For some reason, I end up checking the door locks about 6 or 7 times right before I go to bed. And then, if I get up during the night for any reason, I check them again.

    Nor sure if that's a phobia or a superstition......maybe just O/C behavior.

    Don

That's actually a result of your fear-mongering news stations and government.

***Why not use or have an RSL connected?

Because it wasn't cool or considered necessary, because other experienced jumpers didn't use RSL's.
Because for old timers, RSL's were something optional, that gear didn't have unless you special ordered it.
Because you used to be expected to pull both handles yourself or die, and accepted that.
Because you believed you should try to deploy parachutes when stable for the best results.
Because you want the choice of either pulling the reserve immediately, or taking a delay to get more stable.

Right on the $$$. False pride and over confidence, 2 big killers. I feel most people should use an RSL. I heard one very experienced, very high performance jumper stating all wingsuiters should use RSL's. I was surprised but pleased. There's a lot of dead jumpers that would have been saved by an RSL.

Want to be stable when your reserve deploys? Try putting your feet on your butt and arching when you chop. Not many people do. [:/]

That's a very good point John. Nobody ever taught me that, I read that here on DZ.com. Luckily when I did my first cutaway it was almost instinct and allowed for a perfect on heading opening of the reserve following a spinning line-twist malfunction.

    Worst part of skydiving!
Been involved in two canopy entanglements. One of the cut-a-ways was below 500 feet......FUCK!!
    Stay away from my canopy.

***I'm going to assume that any reserve on the market will open when called upon (otherwise it wouldn't be on the market).

You need to do some research. Your comment speaks volume on your lack of knowledge.I will get bashed (and will not reply) but they do not all open the same. Some canopies will snivel and there is your hint. Also, I am a PD fan, just disagree with some canopy performance characteristics.

    Edited for grammer

    LOL, Clearly not.

  6. I picked up a 50$ tent and an 18$ air mattress at Walmart and camped out for 2 weeks for a total of 5$ a day.

Slept like a baby every night. -> Woke up -> Took shower -> Jumped -> Repeat

Had an amazing time and I will definitely be going back each New Year :)

  7. I've bungee jumped a total of 3 times. They are completely different from one another. Each and every time I get the feeling of

"What on earth is possessing me to do this."
    "Why am I here"
    "Don't do it"

I absolutely love that feeling.. Don't get that anymore on a skydive.

  9. It's only 8,000$, I don't understand why everyone makes such a big deal about it! Just buy your own rig for AFF, don't listen to everyone else... They're just jealous that they didn't buy a Nav240 as their first canopy.

Read some of the other threads. But, yes all of the above.

Any one have a link to the wings video. I'm not smart enough to find it.

Talking about the one where he grabbed the reserve pilot chute bridle while on his back and pulled it out?

I could find that for you, hold on

Okay I've heard the weight thing a few times. Ugh, just wanted to fly my body instead. No worries.

I was sort of leaning toward not getting a jumpsuit, but right now I wear a cotton long sleeve & thick, denim capris so I was wondering if the material made a difference. Heavier material than a jumpsuit I would get, but less area of material.

Thanks for the link. What's a great starting point for lead weight? I don't want to fly/land like a bat out of hell B| THANKS ALL!

Just keep in mind that adding lead will not only increase your freefall speed but your wingloading as well. So you need to feel comfortable with that increase in wingloading. Start with 6lb and increase in small increments as required/capable.:)

Yeah, I've seen that guy before. He's honest about it, but that still doesn't justify selling a harmful product.

Wrong. Being this honest and transparent, the sole responsibility lies with the consumer.

***Never jumped before but for some reason cant stop thinking about it. Every time I do I get butterflies and sweaty palms and I haven't even seen the door yet. Is this normal?

Of course you can't stop thinking about it. This is going to change your life forever. You will never see the world the same way again. Your new perspective will guide you for the rest of your life if you allow it to, and very much for the better.

An old friend of mine and a skydiver for 40+ years always says when asked by newcomers about the butterflies in the stomach that we never stop getting them, we just teach them to fly in formation. I think that's true.

In AFF, you have chosen the most challenging and rewarding of all first jump options. You and 2 highly skilled instructors jumping as a team! Yes you will be nervous. You will probably question your decision - hell even your sanity. My advice to you is to focus and trust your training, your instructors, your gear, and yourself.

When - not if - that door seems insurmountable, remember this. The jump you will make this Saturday will change you. It will change everything about you, everything you thought you were made of, and very possibly everything you want for your future.

Go fly, and never look back!! And be sure to let us know how it goes.

    Very well said! +1051296572:)

  15. This summer I went to Parachutisme Atmosphair in Quebec and while there I saw a gentleman that appeared to be paralyzed from the waist down doing some formation skydiving jumps. Did not get a chance to talk to him, but I was pretty amazed, even his landings were smooth! I also saw the same gentleman at the Canadian National Indoor Skydiving Championships earlier this year. He was competing in the intermediate category with his team! (I believe they won gold).

Wish I could have had a conversation with him; don't even know his name!

  16. HAHAHA thank you:D

    you're exit was very nice!

but you're attempted back flip (I think?) was hilarious!!!

You'll want to give yourself more momentum next time, pull your legs in to your chest and bring your arms in across your chest as you through your head back (your body will follow) all that in one fluid motion.:)
