  1. Another thing that was different this time then the other jumps was where I was seated. The other times I was in the front of the plane near the pilot and had a small window to look threw. This weekend it was packed in there and I had to sit on the floor right next to the exit door which is clear. It made for the beat view I have ever seen while on a plane but it worked havoc on my nerves. I tried to push that out of my head and focus on my goals I had set. But I remember looking out that door the entire way up. Then at around 11,000 feet we opened it up and instead of a stand up exit we sat on the edge of the plane an rolled out the door.
  2. I think it could be because of anxiety. Iys weird though. All the way up intill I'm half way out the door I'm completely calm and enjoying the ride. Could it have been the extremely cold air? On the ground it was around 70 but had to be near freezing at jump altitude (11,500 ft) it would have been 14,500 but some cloud cover came in and couldn't make that height.
  3. No jumpsuit. I had long pants and a sweatshirt on (was a cool day so I bundled up a bit more) I know I had my mouth shut bacauise I remember breathing threw my closed teeth.
  4. The 1st time I whent I was 24, I told my dad but not my mom ( divorced ) and my dad was completely supportive but knew my mom would not. So I whent and calles my dad as soon as I could to let him know I was ok. Thay was 2 years ago and just the other day I was talking to my mom about Felix B....(cant spell it off the top of my head) and the jump he made from "space". I was trying to explain what he's going threw and asked me why I was so into it. "Its not like you will ever go yourself" she said. So after a moment to think about my response I said "well now that you mention it I have already gone twice and going again this weekend". I wish I got that on video because the look. On her face was hilarious!
  5. Ok I'm new and I know it. I figured I could have this issue beat by now but I haven't so it time to ask why. This past weekend I made my 3rd jump. Although it was another Tandem (friends party). Starting My AFF in the spring. For most people I know when they whent they just layed there and whent for the ride. For myself I know ill be eventually jumping alone so I took the time to at least set some personal goals for myself. 2 out of three I met. 1st was to be altitude aware and keep an eye on the altimeter. 2nd was proper body position which I believe I did well. 3rd I wasn't so lucky. Everytime I have jumped so far I have a hard time breathing. In the plane I'm fine but not intill I'm out the door do I notice it feels like I'm haveing an asthma attack. (No I don't have asthma) my chest gets tight like the harness just shrunk 2 sizes. I have tried a few different techniques to see what works but nothing really helps. I tried breathing threw my nose without effect and tried threw my mouth which seems to work the best and keeping my head looking to the horizon. I know during a tandem you cant wear a full face helmet but during my AFF could it help? Thanks for the help. I really want to fix this issue before. The spring comes around.
  6. Not sure on canopies yet. I have no idea where to start. I'm 6'4 225lbs if that helps. Also set the date. October 20 for my last tandem of the year. If the weather sucks it will be the 27th
  7. Sounds good. I think ill go with a new rig just for the comfort of it. I know its hard to compare but qhen I did my tandems the harness was a bit uncomfortable and when he qhent into a downward spin all the Gs were killing my inner thigh. I talked to him after we landed and said that a harness that is made for someone my size would be a million times more comfortable then one that is roughly the correct size. And besides saftey I want to be as comfortable as possible.
  8. Thanks for the info. I'm just trying to get a rough estimate on the cost of it all. I also feel a little uneasy with purchaseing used gear. I rather spend the extra money for new stuff then used stuff. Plus like you mentiond gear my size is gona be hard to find used anyway.
  9. Hello everyone. I'm new here and to the sport. Im currently looking at rigs and trying to find what stuff will fit me. Im a complete novice to this so I apologize before hand if I don't understand some terms. I spent most of my life under the hood of race cars so when it comes to that I can help anyone out but I know when to ask for help so here I am. If it helps I'm 6'4 225lbs and in fairly good physical shape. Last night I was looking at the Mirage RTS rig wich is stated as a novice / student skydiver. Is that a good place to start? I didn't get much farter then that because I wasn't sure what size canopy I needed and so on. Thanks again for the help.
  10. Thanks. I spent some time last night looking for rigs and trying to find out what size canopy I need. I was looking at the Mirage RTS because it was described as a novice/student rig and the price looked good to me.
  11. Thanks guys. I didn't know FFA had a facebook page, ill have to look them up. Yes. Jumping would be a lot cheaper in the long run but I just love to turn wrenches and build faster and faster cars. Nothing like blowing by Lambos and Turbo Porches and the look of shear amazement, lol. I don't want to start my AFF jumps now because of it getting colded and.colder out so I'm gona wait till the spring. But I do want to make another tandem jump with my GF before the seasonis over.
  12. Hello everyone, I'm CJ and new to the site an the sport. I live in south New Jersey and local to Freefall Adventures D.Z. located in Cross Keys NJ. So far I have 2 Tandem jumps but allways wanting to go more when money permits. I might as well explain why I want to get involved in skydiving and it started when I was a kid. I used to make parachutes for my G.I. joes as a kid and would climb the highest tree I could find and throw them from the top. After that I became more and more intrested to the point my family nicknamed me "bird" because all I wanted to do was fly like a bird. I then got into drag racing and spent many, MANY years and thousands of dollars building fast mustangs (hence my user name). But I allways wanted to get into skydiving now that I'm older and fairly content with the condition and looks of my car Im makeing a real step to get into this. So far I jave only made 2 tandem jumps but cant wait to make more.
