  2. davelepka, DougH I was hoping to ask some simple questions regarding Skydiving and want people to stay on topic without making False Accusations, Speculation and Comments that are Off Topic especially if it involves me, which it has. I'm not here to be your friend or to be popular. I don't need to know and have no desire to know who you are. I'm interested in asking some questions and learning something. My questions are on topic and relative to the forum. Would you politely remove your off topic posts to my questions before I contact the website administrator and have them do it for you? If that is necessary, then you will be wasting their time and my time because of YOUR inappropriate public behavior. If I wish to remain anonymous, guess what, it's NONE OF YOUR BUSINESS and it's probably a good idea. Ever hear of Identity Theft, Psychopaths, Sociopaths, Cyber Bullies, Mentally Ill Violent people who want to harm you etc? Guess what, they exist everywhere. Your responses are Off Topic, Accusatory, Speculatory and you are saying this in a public forum. Amounts to inappropriate behavior. If you feel the need to Speculate, Investigate, whatever...Use Private Messaging, your telephone and leave your responses out of my posts. I do not want you to post your responses to my questions if they are going to be off topic, accusatory and speculative

  6. I found this info: Here is a break down of your jump ticket based on a small DZ, flying a C-182 with Continental O-470 series, 300 hours/year (2400 heads/year, 8 heads/hour or 4 heads/load) and going to 10K MSL. ->Firewall forward OH reserve ( engine, prop, mags, carb, gov, engine mount, start, gen/alt, exaust, bafflings and etc): $25000 / 1500 hours / 8 = $0.26; ->Typical annual costs: $2500 / 2400 = $1.04; ->Aircraft Insurance and liability: $5500 / 2400 = $2.08; ->Fuel per load (avg) 7gl x $5.50 / 4 = $9.62; ->Pilot: $10 / 4 = $2.5; ->Extras parts, oil changes, unscheduled maintenance and top OH: $15 p/h / 8 = $1.8; ->100 hours inspection: 12 hours x $65 x 3 / 2400 = $0.97; ->C-182 airframe depreciation: $5 / 8 = $0.62 Direct total cost (not including office expences, ground crew, rent, facilities, utilities, taxes, free beer and etc...) : $19.00 Each DZ is different. There are more efficient, low cost and/or high volume operations out there. There are shortcuts too. here: http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=4096994;search_string=cost%20per%20airframe;#4096994
  7. It's the flat pitch of the propellers that are acting like a giant fan to slow him down, yes? If you could not control the pitch of the propellers, would this type of descent be possible, or would you go to fast and risk ripping the wings off? Can a Cessna 182 make a descent like the King Air? What would happen if you put the propellers in reverse while in these steep dive? Could you stop the airplane or make it go back up if you could keep the tail over the nose? Does Mike Mullins take observers sitting up front on a regular basis or does he prefer to keep observers out and do they pay the same rate of $26? Does his jumps ever get cheaper than $26 or is that the going rate? I'm comparing this to the Twin Otter at the Parachute Center which costs only $15. Is his King Air the most high performance/fastest jump ship in business?
  8. So I assume that Don Kirlins worked most of his life in the Drop Zone business, and does not have much profit for all the work he's done? He may have covered his expenses, but there was nothing put in the bank for retirement?
  9. I never took Physics in High School or College and am trying to research these questions that I've asked. Not trying to make things difficult, just asking some simple questions that pop up as I'm thinking about other posts that are somewhat related. Sometimes, the question if pretty simple. But when you get on Wikipedia, it becomes more complicated to the point where it's confusing, then I return to the forum looking for a simple answer. Just found the anwer: "A typical skydiver in a spread-eagle position will reach terminal velocity after about 12 seconds, during which time they will have fallen around 450 m (approx 1,500 ft)" at the Wikipedia Free Fall site.
  10. 1. Supposed you jumped off of a building, bridge, cliff, balloon...how many feet would you have to fall before you reach 120mph? Answer: "A typical skydiver in a spread-eagle position will reach terminal velocity after about 12 seconds, during which time they will have fallen around 450 m (approx 1,500 ft)." Found here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Free_fall under Examples. 2. People who jump from heights into pools, what are their speeds as they hit the water and how high are they jumping from? Are they reaching speed of 120mph? Answer: Dana Kunze, Record High Dive holder at 172 feet, tumbling type feet first entry. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4uHkyMh9FW4 Still looking for his speed at entry.
  11. I asked a few questions, so I'm not sure what the "Yes it is possible", is answering.
  12. If you were to build a device, say the size of a 10x10 room, and toss it out of an airplane/balloon... and you wanted to remain inside the device not touching the floor and not touching the ceiling, what would be the vertical speed of your fall? And if you could do this, that would be 0G, yes?
  13. Less than 1G is what you feel if you are in a car, and it quickly descends down a hill. You feel that the car is falling faster than your body and your body feels as though it is lifting out of the seat. At the point of you lifting completely out of your seat, but not thrown into the ceiling, you are at 0G's, correct? Anytime you feel less than 1G, you are at Negative G's, correct? And Negative G's begin at .999999....of 1G and less, correct? When does all this begin?
