    ebay

    or dropzone.com classifieds.

Actually I know of several. Does she want them nice looking or trashy? With or without lines?

I've been looking around both of those sources, but I thought maybe someone might have an inside scoop here. :)

I've requested more details about what she needs (I don't know what she's doing with them), so I'll let you know when I get more details. Thanks.

  2. My mom is doing an art project for Earth Day, and wants to get her hands on some old canopies (round or square). Where should I direct her?

    Someone on here must know.

  3. Just had to pop in and say thanks to LisaH for putting me up (and putting up with me) on XXXmas. I owe you a cheesehead. Keep an eye out.

The roadtrip was WONDERFUL. I made it safely back to Madison tonight. What a way to ring in the new year. 2009 already?!

    Thanks, Lisa!

  4. Hi Amazon! You're not down in Eloy this year? Or will you go after Christmas? Yeah, it looks like I shoulda gone to Seattle; there are plenty of you folks online tonight!

  5. ...anyone in Los Angeles have a couch I can spend Christmas night on? Or know of someone?

Only a few CASAs, DC-3s, and other specialty aircraft would be affected; the popular Twin Otter jump aircraft and most other jump planes fall below the stated weight threshold.

Ooh, my mistake; thanks so much for the clarification! Still, it's not the direction we want to see things moving, and I think it's important people make their voices heard. Thanks Randy; it's good to hear the USPA is taking a strong stand against the proposal.

  7. So I haven't been on dz.com in a couple years or so, but I thought this deserved a mention. Sorry if it's already been brought up; I did a search and didn't find anything.

I'm just going to cut and paste this snippet from this month's EAA SportAviation magazine (I think they said it quite well...)

EAAers Urged to Respond to TSA’s Ominous Proposal

As reported last month, the U.S. Transportation Security Administration (TSA) has proposed sweeping security rules for the operation of aircraft that weigh more than 12,500 pounds. The proposed regulation, titled the Large Aircraft Security Program, would require owners of those aircraft to obtain permission from TSA to operate their own personal aircraft every time they carry passengers. Additionally, all flight crews would be required to undergo fingerprinting and a background check, all passengers would have to be vetted against the government’s terrorist watch lists, and numerous security requirements would be imposed on airports serving these “large” aircraft. EAA adamantly opposes this regulation and urges all members to respond to TSA.

In early November, the TSA did extend the comment period on the proposal, as EAA and other aviation groups had requested. Instead of the original comment deadline of December 29, 2008, TSA extended the comment period until February 27, 2009. EAA had asked for 90-day extension, but was nonetheless pleased with TSA’s prompt action.

Many aircraft used for skydiving, for example Twin Otters, DC3s, Skyvans, etc, fall into this category, and the restrictions will apply to jumpers.
Please consider making a comment using one of the methods explained above.

  8. Anyone here have mad logo-polishing skillz? I made something in Paint, and now I need to clean it up, but have no software at my disposal. It's super simple and will take you no time at all.

    Puh-leeeeze?

  9. I keep getting messed up and confused when I'm scheduling appointments with people lately, and I finally realized why. I thought I was going crazy. I'm happy to report that it's not me who's crazy, it's the fine people of Perris Valley Skydiving!

My Perris calender has an extra day--November 31st! All the dates in December are off by one day of the week. (Hey, at least it was good for the first 11 months, though. And I can't really complain--it was free, after all.)

  10. Lots of good suggestions, guys! Some of the names are already taken--here's the official roster: http://www.twoevils.org/rollergirls/. Ilsa, ThunderKitten, and Chop Suzy are all girls on our league, so I definitely can't use anything similar to those. :)

  11. Hey guys! Sorry I seem to only come crawling back to dz.com these days when I need something, but I know if anyone can help me with this, it'd be all y'all. :)
I just made the local roller derby league (w00t), and now I need a NAME! I was hoping to come up with something skydiving related, but not so obscure that the general public won't at least sort of get it.

May Day and Kamikaze are both taken. >:( I like Arial Delivery a lot, but it doesn't sound quite mean enough. Or maybe some sort of word play on Stealth Bomber... Stella Bomber or something? Or something else with Arial/aerial? (Arial Assault is already taken, too.)

ok I could only stomach the first 2 minutes of it.

Ditto. I really wanted to hit "stop" 21 seconds in, but I tried to give them the benefit of the doubt. I think I closed the window around 1:40.

Maybe I'll try again later when I have nothing to do with my life. :|

Uh, I'm pretty sure he's planning on it. Chill. :D

Which part of the advice of the 39 jump guy do you disagree with?

I'm not saying I disagree with what he's saying--it's just the whole tone of the conversation that seems silly to me. If it was something I had written with 39 jumps, I would look back to it in a year and realize how little I really understood about the canopy I was flying.

Or maybe I'm just pissed that the guy called me "mom" and then blew me off. :P

This site is obviously more interesting to a 15-jump skydiver.

Unless they're just getting off on "being cool" on MySpace. I don't think this guy is really looking for advice... or if he is, someone should teach him how to use Google. I doubt he'd have much trouble getting here if he was really wanting advice.

It might be a better idea to refer them to http://www.dropzone.com

That way, we can critique them more properly

Well, of course that would be a better idea, but so much less entertaining for me. Besides, I'm pretty sure he's not going to listen to anything I say now. :D

  17. Here.

My favorite part is when the guy with 39 jumps says, "Disclaimer 2: i appologize if my thoughts are incoherent, i was pretty wasted last night and still am lost dazed and confused."

    Sheer awesomeness. :D

  18. There's a dude with 39 jumps giving a dude with 15 jumps advice on downsizing on a MySpace forum. Then when I had the nerve to suggest he talk to his instructor, I got totally blown off. Awesome. I hope these guys stay in the sport long enough to realize how silly the conversation they're having actually sounds. :D
