Dropzone Reviews posted by PhreeZone

  1. Start Skydiving moved to Hook Field in Middletown Ohio in 2010 and it really opened up the dropzone. Much larger hanger space, much larger landing areas and more jumpers to jump with. The planes were 2 Cessna Caravans so there were plenty of slots to jump but it looks like in the future they might be getting an Otter and a Caravan so that is good for even more jumps.

The Staff is some of the most experienced in the Midwest and includes multiple Course Directors if you are wanting to get any ratings. There has also been annual rigging courses for anyone that wants to become a rigger.

The Work Stinks event they put on each year is growing larger and larger and is THE event to go to each Labor Day.

For RW coaching they have members of Fastrax around to do any level of coaching needed. For Freefly they have multiple people that were invited to the recent record jumps.

They are located about 100 miles from Columbus and Indy, 30 miles from Cinci and Dayton and are off Interstate 75 so its not hard to get to the location at all.

The social scene is a really fun group that usually has a bonfire every weekend.

  2. The crew at SDA is one of the nicest around. Took me to dinner my first night there. They have a PIMP King Air that is only slightly slower then Mullins. Lots of skilled Freefliers, RW and CRW jumpers around to jump with.

They have a full hanger to pack and creep in. Short waits for the plane since its so fast.

I'd go back to Skydive Atlanta in a heartbeat!

  3. Don and Darlene run a great DZ in Hazelton. They have 2 planes ready to take you to altitude that are fairly quick for Cessna's. The Airport is on top of a mountian so there are great views every where. While no camping is allowed on the airport Don and Darlene allow jumpers to stay in the clubhouse at their home.

The biggest drawbacks are that they fly a right hand pattern due to the airport layout and if the spot is long over the coal mines there are limited outs so you better be accurate.

  4. This place rocks if your looking for nice, friendly people that go out of their way to take care of you. The 2 182's mean a short turn around time between loads. Interesting landing area, but a great quiet, hidden DZ.

  5. Latly I've had the chance to travel to multiple DZ's and while other places might have "Faster" planes or other gimicks to get you to their DZ, Greene County has the best environment to jump in that I've ever seen. The staff and regulars who jump there seem to really care about everyone no matter if you are a first jump student to a multi-world champ. With their large plane fleet, its next to impossible not to get a big way in the air. The planes are in better condition then almost any others that I've seen and the landing field is a couple of hundred acres if needed. I'll go to SGC anytime again!