  14. Does the airplane spiral down around the jumpers or does it descend at a plumb/vertical angle alongside the jumpers?
  15. Not sure how to phrase this, but I'll try. Is it possible to roll the airplane, dive the airplane, and always remain at 1G and will the water in the glass always remain level, or will the glass remain on the dashboard and the level of water change angles in relationship to the glass? I guess there's level to the horizon and level to the relationship of the glass when it's level. So if you closed your eyes, would you know if the plane was rolling if the water remains level in the glass during a roll?
  16. Trying to figure out what Zero G's and Negative G's are, in simple terms. I looked it up on Google, Wikipedia...and am still confused. I don't want mathematical formulas, looking for simple, understandable examples. 0.165 G standing on the moon 1 G standing on earth. 0 G in the vomit comet when you are airborne above the floor and not on the ceiling. 3 G's on Space Shuttle Take Off and Landing. Is a Negative G, what you would feel if you were to fall inside a chamber where there is no air (don't think that exists) or what you would feel if you fell faster than 120mph while skydiving, like if you had rockets attached to yourself and you were accelerating as you were falling by rocket power? I've seen videos of Mike Mullins King Air where I assume he makes the plane dive and it assists the jumpers to the standing position. I've seen videos of the Vomit Comet airplane that is used to train astronauts and have seen it's parabolic flight curve on paper. Is that a Negative G? If you feel weightless and rise inside the airplane without hitting the ceiling, is that 1 Negative G? If you hit the ceiling of the airplane, is that more than 1 Negative G? How fast does the airplane have to fall in order to make you rise off the floor and not hit the ceiling, so you are floating inside the airplane? Is a Negative G a constant? Does it vary from whether you are inside an airplane or whether you are skydiving? When would a Negative G occur in Skydiving, never? How fast would you have to fall to experience a Negative G while skydiving? Somebody help me with this concept please? Thankyou in advance.
  17. Do you reverse the props and add power to a turbine to get them to drop faster or do you just bring the engines to idle and that automatically flattens the prop angle causing more drag which makes you descend faster? Are you pulling negative g's on the descent? Why do you say most airline passengers wouldn't care much for the descent? Is it the pitch of the descent, the view out the window, the negative g's? Does a pilot spiral the plane down or follow a glide path? What kind of pitch/bank angles are they using?
  18. Starting this out with some general questions about the business aspect of flying jumpers for profit and hope it will evolve and cover more. The art of making a profit from the skydiving business. Let's take for example Mike Mullins Super King Air at $26 per person or the Twin Otter at the Parachute Center in Lodi, CA at $15 per person. From the King Air website, it says it cost $26 to altitude and takes 7 minutes. "14 jumpers to 14,000' in 7 minutes under standard conditions" So how much does it cost to operate a Super King Air and a Twin Otter per hour and how does this relate to how many jumpers you can put inside the plane, get them to altitude, out the door, get back on the ground, and get the next load inside on under way. Does anyone know the math, time involved, and profits in this process? I assume the best drop zones for profits are where the plane can load, take off, drop the load, descend, land and load as fast as possible. Have good weather to fly year round, keep the taxi and waiting time to a minimum. Are the drop zones located at West Tenessee Skydivng and the Parchute Center in Lodi like this? Looking for comments on where the best drop zones or types of planes that qualify for profits and why, amount of profit, costs involved in operating a jump plane...? Thanks in advance.
  19. Curious how a pilot, Mike Mullins or any pilot in the business, get his airplane on the ground so fast after dropping off the jumpers? What does a pilot do to the plane/motors/props...that allows them to get the plane on the ground quickly? If you could compare that to a standard descent as an example, that would be helpful. Is this fast descent hard on the plane?
  20. Hello, Wondering if anyone wants to offer a ride from Oakland to Davis, CA for the American Boogie. I'm a 50 yr old non smoking man, college grad, former jumper from the late 70's. I would have to bring my 2 dogs, 2 folding kennels, an ez up shade shelter for them and food and water for us. Dogs can ride in the back of the truck in their kennels. A pickup truck, vehicle towing a trailer, or motorhome would probablly work the best for space. I would be willing to share all or part of fuel costs, or would be willing to take care of your dogs in exchange if you want to bring them...I am a competent driver so I could drive if you were injured, video camera operator so I could shoot your landings if you want... I would prefer to be at Friday and Saturday nights parties, returning sunday. Maybe leave friday morning returning sunday? Best way to reach me is email and phone message, use both, email can be limited. Please email and phone. That way I'll be sure to get one or the other. Thanks, Fred
  21. This may be happening to me also. My email says I have 2 new emails, yet I can't seem to find them. They are not in my inbox.
  22. I just checked my email and it says "Welcome Fred! You have a total of 2 unread messages" When I click on inbox, I don't see any new messages. Where do I find these new messages? What location? I think this same situation has occurred before.
  23. I am unable to send him an PM. Would somebody forward this to him please? skymonkeyone, I have been unable to read the forums and have been told that skymonkeyone is preventing me from posting or reading these 3 forums, Talk Back, General Skydiving Discussions, Wing Suit Flying. Would you mind releasing my name so I can read and post questions? And if you won't do it, would you mind telling me who you report to so I can contact them. I have no idea why you would prevent me from reading or posting. thanks
  24. After logging in, I click on the "Forum" Section and most of the categories have lines under them but these 3 do not and I am unable to click on them. Talk Back, General Skydiving Discussions, Wing Suit Flying. Who's the person who would lock you out? How can I contact them? Do they contact you about it? Thanks
