to MPEG but on the new hyper threading system this is instantaneous. I edit the video which takes 6 minutes including dvd authoring(after a lot of practice). The software I use has the DVD editor built in. Then I need to let the computer render and output the DVD. Now that I have two systems, I can edit another one while the first is rendering and writing the DVD. The computer only has to render once and I do not have to import the work to any other apps. My actual work time is very small. The whole process takes about 45 minutes but with two systems I can put out a DVD about every 25 minutes. With a linear editor you are still looking at 20 minutes best case if you are running freefall footage through in slow motion and again in real time with titles music and putting an intro on the front.

  12. It takes longer but looks a lot better. You can do a lot more with the NLE. The amount of time it takes me to edit is shorter on a NLE system. It takes the computer a while to render everything and write the dvd so the overall process is longer, but my amount of work time is shorter. I will soon have two systems up and running so that we will be able to edit a video while another is being rendered.

  13. If you have a good bit of forward speed, why don't you just keep flying your canopy? If you are going down wind and have reached a point where the canopy is about to stall and you close to the ground moving parallel to it, then shore, slide. For any other type of non stand up landing, a good PLF is on order. Most people do not know how to do a PLF properly and that is why they do not think it is of much use. Before and just after I had my knee surgery, I would do a PLF every time I felt like I was not going to land just right. I never had a problem and I was loading my canopy at 2.4 at that time.
