  2. Hello,
I have been teaching SL students since 1992.
This happens all of the time. the bottom line is, Your legs aren't out and you are backsliding.

If your car is in park and you turn the steering wheel all the way to the right and put it in drive... what happens? you go forward to the right.
but if you leave the wheel in the same spot but flip the transmission into reverse,... what happens? you go backwards to the left. SO....
If you know you have the "right turn" body input in, and it is working backwards, the conclusion is: you have your car in reverse. :)
Stick you legs out to go forward slightly and everything will fall into place.
pPlease arch more too. I've never met a student that couldnt use more arch in their body position. :)

  3. You guys,
Come on out and see us at Skydive Mesquite. We FOCUS on training skydivers, not tourists.

There are good instructors at the other places, but we run a different model/ business plan.

I have been training skydivers in Las Vegas since 1992.

  4. Every so often, one of my students starts to put on and adjust their own harness.... I chuckle at them and say, "why do't you let me do that?, they told me if I ever lost another student they would suspend my license" then I follow up with, "actually it was down in mexico, so it doesn't really count against me" :)

  5. I sent an email about certifying you as suggested below.

When were you thinking about doing this?
Does everyone have their own INDIVIDUAL current copy of the IRM and SIMS?
Have the prerequisites and proficiency cards been ccompleted by the candidates?
If you are serious, please reply in private to me.

    THX,
    VegasJoe

  6. Hey Everybody,
It is almost time for the American Boogie!
We have 108 confirmed guests from our Facebook Event page and 54 now for the BigWay on Thursday. There are still a few slots available on the CASA and the 2 PACs, we are going to have a blast, and give our best effort to produce a completion this year.
Give Collin or me a shout if you want on but haven't yet sent us an email.
I'll see you all in a month,
    VegasJoe

  7. Hi Everyone,
    I am wondering....
    TIs,
How much did you pay for you Tandem Certification course? Strong and UPT.

    TI/Es,
How much do you charge for the same?

I am wondering if there are regional differences in price across the country.
Please IM me if you are uncomfortable discussing this in a forum.
    Thanks,
    VegasJoe

  8. Come help Josh Hall (of Perris Fury) and VegasJoe Kaufman set a new Formation Skydiving Record for the State of Nevada, 50-60 talented and current skydivers of all ages will be selected to participate. There will be a HD(VRW) Record set concurrently on alternate loads, you can NOT do both, even if you can DO both. New POPS State Records for Nevada will also be set, ( FS and VRW). This event will take place on the Mesquite Municpal Airport (67L) in association with SkydiveMesquite. E-mail [email protected] for more information.

  9. Hey Everybody!
Get off work, come on out to Perris, and Jump with Joe! I, Joe Kaufman (VegasJoe) am going to be load organizing for RW flyers in Perris on alternating Fridays, come on out and jump this friday the 12th! If its your first time jumping with me, I'll even buy you a beer at the end of the day!

  10. Quote

I'm gonna throw this one out for discussion, especially from anyone who was on these jumps. At the poolside beer meltdown Sunday night, I was hearing some discussion among participants who said the formation was unecessarily complex for the number of people and too difficult to fly.

I take NO side on this issue in any way, shape or form and intend no criticism of the organizers or their planning. But since I was hearing some talk along these lines, I'd be interested to know how other participants feel about this.

Do they have a point, or is this just whining ? Joe ?

Joe says it is just whining, and wishes those whiners would have taken themselves OFF the record attempt, before wasting 50,000 of our dollars. If they were listening in the dirt dives, rather than screwing around; they would have heard the plane captains ask everyone if they had any concerns about their own ability to do the job that was asked of them. After the jumps are over is the wrong time/to late to say that you can't do it. After all, this was a serious World Record Attempt, not a boogie event.

  11. I've run into this time and again, since I jump around alot.
It was a hard lesson to learn when I was first appointed as an S&TA 15 or so yrs ago (Thanks John).
An S&TA is an advisor, a consultant; not the USPA police force. As an advisor, you are recognized as knowlegable and have previously demonstrated rational decision making. That recognition fades the farther away you get from you home DZ.
As an I/E, I carry the responsibility everywhere I go, (an S&TA at large, if you will), but I am jaded, I no longer waste the time talking with people who don't want to listen to me. I will bend over backwards to help anybody who wants help.
But back to the topic..everybody and anybody has the right and responsibility to communicate safety concerns.

note to self: start using spellcheck.
