I'll believe it when I see it.Human beings, who are almost unique in having the ability to learn from the experience of others, are also remarkable for their apparent disinclination to do so. --Douglas Adams -
Hi all. I'm testing the waters to see if anyone is interested in forming a VFS team for next season. In the words of Dan BC, I'm casting my net wide. I'm more interested in personality and drive than flying skill -- we can teach you to fly, we can't make you not be a dick. Basic goals are to learn the intermediate dive pool and go to nationals; we can discuss more concrete goals once we have an idea of who's on the team. Home dz will most likely be Skydive Chicago. Message me here or email [email protected].Human beings, who are almost unique in having the ability to learn from the experience of others, are also remarkable for their apparent disinclination to do so. --Douglas Adams -

QuoteAt the risk of veering off topic, is there any way, at this point, that I can pay it forward to newer noobs?
Your sigline is your answer. You're already doing it, by letting them know A. what to expect and B. that they're not alone.
You're in that scary time when you're thrown in with the sharks and told to swim. The best way to survive is to swim up to the sharks and ask where the tastiest surfers are. I guarantee they'll be happy to point you in the right direction. Don't fear rejection, fear being a shitty shark.Human beings, who are almost unique in having the ability to learn from the experience of others, are also remarkable for their apparent disinclination to do so. --Douglas Adams -

These are great! I like that even your alti is correct.
And you're doing fine. Arching is overrated anyway. Why do you think so many people freefly? No arching required.Human beings, who are almost unique in having the ability to learn from the experience of others, are also remarkable for their apparent disinclination to do so. --Douglas Adams -
pops, stop trying to be the lone voice of experience. I gave the OP good advice. Sorry I wasn't tender and sensitive about it.

You misunderstand. I wasn't trying to minimize them at all. I don't see where you get that. I just don't like the idea that he is somehow "more fearful" than anyone else. We all have fear, and we all deal with it in different ways. My point is that it doesn't have to be paralyzing, but it will be if you let it.Human beings, who are almost unique in having the ability to learn from the experience of others, are also remarkable for their apparent disinclination to do so. --Douglas Adams -
QuoteI am starting to believe that I fear much more then most people. Or maybe fear impacts my mind more then it impacts others.
Bullshit. You just haven't learned how to deal with, control, and focus your fear, which is perhaps the strongest and most primal emotion we experience. "Transcending Fear" is a good book, read it. Then go to the tunnel and spend time getting comfortable with the idea of flying your body. There are people out there who are awesome body fliers who have zero or 2 or ten skydives. It's ok to be scared, and the tunnel allows us to learn to do really cool shit in a safe controlled environment. Maybe that's the place for you.
Then, if and when you're ready, get on a plane with a couple of instructors, find your mental happy place, and get out.

Go to San Diego, find the nearest Pizza Port, and have their Hop 15. It's like a party in your mouth. Hoppy and delicious and oh god I'm gonna come.

Relevant section is 19.84, stating that meeting must be announced 24 hours in advance, unless in case of emergency which would make that impossible; 2 hours notice is otherwise required. The meeting was scheduled for 6 pm and notice was given at 4:10. That's too late by either measure.Human beings, who are almost unique in having the ability to learn from the experience of others, are also remarkable for their apparent disinclination to do so. --Douglas Adams -

The legal system will get involved. The meeting had less than 2 hours of notice, which is illegal by state law -- 24 hours notice is required, unless extraordinary circumstances apply. It remains to be seen if the law sees 3 weeks of protests as meeting the standard of the law as written.Quote"We have confirmed with the Legislative Fiscal Bureau, the Legislative Council and the Legislative Reference Bureau that every item in tonight's bill follows the letter of the law.

The issue is that they didn't give legal notice that they were going to take a vote. Whatever they did in the meeting is irrelevant, as the meeting itself was not properly announced as according to WI law.Human beings, who are almost unique in having the ability to learn from the experience of others, are also remarkable for their apparent disinclination to do so. --Douglas Adams

Uh oh . . . sounds like it might have been either underhanded, or the dem that showed up did so, as he did, to save face and to let the process go. He offered him up as a sacrificial lamb.
The conversation should be interesting from here on out
I wonder if the Dems will come back now and do their job?
They will come back.
My question is wether or not they will redo the vote to be sure.

QuoteQuoteIt's fairly widely known that very few oranisations actually pass on all the monies collected, every step of the ladder seems to take their piece of the pie.
Yes, I know that. That's why I'd like to make an informed decision before I pick a charity to donate to. If he knows something about this specific organization, I'd like to know it. And, it's not really fair to the organization to just throw that kind of statement out there without any backup.

Doctors Without Borders is quite highly regarded. Red Cross is as well, but it's not clear if they send money donated for a specific cause to that cause, or into the general fund.
You can stop busting my balls now, asshole.
QuoteThat sounds promising, so were you jumping a crossfire 2 of the same size before you got your XFS?
Also is there anyone out there who has ground launched it in no wind? if so how easy was it?
thanks to everyone who has given feedback so far
Correct, I loved my xfire2 109 and wanted to push my swooping a bit without going crossbraced or downsizing. I jump them both currently.
Quotethe 63 was not even close to fitting in the rig.
My buddy has an all-sail, and his is damn hard to pack. I think only having the topskin as sail makes it a bit easier. I did cheat and have the first 20 or so packjobs done by a pro to break it in.
QuoteHow many jumps on the sail material and how are they holding up?????
and how is the opening compare to crossfire??
this could be my answer to downsize without getting another container....
i'm guessing full sail xfs will pack atleast two sizes bigger???
Openings are as good as crossfire. Nice and slow and mostly on heading. Never had a problem.
I have ~200 jumps on it now. It's holding up fine, still looks good. It's not a huge number of jumps, though.
I'd say your estimate of pack volume is about right.
Packing is a bit more difficult though. The sail material is bulkier, so for the same size bag it's a tight fit.
