i appreciate the concern. i spent a while flying a 170 before i bought this rig. i know its going to be a jump but i know to use caution, i come from a background of other "extreme" sports and i know first hand that if you think ur hot shit before you actually are it'll come back and bite you, HARD...im not planning on throwing a toggle hook or a low turn at few hundred feet, just gonna take it nice and easy =]

    Just quoting it for later.

    It's a Spectre, ffs. :D

    2. 3
    3. PC in tow, baglock, hard pull. All in 15 jumps.

  4. Yes, well, of course, this is just the sort blinkered philistine pig ignorance I've come to expect from you non-creative garbage. You sit there on your loathsome, spotty behinds squeezing blackheads, not caring a tinker's cuss about the struggling artist. You excrement! You lousy hypocritical whining toadies with your lousy colour TV sets and your Tony Jacklin golf clubs and your bleeding masonic handshakes! You wouldn't let me join, would you, you blackballing bastards. Well I wouldn't become a freemason now if you went down on your lousy, stinking, purulent knees and begged me!

  5. They're having weather problems today. I don't think they've started the swoop comp yet.

freeflying is the future, but RW will never be extinct.

when we incorporate all the orientations in a good competitive sport then we'll have some really cool and true "body flying" - we're seeing that emerge in the tunnels even now

The difference you perceive isn't freefall discipline or age, it's attitude.....(and it shifts every 10 years or so)

Group 1 - we have people that want to excel and compete - they'll be great at any discipline - they'll smile at the other group and jump with them at boogies, but not much any other time

Group 2 - we have people that just want to play and goof around - they'll be hacks, mostly. But they'll have a different kind of smile on their faces. They'll also mock the other group because they don't understand them but are secretly jealous of their performance :P

the specific discipline has next to nothing to do with it.

Did you see? 35 points for two teams in VFS - that's exciting - those darn Group 1 people keep raising the bar

I'd love to see 35 points in a 3d skydive. Exit HD, next point sit, next point belly, next point back. That would be the ultimate challenge.

    And we're almost there.

maybe stupid question, why not stiletto?

They have a really short recovery arc, so you have to initiate your turn dangerously low. This gives you less time to adjust or bail. Not that swooping isn't dangerous in and of itself, but with proper canopy choice you can improve your odds.

  8. Tube stow gave me a bag lock. It was the only one that didn't release. I know now that you shouldn't mix tube stows and rubber bands, but at 85 jumps that little nugget of information was still unknown to me.

I will never use tube stows again. If I see someone with them, I tell them to switch to rubber bands.

  13. I spent an hour this past weekend getting off the net, but I'm still sort of tethered to the coach. As soon as he lets go I tense up and stop flying. I have about 6 hours total, 3 of which are HD.

Yeah, I hear you on the frustration thing. It's just a plateau, and it just takes time and practice to get to the next step. Part of it is building the muscles, part of it is muscle memory, part of it is relaxing and flying instead of thinking...

I wish I knew how to make it go faster, but tunnel time is all good time. You're learning whether it shows or not. Have you tried getting a coach and getting on your head in the air? I found that helped my confidence immensely. I can relax better in the air than the tunnel, so flying was easier. Plus you don't have to be perfect, and can have a great skydive with only a couple of docks. I always find myself mentally getting down on myself in the tunnel -- "Damn it, I know I can do this, wtf?!"

Stick with it. Eventually it'll click, same as anything else.

STAY AWAY FROM THE DOLPHIN !!!!

    They are CRAP.

If it means waiting a bit longer then so be it. at least you won't be stuck jumping a dolphin.

(I had to say it since no one else did)

me - 150 jumps or so until I had my own gear. But i was a 18yr old DZ rat livin in a tent and editing vids. Somehow was always able to find something to jump in that time. MAN it was nice to eventually get that Brand-New Mirage in the mail. :-) I remember looking at my wallet and crying too. lol ;)

I almost think that waiting a bit longer is better because that first rig of mine I was jumping for at least the next 4500 jumps (with new mains here and there of course) If I had spent money on a rig at 30 jumps I would have been looking for another one within a couple hundred.

    it'll come...

This is what I wanted to say. Did say it, but edited my post to be more diplomatic.

Dolphins suck. Seriously. Get modern gear, fer chrissakes.

  15. Are you really loading at 1.7 at 300 jumps?

Are you really jumping a Xfire2 at 300 jumps?

  16. 20. Just off student status (AFP@ SDC)

Suck it up, take another job, and buy your gear. Renting is more expensive.

If you're looking at a Dolphin, make sure a rigger looks at it and gets rid of the velcro. I'd get the infinity, if I were you.
