  1. The Adventure Loft in Perris has been doing my reserve repacks for the last 2 years that I've been in the sport, but they are an hour and a half from me and its very difficult to get the rig to them once its expired. Is it appropriate for me to ask if there are any master riggers in South Orange County, CA that can do my repacks for me? Any help is appreciated!
  2. I'm a low-time freeflyer (70 jumps). The 2 buddies I've been jumping with have lost interest in the sport, so looking for some new people locally to freefly with on weekends. Not too interested in RW. Anyone willing to have a noob tag along?
  3. Sorry for not being complete... it was my fault. Deployed without scrubbing off speed first. Very hard opening complete with 2 black thighs for a good 3 weeks . I've learned that lesson and won't repeat it. My J4 is about 9 years old and has about 70 jumps on it. Everything is in new condition and its been gone through by a great rigger (based on referrals). Spandex on BOC is in good condition and very tight. Based on what I hear, it sounds like I'm ok?
  4. As you know, I'm new to the sport, but am learning lots by lurking around here... and getting new info that is potentially worrysome to me. I have a J4 container with a Sabre 190 main. BOC with hackey. My solo jumps are mostly freefly, with head-down dives, sit-flying, and just general screwing around with barrel rolls, flips, etc. Am I asking for trouble with my container? Is it freefly friendly? I've already had the gruesome experience of deploying immediately after coming out of a 30 second head down dive and never, never want to repeat that.
  5. I was in Hawaii last month and picked up a pair of pants from him. He's a great guy... very interesting... and was very helpful to me. He told me he wasn't making any more skydiving gear and was shifting gears into casual clothes. I bought out of his remaining stock. I don't mean to put words into anyone's mouth, because its possible he's back in the skydiving business again. But.... be careful about placing new orders.
  6. Thanks all for the opinions and wisdom. Of course, I'm going to defer to your experience and go with a Spectre 170. The Sabres sound like they have a bit more performance, but the Spectre is much more enjoyable to fly overall.
  7. Hey all. I have 48 jumps. I jump my own Javelin J4 with a Sabre 190 P3. I would like to downsize and change canopy's for the following reasons: 1. The P3 is hard for this newbie to pack cleanly 2. Its huge and heavy to carry on my back.. would prefer something more compact and lighter. 3. I am very comfortable with my landing speed and the canopy performance. If you think going to a 150 is too much, please let me know. 4. The openings SUCK. I've used a couple of the tips here and they have helped, but its taking the fun out of my jumps. I demo'd a Spectre 190 before I bought this rig and was totally happy with its slow openings. I have a line on a Vector V1-2 with a Sabre 150, and also a Javelin J1 with a 7 cell Spectre 150. My main concerns: Easy, slow, consistent openings. Predictable landings and flares. I'm not into swooping or riser diving yet, of course. I'm 6' and 175 pounds. I'm currently jumping about 10 jumps per month. Given my requirements, which rig would you recommend? Thanks for any and all input.
  8. Psycho packing? Where can I get more info on this? I'm a new packer as well... Sabre 190 P3. Anything would help.
  9. Great time out at Perris last weekend! No balloon jumps yet (next weekend if I can get my water stuff out of the way). 2 heli jumps from 5,000 feet. Awesome! I tried to prepare myself for the falling sensation on the first jump, but I must tell you that it really took me by surprise. The sense of falling is very acute. No problems with body position. Good freefall for around 7 seconds or so for a 2800' opening, my lowest ever. Great landings with no problems. Lou - Your advice: 3. roll the nose: 4 cells rolled in, 5th leave alone, remaining cells rolled in. give them about 4 to 5 rolls and leave them. Don't push the nose back into the canopy. Worked great for me. I definitely noticed a slowing of my openings. Rock on!
  10. Not yet... guess I get to jump in the freezing-ass pool this weekend. And anybody who can find me this weekend gets a beer on me, hehe.
  11. Yep - Jack has also gently reminded me that I need my B... guess I'll be jumping my brains out this weekend to get my B lined up for the balloons next weekend. Thanks for the advice on the slider mods... I'll have a talk with my rigger and get those going.
  12. This is my first posting here... glad I discoverd such a great resource! A little background: I have 43 jumps acquired during the last 6 months at Perris and Hawaii and hold an A license. I'm jumping with a Sabre 9 cell 190 in a Javelin 4 container with a Cypres. I'm very comfortable (and very cautious) and have had no alarming incidents, with the exception of hard openings, which I will cover in a moment. This weekend I plan on attending the Jack Off to Perris boogie at Perris and experiencing the DC-3, a helicopter jump at 5500 feet and a balloon jump (3500 feet?). I would like to inquire about any special considerations or warnings I should heed from other experienced jumpers. As a point of reference, I am always immediately stable when exiting an Otter or Skyvan normally. About the hard openings. I am not enjoying my openings at all. I've packed myself, using the "roll the nose method'. And have had several others pack my rig. It opens very quickly and very hard compared to the Spectre canopy I've rented in the past. Frankly, I don't look forward to the openings at all and am endeavoring to replace my main as soon as possible with a Spectre 170. Is this normal for a Sabre 190 P3? If it is, why would this canopy be so popular in the sport? It is completely beyond me. Thanks for any enlightenment and blue skys!! Wanted to add: Anyone who dives Perris or Elsinore on here? I'm in Laguna Niguel. Wouldn't hurt to meet new people since I'm a newbie!
