Very sad news. Doc Doug jumped with us at Couch Freaks every year since the early 1990's. Great guy.

Cedar Falls, Iowa, December 31st, 1999. 4 of us exited a 182 about 10 seconds before midnight. Cold and windy but well worth it. With Don Briggs, Mike Hoy, and Jeff Eaton. Will never forget that one.Doc

I found a 1 minute 16mm skydiving movie on eBay, just uploaded it to you tube
http://youtu.be/sBytVNkowcM
Apparently it was made for the VA. Looks like late 1970's based on the hockey helmets, R2's, belly band pilot chute, and Strato Star.
Anybody recognize any of these guys?
(the movie has music but it was so cheesy that I edited it out)Doc

I'm currently reading Melissa Nelson's book "Sugar Alpha" (manditory read for all skydivers, get it!), my question is: why wasn't it called Sierra Alpha? (N85SA)
Ok, I'm a picky bastard but Sugar?Doc

Unless you go Blu-ray, there's no HD on playable DVDs. You could create an HD mp4 and burn it as a data DVD.
I've been giving tandem customers flash drives with HD video for the past 2 years. Faster, easier, but costs more than a DVD disk. Customers love them and its HD.,Doc

I bought this for my cx-150 for shooting tandems.
Century Precision Optics
DS-55WA-37 0.55x Wide Angle Adapter (37mm)
It'll run you $100 from B&H photo.
If you want to protect it (recommended), for $38 you can get a UV filter (43mm UV Haze 010 F-Pro MRC Filter)
I love B&H photo for buying this stuff. Highly recommended.
Hope this helpsDoc

Yeah the GoPro movement pisses me off because of 20+ years of shooting video/stills with heavy camcorders and film cameras. But times are changing. We're going to have to live with it. The GoPro quality is certainly better than the VHS tapes I used to hand to customers.
As far as still photos go, the customers don't know what they're missing. Its what the market will bear.
I'm not happy with it but welcome to 2012.Doc

We are considering giving tandem customers their video on a usb flash drive instead of a DVD disk, or at least making it an option for them.
8 GB drives are available for under $10. The flash drive can contain an MP4 of their edited video, a folder containing their authored DVD files (ie. VIDEO_TS) so they can burn their own DVDs, a folder with jpegs, and even a folder with raw footage.
We've been debating the pros and cons of doing this. We are considering it at least as an option.
Has any DZ tried this?Doc
