I am ashamed to know that out president is a fellow Texan. Because of him I too have lost my job, now that the economy has turned crappy.Unemployment is also on the rise,so there again I'm screwed.I'm now very broke and in debt.No more jumping in my future I guess.

Atleast I can take comfort in the fact that I did not put this asshole in office...I voted for Gore!

What a load of crap. The president isn't responsible for your losing your job. The economy has little to do with him, and more to do with the previous president and 9-11. There is always a lag between the presidents actions and the effect on the economy. Clinton screwed the economy for the next guy, and everyone knew it before the election.

You'll get further in life if you spend your efforts solving your problems, rather than trying to find someone else to blame for them.

  2. As somone who studied low-temperature condensed matter physics in grad school, I can say it is definitely not possible.

The closer you get, the harder everything becomes. I used to do experiments at millikelvin (.001K) temps. Some of the other experiments were operating at microkelvin temps (.000001K). The really cold stuff took about a month, just to cool it to that temperature. One of my labmates had many months of work ruined when a janitor banged her experiment with a cart and instantly warmed it up.

  3. With all the concern over the portion of money people donate to events that pay for the events themselves and not the charity they are promoting, I came up with a low cost way of raising money.

"Cop a Feel for the Cause". You could let anyone cop a feel of your breasts for say $5 all of which would go to charity. Or maybe $20 for a bare-breasted grope. An equal opportunity event for those who want to feel Clay's man boobs.

Nobody could accuse you of trying to get a free vacation in the name of charity, and there would be zero overhead costs. Men would not be excluded from the chance to participate fully. Sounds like a win win to me.

rock solid in the sit though

Sweet!!! I'm still looking to get my first spock! I have to find someone that can fall fast enough in a sit to let me manuever and not just sit there keeping the fall rate.

Dude, get your butt up to Rome some time. I have a rock solid sit and I scream it down!

  5. I know they are having a boogie at Atlanta Air Sportz, but that is a bit further than Raeford for you.

Now if the weather would just improve down here! I finished flying the test time on my plane on Saturday, but haven't flown it since.

  6. Atlanta Air Sportz now has the best swoop pond in the state by far. Ron & the gang haulled out the heavy equipment for this one.

The splashdown to swoop ratio is still pretty high. I'm sure folks will get the hang of it soon.:S

Don't remove your helmet at 1,000 AGL like all the other sheep. You just got to the point where you would first consider jumping out of a troubled aircraft. Why degear yourself from being able to go RIGHT NOW out the door? Remember, the helmet is for exit too....and it may not be the most stable platform if you are HAVING to get out at 1,000 AGL.

I normally do this, and some times get funny looks. To be honest, the biggest reason I leave my helmet on is noise. The safety aspect is also a reason.

  8. It is all in the presentation. You need to relate skills learned in skydiving to your job performance. Some of the easy ones that come to mind:
    1. Understands hard deadlines
    2. Works well under pressure
    3. Knows how to manage risk
    4. Doesn't let fear control their life
I don't normally bring it up, unless they ask what I do when not working or will bring it up casually and related it to why I'm right for the job.
If I told them I was a flight instructor and skydiver who likes to fly around in planes I built in my garage without some explanation they'd think I was suicidal for sure.

  9. Hmm... I still have a raft in the box. I was going to jump it at the Casa boogie in Monroe last year, then I was told they wouldn't let me so I didn't waste my time (or money) on them.
Now if I could just fly another 13.5 hours on my plane between now and Saturday I could fly down for the boogie. Probably won't happen.
I guess my raft will have to stay in the closet till the Atlanta Freeflight Festival this October. The festival has moved up to Rome, GA and they are supposed to have a Casa, Porter, and balloon jumps if I recall correctly.

  10. Don't worry about your age. The only thing that has an age cutoff is being a captain on an airliner. One of my friends that flies for Delta told me they have quite a few ROPE's (really old pilot engineers) that are flight engineers on 727's because they are too old to fly.
If you are friendly with a local DZ, you can probably do some flying right after you get your commercial license (250 hrs required). It doesn't pay much, but it is free flight time.

  11. His biggest problem is that he has only had an instrument rating for about a year. He has over 3000 hours of twin time though. The ATP test is all instrument work. The 500 hours of cross-country is what gets most people, especially the ones who get all their time flight instructing.
I can't believe how much it is costing me to run the Zodiac. With the price of premium unleaded all the way up to $1.34/gallon It's costing me about $5/hr to fly. This is killing me.
