  5. Every summer on the last Saturday in July, jumpers from all over New England (and elsewhere), come to Plum Island Beach in Newburyport, MA for a day of jumping, barbecuing, and fun on the beach. This year the boogie is 7/31 with a weather day of Sunday 8/1. Permit times are 9am - 6pm. Shuttles are provided to and from Plum Island Airfield (approx 1.5 miles away). Jumps are out of 182(s) from 5K or so; D-license required; water gear strongly recommended. Come join us for some fun in the sun!
  6. C'mon folks.... Jumpers still needed for 100-ways at Pepperell...especially women! Check the website for more details. Blooz!
  7. You are correct. There is a SkyVenture wind tunnel going up in Nashua, NH. Construction to start in the fall; expected opening Jan '05. Closest DZ will be Pepperell (< 10 mins) Stay tuned...
  8. Skydive Pepperell will be hosting an innovative 100 way series in August that will coincide with their annual boogie. See the website for more details: http://fusion100.skyjump.com/ If you would like to be a part of this event, please call the DZ at 1-800-SKYJUMP. Blooz!
  9. Update 8/30/03: 35 people are now manifested this unique opportunity. There are only a few slots left...reserve yours before it's gone! Blue Skies, Skydive Pepperell 1-800-SKY-JUMP www.skyjump.com [email protected]
  10. YEEE-HAAA! It's here!!! Weather looks good! C'mon and party! Elf
  11. Believe it! There is NO registration fee, and the last time I looked Load 3 was full and Load 4 was manifesting...that's 27+ people and counting. The $400 ticket price is what the Collings Foundation set to cover their expenses. A B-17 is hugely expensive to fly, on the order of $4000-$5000 per hour. The cost has most likely gone up since that article was written, and it also depends on where they got the plane. Bottom line is..you get to jump out of a piece of history. No hidden fees, costs, extras, whatever. The price is what it is. Elf
  12. Some more info: The B17 will be loading and launching out of Boire Field (ASH) in Nashua, NH which is approx 7-8 miles northwest of the DZ. Landings will be at the DZ in Massachusetts. As for altitude...the operator's said that "whatever altitude the plane can get to in 15 mins" is where the jumps will be. How high that is, I couldn't tell you. The $400 jump price is a FULLY TAX DEDUCTIBLE donation to the Collings Foundation (the owner/operator of the plane). These jumps are being offered AT COST...Pepperell is not making any money whatsoever on the jumps. They had the chance to offer these unique jumps...so they're doing it. Kudos to Fran & Paula for arranging this! I've heard that the the plane costs $5000 per hour to operate, which explains the high cost of the ticket.
  13. Yes, that’s right a B-17 bomber! Skydive Pepperell is making arrangements for jumpers to jump this special aircraft on September 22 and 23rd. 9 jumpers per load to whatever altitude the plane can get in 15 minutes. Load 1 is already manifesting. If you want to participate you must reserve your slot on the plane. The price of your jump must be paid up front and there will be no refunds if you back out. If the jumps are canceled for weather or airplane problems you will get a full refund. The price is $400 per person. Skydive Pepperell is not charging anything above what the plane’s owners are charging for you to jump this classic of aviation history. “The Flying Fortess is a 4 engine US bomber used in WWII. It carried at least two pilots, one navigator, six gunners, one bombardier, and a radioman. It dropped bombs via a bomb bay just aft of the cockpit.” We will be exiting from the bomb bay. Climb down until you get one foot on rails on either side of the bay, and then pull your feet together and drop straight down with your arms crossed. As you can well imagine this is a very rare opportunity. We will be using the same one that they had at WWFC last year. To find out what it is like by reading this article on dropzone.com about the B-17 at Quincy: http://www.dropzone.com/columns/B17atQuincy.shtml To reserve a slot please e-mail me. Your name will be added to the list. We need at least one load to make this happen. The price of your slot is due within 1 week of the time you reserve it – no exceptions – slots are strictly FIRST COME FIRST SERVED. Cash or checks only. If you must use a credit card you will be charged the credit card surcharge of 3% that we pay to process them. Skydive Pepperell 1-800-SKY-JUMP www.skyjump.com

The dates again are August 20-August 24 and information on the boogie can be found below the hotel information. The Holiday Inn which is the closest hotel with a restaurant, bar and pool is offering a skydiver rate. Be sure to tell them when you call you are with Skydive Pepperell. ***Holiday Inn $65 per night (pool, bar, restaurant) – the bar (Kilarneys Pub) here is small but on weekends they usually have some good music and it is a fun place – 6 miles - 603-888-1551 Comfort Inn - pool, restaurant and bar – would match the above rate only if 10+ rooms are booked – rooms are normally $80 – 8 miles - 603-883-7700 Country Barn Hotel – no amenities (no pool, no bar, no restaurant) but if you just want to sleep it is the cheapest - $49 per night – 3-4 miles- 603-883-7924 Motel 6 - $56 per night on weekdays and $62 per night weekends – this place keeps going up on their rates and it has a pool but no bar or restaurant – given that the rate at Holiday Inn is only a few bucks and only 1 mile more with a lot more to offer I’d go to the Holiday Inn - 5 miles - 603-889-4151 If you want to stay at the more upscale places we have: Crowne Plaza: 603-886-1200 - $119 per night – 8 miles – pool, 2 restaurants, bar Mariott : 603-880-9100 - $79 per night – pool, restaurant, bar Sheraton : 603-888-9970 - $119 – 9 miles – pool, restaurant, bar Of these the Crowne Plaza offers a nicer restaurant and bar – they have the best steak house in town but it is pricey to eat there.

One of the most recognizable WWII trainers ever built the PT-17 Stearman "Kaydet" flies on into the 21st Century. Designed originally as the Model 70 by Lloyd Stearman, the design was adopted by Boeing after it bought the Stearman Co. The Kaydet trained many of the aviators of WWII in their early days as pilots and soldiered on after the war as a popular recreational and agricultural aircraft. To book a ride on the Stearman please e-mail us or call the manifest office and let them know which day you would like – Friday, Saturday or Sunday. Tentative plans include adding a T6. The North American AT-6 Texan won wide acclaim as one of the most used advanced trainers not only during WWII but also beyond. Our AT-6F Texan is a perfect example of this post WWII use as it is restored as and is painted in the colors of the Korean War "Mosquito", a low-level support and target identifier aircraft used to support the faster jets of the period.
