  1. What you fail to realize is that different people have different levels of risk aversion and tolerance. It's not that they don't understand. They do understand. They perceive BASE as dangerous, and rightly so. There are very few sports out there that have the same fatality rate. (even though no scientific figures exist for BASE) Your golf and hunting analogy is inaccurate in that respect. As such, they think that this level of risk is not worth it for a 'pastime/hobby'. Too much to lose. BTW, I'm not a base jumper. I'm not even a jumper. This winter I hope to start AFF. Maybe, one day far into the future I will try base. But as a sportbike rider (road and track) I get the same attitude, for the same reasons. I've watched my buddy die in front of me, and had other friends die or get seriously hurt. I've never been to a trackday where someone hasn't used the ambulance or was medivaced out. For some people, the benefits out weight the risks. For others, they do not.
  2. I often haul ass on my sportbike but I've only been stopped once and recieved a warning. (which is awesome considering the long list of infractions I got stopped for, including some "wreckless" violations) Witold www.witold.org
  3. Thanks everyone! I'm sure I will lurk here alot trying to learn and absorb info. Right now, I'm pretty much looking for a cheap way to get started. Who knows, I might not even like it, though I have that "feeling" that I will love it. :) kydiver4u2: Army base in tennesse sounds right... I think I even found that DZ on this site. I'll probably end up looking through all military DZ in TN region to find it. sarge, that sounds pretty sweet. I'm sure you'll love it. I hear that penske really helps on R1 and 208s are very confidence inspiring. :) BTW, you should check out r1-forum.com if you don't know about it. I actually have an Ohlins prxls and scotts damper at home waiting to be installed and a 520 chain conversion on the way. I can't wait for better riding weather. yardhippie: hahaha... yeah, but I need to keep my bike. When I'm not tearing up the road on the weekends, the bike serves as my commute vehicle.(I have no car... hahaha..) It's definately a faster and a more enjoyable way to get to work each day. Witold
  4. I wanted to introduce myself after following the forum for a little while. Basically, right now I'm doing some research because I would like to get my license this summer via AFF jumps. That's the goal. So far, I have a grand total of 0 jumps. Anywayz, I wanted to ask if anyone knows the name (and maybe link) to this one military dropzone that lets friends/family of military guys take their training and get a license. I remember that it was really cheap and took 3-4 weeks to complete somewhere down south. But I misplaced the link to that DZ. Anyone know what I'm talking about? Witold My other hobby is sportsbikes. Here's my bike: http://witold.org/bike/bike.php3
