It would be great if I could get rid of the stains though.. sucks.

If they bother you that much you could always patch the canopy, but that seems a bit overkill.

Yeah, I think I´ll just get used to it... but thanks for all who replied!

    Cheers!

Store your rig in a dry cool place. I've never seen this with stainless grommets, but I have a Diablo with melted tube stow stains. The bad news is that as far as I'm concerned the stains are permanent. The good news is that they don't seem to have weakened the nylon.

Thanks for the reply gowlerk. It was kept in my bedroom all times, but I guess this was not enough [:/]. From the colour I would say the rubber bands caused the stain, but why then it has the grommet´s shape? Maybe some Chemical reaction? go figure...

  3. Hi all,

My VX (backup rig) was packed for almost a year. When I opened it today for a Reserve repack, I noticed the rubber stows melted and stained the canopy a bit with the gromets (they are stainless Steel, so not really sure who´s the culprit here).

Now I got 4 "donut shaped" stains on the top skin. Any way to remove it? Any fabric safe products I could try?

Thanks in advance and blue Skies.

  4. Same here. Openings are better but still a VX. Overall performance increase is very noticeable, especially the rear riser input.

The usual VX "slack" on the D lines while pulling the front riser is gone too.

    Have fun.

Well today I did my 2nd solo IAD jump. One of the skydivers there gave me a pair of gloves and my instructor said they would work fineI was fine in the plane, had my nerves under control even when the door opened. I was stepping out on the step, getting ready to dangle...as soon as my feet started to dangle I felt my hands slip off....damn GLOVES! I was pretty pissed..Probably scared the heck out of my instructor cause she didn't even tell me to go.

Had a rough landing..tried to land on my feet and I did but it was so hard my knee basically hit my chin...well it was a good skydive because I walked away and will be another story to tell one day. They told me I should find gloves...but I'm not sure where to look. I'm weird about spending money and I don't want the same thing to happen again next time I go. Btw, first time I went I didn't have gloves and I was able to dangle with no problem...But they said after a certain temperature the USPA requires gloves...Any suggestions?!

Try baseball batting gloves. I have a pair from adidas and I simply love them: they are thin (good feel), super tacky, flexible and low bulk. I bought mine at Dick´s sporting goods.

im trying to figure out if there is a difference in performance
in these two canopies. i currently jump a sabre and am getting a little bored with it. is the pilot considered semi elliptical?

Another vote for the Pilot here. I jumped Sabre 1&2´s and the Pilot had better openings, was more responsive and produced more lift during the flare, that´s my impression of the wing.

I was recently looking into the closing-pin-piercing-the-bridle issue, and came across the recent Parachutist article on the topic (http://parachutistonline.com/safety_training/safety_check/industry-bridle-response).

In that article, I noticed one interesting quote:

    Quote

Orientation of the closing pin. When the pin is packed in a ‘frown’ orientation, rotation of the pin is away from the point. This is the orientation required by Mirage Systems.

Now, I had been taught to always make sure the pin was "smiling". But I jump a Mirage G4. Should I be turning my pin over so that it's "frowning"? Furthermore, is this actually better in terms of making it less likely that the pin pierces the bridle?

I own a Wings W-5 and the "Natural" position of the pin (without any twists* and keeping the bridle window visible) is "frowning". My backup W-2 makes a smiley though.

*to the tape that links the pin to the bridle.

Hi folks. I just purchased a Bonehead Mamba helmet. Despite following their measurement guide to the letter, the size I ordered doesn't fit. The thing is: it fits comfortably "around" my head. It feels snug and doesn't give me that insta-headache you get when you put on a helmet too small. Problem is: my chin is waaaay out in the bottom. It's as if my head is too long (giant brain, you know). This is my first full face helmet, so I wanted to get some insight if this is just really wrong sizing, or maybe there is something I am doing wrong here. Cheers!

    Hi there,

I also own a Mamba and I experienced the same thing as you did at the beginning. After a while it broke in and the helmet fits like a glove now, I couldn´t be happier with its performance and fit.

p.s. It may sound silly but make sure you put it the right way (See photo attached).

To piggyback on this thread, does anyone have any experience with the DZs around Rio (or Lagoa Santa, but I didn't see any around there)? I'm going to be down in that area in April and as much as I'd like to, I don't think I'll have enough time to travel to Boituva.

There´s some jumps going on at Barra da Tijuca (Rio de Janeiro), but not regularly (Cessna 182 at 10.000ft). Your best bet in Rio will be Skydive Resende. The dropzone is operational every weekend and they have a Cessna Caravan going up t 12.000ft.

    Hi everyone,

I am new to skydiving :-) (Just started last summer)

I travel to Sao Paulo, Brazil often and would like to get some advice of where a drop zone is in the area of Sao Paulo...

    Any tips would be great.
Also, tips on lodging and such would be really cool as I would rather sleep around there and not drive from S.P. daily.

    Thanks

The best one in São Paulo will be CNP (Centro Nacional de Paraquedismo) in Boituva.

  11. Hi,

Do some high pulls. Start your 270 as usual and practice the transition up high. It should be second nature, no need to look at where you´re grabbing (Not to mention it´s safer too, since you are not looking elsewhere on your approach). It´s also very important to know the Stall point on your wing while on rears.

Great article on rear riser stall:

    http://parachutistonline.com/safety_training/foundations-flight/rear-riser-stalls

You can also practice doing a straight in approach with just a lil of double fronts if needed. This will lessen other factors such as speed and setup altitude, leaving you with more time to react and focus just on the rears (getting the feel of it).

    Hope it helps! Blue skies.

  12. I have hundreds of jumps with Stilettos and never had a problem with it´s openings: Flew ST´s 170, 150, 135, 120 and 97. Only had 1 line twist with the 120 (due to a sloppy packing) and it cleared itself before I tried to kick it out.

  13. I have 2 VISO2 and one Optima2 and I simply love them: Product quality, customer service, and functionality are excellent in my opinion.

  14. I did. Great guy. I learned a lot and he's very focused on safety and passionate about it. Couldn't recommend more.

p.s. After the course he was always helpful and willing to keep sharing his knowledge, then you know It's not about the money.

    Update:

    My wings just got shipped!!!

I just found out the size is a W-5 with a PD Optimum 143 and a brand new Nitron 135. I am so freakin excited.

Will post pics soon as it gets put together.

    Question for all W-5 owners:

How do you like yours??? Is the rig comfy and out of the wind? Problems with particular canopies fitting? Anything I should know before hand?

Mine has wingsuit mods, cut-in laterals, articulated, blah blah blah

    Can't WAIT

    Hi,

I own a W-5 and a W-2. Love´em both! Perfect body fit and super comfotable in and out of sky. I love how it hold its shape when closed. W-5 has a VX-94sqft which fits pretty good. The W-2 has a XAOS 21 - 98sqft that also fits good but a lil tighter.

    Cheers.
