  1. I sent a Rig to a Rigging Workshop for repair, and paid for delivery with insurance using the courier UK Mail. UK Mail then lost the parcel. They admitted that they lost it, but they said they would not pay out for it. There was no chance to win against them in court, as they had clauses in their terms and conditions in small print to get out of paying up. After that, the Rigging Workshop paid me £3000 as a gift even though they had nothing to do with it going missing, because they said "We like to keep our customers happy". Beside my Rig, a few weeks later, UK Mail lost another Parachute, and same again, UK Mail managed to get away with not paying out the insurance.

Container except sign is whole black, in decent condition, a-e flap and whole harness have been replaced with brand new legpads. Main Stiletto 170 in very good condition, reserve Raven 1 is from July 98 with no rides

  2. I think sport and hobby has some influence, for example all these boxers and fighters they are often fighters also in private life, they hate each other before and after ring.
Of course there are plenty assholes but in my opinion skydivers are much more friendly, with temperament and fantasy, this is what I like.
If I would have to say why I don't like, I think skydiving sometimes makes people proud. I know many jumpers they are so dumb that talk only with "great jumpers" and all the rest they treat like shit

  3. Ok but today some smartphones have barometer and GPS working together.

    http://www.popsci.com/gadgets/article/2011-10/so-um-why-does-new-google-phone-have-barometer-it

So for smartphones it's not dangerous and they have it upside down

"the barometer is more likely than not intended to be a source of supplemental data for the GPS sensor, adding altitude measurements for increased accuracy"

There are even apps for skydivers, I think it's just for fun and we shouldn't take it seriously.

    https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.platypii.baseline

I guess it also depend what software you have. Sometimes when I'm working in metal container and only one window is open my smartphone shows with mistake that I'm about 200 m somewhere else. I think it's because it has only one shoot from one satelite. For 2-D satnav we don't need many satelites because they also know that earth has spherical shape. Of course for jumps in the mountains that's not enough and we need more satelites and also some better offset from terrain databese. I'm not expert but I thouhgt about software that would turn on it self only if it has good shoot from few satelites together. I think it's not pain if we could see 2 informations one from barometer and one from GPS. But the main question is about sizes, costs and all the rest

  4. I don't know how about your altimeters but my is painted like that:

    http://www.parasport.it/index.php?main_page=popup_image&pID=92

    So it's possible to pull even between 1500 - 1200 m

I've been told one day that rules have been written with human's blood. I guess somebody knew why to paint that altimeter in this way. We deploy main in stable position and I think if it's last chance its good to pull reserve stable.

That's true reserves are more reliable with openings but it's extra gift from manufacturer not the reason why to pull too low and later think how to help ourselves

  5. For us today:
    - maybe he deployed too low (lets say 2 s),
    - definitely he was fighting too long with line twist instead of cutting away quicker ( lets say another 2s) ,
    - and maybe he didn't train before how to get stable quicker ( after 10 jumps + tunel lets say another 2 s)
(But he saved both handles :P)

So we have easy 6 seconds = about 1000 feet

I would also take AAD and I wouldn't ignore my audible altimeter

    That's my choice

  6. I would rather say that sometimes people with RSL do RSL campaign, I even saw some special pictures on facebook. I don't like it because as I said before I know about fatalities with RSL + camera. My opinion was just it will be good to not write with 2 meanings and its better for students if they will understand situation and all what is for and what is against and later they can make some choice.
Beside that I know experienced jumpers without RSL

  7. I don't do any anti RSL campaign here. In my first post I just said its not good if we write with 2 meanings because not everybody understand and also why I don't use RSL. If its stupid shit what I say for you, do what you want you can pull your reserve in unstable position but I'll pull in unstable position only if its too low.

Of corse if it's too low I will pull reserve even in unstable position

And now you say that everbody without RSL are stupid, for me it's just free choice

  8. O course I understand that you need to have above 35 m/s to activate your AAD so if you cutaway too low it doesnt work. Cliff Schmucker (VIP from Airtec) checked that we can't cutaway lower than 1000 feet (for Cypres Expert)

Statistic say they might be helpful in most cases but we don't know which part of these cases we can have. RSL doenst leave any choice. Sometimes is better with RSL

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xeO4uY8uruQ

    but sometimes is dangerous

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4tF6iXI70-Y#t=53

In my opinion there is really no point to deploy low. I don't care if somebody will say that I'm pussy. If you like free falling you can jump twice instead. I know about guy with 25 000 jumps on Sabre without cuttingaway and he doesn't care that somebody will call him pussy because of Sabre and for me it's also not shame to deploy higher.

A live dog is better off than a dead lion

With canopy collision at 1000 feet RSL might help but reserve handle might help as well. I agree sometimes only skyhook can help you

I'm not writing about my experience even if I would have better because it shouldn't make my arguments stronger or weaker.

Another question, how many of you doesn't jump with camera?

  9. As Chuckakers said many people died because they were catching stable position too long.

RSL was designed for students. With bigger canopies like Navigator line twits are not so aggresive so usually it's not so dangerous to deploy reserve straight after cuting away. I think statistics dont say that with RSL is better but "RSL or AAD" I prefer just AAD that will pull my reserve in last moment, but it's just my choice.

Even if statistics say its better it doesnt mean that it's better for every particular case. I don't want to advise you anything. Ask your instructor.

Here is another unstable reserve deployment

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jkLqTbDHgtg

If my kids will want to jump (I won't be happy about it) I'll send to wind tunel for at least one hour and he will twist hisself in every posiible way then he can go and jump

For me stability is a bigger priority than altitude after chopping but only until is not too low. That's why I have AAD

One more thing, that's true, that position with head up straight after cuting away is usualy not too bad to pull reserve but not always, that's why I prefer to do it myself and keep that choice for me not RSL that does it automaticaly

  10. I don't have time for all these statistics, I know sometimes it make sense but it depends what jump and what canopy. I'll tell you just one example. Last year fatality in Poland. He had 1800 jumps, instructor. After cutting away with RSL his reserve was entangled in camera.

You can see something similar here

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nRYa_pXJ_p4

comments to these video are also interesting, one of them:

jj85883: "I've been in the sport 22 years and have about 20 cutaways in 6000 jumps, and some cutaways way down in the basement, and I dont know the man's qualification, but i never deploy a reserve unstable like he did. Seen a couple of jumpers get killed doing that."

I forgot to tell you I have also AAD in my algorithm for the case if I would try to get stable too long, audible altimeter and I know... you're right, sometimes is not easy when everybody go too low, but I read somewhere now more experienced jumpers like to deploy higher

  11. Not everybody understad if we write with 2 meanings. There are plenty jumpers they just jump without any understanding and education. Few weeks ago I met one experienced wingsuit pilot and base jumper, one of those that fly few meters above the ground and I had to tell him why RSL is sometimes dangerous. First time he heard about it. Few days ago I was laughing because ffriend of mine didn't know that is easier to have malfunction with eliptical canopies.

Beside that don't forget about students because they also read this forum and if you say something with your experience for them is holy.

I don't like RSL because I like my universal algorithm. If you have malfunction with hard spining it always works

    1. Higher deployment.
    2. Time to get stable
    3. Reserve in stable position

but RSL doesnt ask you how hard is your line twist or what is your body position

Another problem in my opinion is bad association in the air. If everybody go lower we go lower as well, there is no time to stabilise and that's why RSL is sometimes better. and also not always people are trained how to get stable quickly after cutting away. It would be good to spend some time in tunel and learn it instead of worthless things
