  1. I jump in Ohio but will be down in Texas for a month and a half.

I read the reviews of Skydive Houston and it looks like a good operation....but what about the weather this time of year? Is it warm up at 12K?

How busy are they in the winter months down in Houston?

    Thanks

  2. Intuitivly, I would think your best chance at finding ratings on certain components would be to contact

    A-The manufacterer of the rig
    B-The supplier

Also, its important to realize that different manufctrs. might get their components from different suppliers, so you would need to research a specific rig/component.

  3. I just want to say that I bought the entire AFF license package as soon as i walked in. I had never made a skydive before. I dropped close to 2k before my first jump.

turns out they didnt have enough AFF instructors to support me. So one of the aff instructors offered to do the first two levels tandem. I accepted.
First two levels went awesome. perfect even.

3rd level? lol. it was one sided AFF...

unstable. potatohchippy, no pull. couldnt find handle. instructor had to pull for me.

I reccomend against the tandem progression. There is a HUGE difference in controlling your body when you have a big guy above you and a drouge providing some stability. as soon as i was on my own it was completly different.

Now i like the theoretical idea of first two levels tandem, then tunnel time. then level 3.

heh, but what you going to do? build on tunnel on every dz?
    :S

  4. THIS IS SKIPRO101... i accidentally used my email sign on instead of skipro101... but this is me :)

hrmm..I suppose my view of freeflying and RW is skewed alittle from reality then.

I guess im not surprised, i mean, I never sat down with a RW person and talk about what RW really is...

I knew that FF had slots and moves that must be dirt dived to be in a competition, but I also knew that alot of the jumps people do are just...whatever ya want, make it up as you go (outside of competition).

I had no idea that people RW with that same purpose (just go up and do whatever comes naturally..) I have never heard of that.

My view of RW is ALL sctructure

My view of FF is some structure (if you want)
but also a large percentage of just going out and doing whatever.

So people RW and just make it up without dirt diving? How prevelent is this? It surely isnt common at my dropzone.:S

I don't get high on it but I will swear by it. My landings sucked until I figured out the canopy so I had lots of experience with dirt and ff pants:P:S;):)
Kick ass in the egg pass and take names. Hope to see you soon:)

no eggs for me today...but I did get to 24 jumps and all my stuff signed off... so all i have left is the grad jump.

oh yea..and my last landing i still fell to my knees but the flare was perfect timing...just dropped a toggle when i felt myself go to the right.
man i cant wait to jump my own rig...I just need some stand up landgins!

  6. So what came of this? Has PD revealed their methods yet?

Im interested...because i was advised to buy a reserve that is quite small (its a PD) on the basis that its actually bigger when compared to a similar advertised size of another company....

Florida also has a fighter unit at Jacksonville with a NORAD alert detachment in homestead...they are my third choice.

Anyway...im really just looking for quality of living info for these two (or three) places :) thanks!

I am sitting at the Entry Control Point for the alert detachment in Atlantic City. 40 mins away from Cross Keys;)

Do you know how the alert detachment thing works? I would reeealy like to do the one in homestead. Do they alternate or what? Do newbie pilots get their choice?

    arg...miami sounds so nice heheheh

I, personally, would do the Jax thing....but, I may be prejudiced, since I'm trying to get a slot at Jax in the F-15. What are they flying in Hawaii? The F-16? That's a lot of water for a single engine....and a long flight to go anywhere in an A-10..

    Mike

Wow, hehe, i knew i could find info on here!

Are you from out of state? I know some guard units dont hire out of state and im wondering if they will even look at me. How far along are you in the process? Do you know when there next board is? I havent called yet.

oh, Hawaii flys F-15s :) ...they gots lots of water :)
