  1. I reread my post and I kinda came off wrong...sorry man

I was just trying to relay my own expieriences and suggest that people think about wheather a more convinient altimeter mount would be better for them

as an added bonus if you hook turn, it is right in your field of view during your setup to final

Like an idiot I move my arm forward so I could see it and was sent tumbling. What a knuckle head.

You should always be able to look at your altimeter at ANY time. What is more important your altitude or your sitfly? I used to be pretty much the same way, then I had a CYPRES fire on about jump 140...I was headown the whole way on a 3-way, the dive was going perfect, the last thing that I would want to do is check my altimeter...wrong...I dumped at 1500 and snivelled through my CYPRES.

What I ended up doing was getting a mudflap altimeter mount...they are perfect for freeflyers, I don't even have to move my head to look at it, just my eyes.

  3. I am working at Auburn University...standing "study watch" in the Naval ROTC unit.

Seems kinda retarded to me, people call me to tell me that they are studying in the library or at home and I have to log them in. I thought that ROTC was looking for self-motivated people, in my opinion we cuddle them way too much.

I should be jumping today, skydive atlanta just got an awesome new kingair... I think that it has -28's on it:(

  4. Maybe I should have been clearer...I was trying to see if the auburn email system was down...her and my passwords are the same(mine is different from hers, I mean I have the same password for everything as does she) for everything so I knew
so I openened up hers with her standing right there. I commented on the letter from XXX and she said that we should look at it together.

I talked to her tonight and told her how I felt, ie she can do whatever she wants, but she said it would be inappropriate to hang out with a guy who has the hots for her. I agree. So I guess there is nothing I can do but relax. If she wants him she will go to him, I am %99.9 confident that she will stay with me. The only thing that would concern me is if she decided that she liked him (or had any doubt), how long would she wait to tell me?

I guess I will just see how it goes.

  5. I know that this post sorta makes me look a little psycho...but I am a realist and if she would like to go I would like to know as soon as possible. Life is too short. Given her previous "I didn't want to hurt him" comment I am afraid that she does love me...but maybe not enough to love me forever. I know realationships are work but I know too many divorced people and I don't want to commit a good portion of my life to someone that doesn't really want to be with me over any other.

  6. Believe me, when I get drunk I use it as well:)
It usually does not work for me though, congrats

On a side note, I was thinking about running for student office and relying on my name to get me elected

Would you vote for someone if their name was Mike Hunt

  7. Everyone probably gets better every jump they make, but there is definently a difference between different canopies. The style of flare that is done on a large canopy and a small canopy is different. Some people have a tough time figuring out how to flare a large canopy and a much easier time doing a two-stage flare with a canopy that is a little more high-performance (~1.0 loading).

Last year I jumped a 290 student canopy (was doing a Mr. Bill) and the landing sucked...I barely stood it up. I definently was one of the people who had a difficult time landing a single-stage flaring canopy.

    To each their own...

Again, I don't think it makes sense to make purchasing decisions about the gear you will jump every day, probably for a thousand jumps without incident, based on this highly unlikely combination of events.

By that logic if you are an expierienced jumper who is aware of what is going on then you don't need a CYPRES. IMO anyone who skydives should consider every possibility, and if there is an alternative that would make you safer, then you should consider it.

I see you have a CYPRES, have you used it? If the answer is no, then why do you need it?;)

  9. The stadium announcer had a blast with that when I was in high school.

    On a more serious note:
Consider yourselves lucky your parents had some foresight when naming you.

    Me:
I would like to reserve a room for the 26th.My name is Michael Hunt.

    Holiday INN:
    Funny!...click

Don't laugh it has happened before

  10. They have a large easy to read face, but...they are set up so that 13 is the largest number displayed
most other altimeters use the more intuitive 12 hour display (like a watch)...you get used to it but at first it was kind of strange for me

  11. I have had my sapphire for about 700 jumps and it looks and works great.

    A side note:
A person at Skydive Walterboro packed a sapphire in his canopy and when he opened on the next jump it fell from 2000ft.

A few weeks later the lawnmower guy found it and after a new clear plastic cover it still worked great.

  12. I would say demo. I had a similar change from a cobalt 135 to a xaos 120 about a year ago, at about 500 jumps. I weigh about 205 without my rig, camera, etc. I love the xaos. The real question is why are you changing canopies. The xaos has much more low end lift than the cobalt had and the openings are MUCH better. Demo or try to arrange jumping someone's xbraced. If you are near atlanta you are welcome to my 120 xaos

  13. I recently found myself in a somewhat similar situation.

Last year I lived in Auburn, AL about 2 miles from campus. When I first looked at the condominium that I would be renting I was attracted to the low density of the units ( 4 per building) and the fact that the one that I would be renting had a private drive and trees surrounding. Next to my house there was a large section of low-rent (government) housing. I have lived in some "bad" neighborhoods in Charleston, SC and Orlando, FL and I subscribed to Andyman's notion that there was really nothing to be worried about.

I left the house one afternoon for two hours and someone climbed into my window and stole my playstation and several DVD's, this was very bold because my roomate's car was outside and my unit has three floors(one bedroom on top and bottom and living area in the middle) I called the cops and that was that.

Two weeks later I went to the DZ one weekend and returned to find that three out of the four units in my building were burglarized ( one had no tenant, nothing to steal) This time they just broke down the front door and entered to steal the rest of my DVD's 2 DVD players and various small things.

A few month's later a person in a building adjacent to mine was robbed at gunpoint.

I was told by the realtor that if I put more than the supplied deadbolt on the door I would be charged for another door when I moved.

A month later when I left for the DZ for a weekend I was burglarized again and they stole pretty much everything left of value that was in my house.

More than once these people would climb up the balcony of other apartments only to be suprised by the tenants.

Doesn't make you feel safe does it? (my roomates car was broken into twice and the neighbors were robbed at least two more times, I don't know I stopped sleeping there for the most part)

A short time later there was an incident where a resident surprised a burglar and was shot at, in their own home.

I wasn't able to sleep, I got a gun, I was able to sleep.

The criminals will (in this country) always have access to weapons, take away my right and I have a real problem with that.

I understand that it is not likely that I will ever have to use the handguns that I bought. I have a permit now and always have one with me.
    But,
on the offhand chance that I do need it at least I will have a fighting chance of defending myself.
On the street I would only draw the weapon if I was ready to fire and had a clear indication that someone was going to cause me or my loved ones harm. At home it is a different matter, If someone is in my house I will ensure that the person is unknown to me and threatening and ask questions later. The person might have only wanted to burglarize me, but in my opinion they gave up their life the minute they stepped into the door.
