    The Buffet Rule

...More than two-thirds of Americans believe the revenue system benefits the wealthy while being unfair to average workers, according to a new CNN/ORC poll. There is a distinct political divide in how Americans view the tax system. (Reuters) Released today, the morning after a vote in the US Senate failed to attract enough support to pass a rule that would guarantee millionaires and billionaires pay at least as much in taxes as those in the middle class -- the so-called "Buffett Rule" -- the poll revealed that "68% of respondents said the current tax system benefits the rich and is unfair to ordinary workers, compared with 29% who disagreed with that view."...
  2. ...A very disturbing story from the Daily News this week: several NYPD detectives allege that three high-ranking members of an elite unit within the department used racial slurs against Black people and called them "animals," while white suspects got easier treatment...
  3. But the riots weren't about racist coppers. It might have taken that seriously if they were targetted at the police, and I think some of the early protests were against racist police violence, but by the time your beloved freedom fighters were running Pakistanis (?) over with their cars, and kicking the retired to pulp it wasn't about that anymore. That's what happens in riots. They get out of control. That's why the police shouldn't spark them off. It was racist police shooting a black guy the last time. The next time?
  4. ...The police officer who was recorded on a mobile phone allegedly racially abusing a black suspect inside a van has been charged – reversing an earlier decision in which prosecutors decided he should not face charges. Metropolitan police constable Alex MacFarlane was recorded allegedly making the comments to a suspect arrested days after the riots last summer. The suspect, Mauro Demetrio, 21, used his mobile phone to record the encounter. In January the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) initially decided not to bring criminal charges against MacFarlane or another police officer who Demetrio alleged strangled him in the back of a police van. Last month the CPS agreed to review its decision after being threatened with legal action by Demetrio's lawyer, Michael Oswald...
  5. Are you equating the word "urban" with black? Welfare dependent" equals black? That's what this guy is saying. Of course most won't come out with such obvious racism - they'll hide it a little better. Nice, and typical dodge. I asked YOU the question...not your interpretations of what others say. I'll rephrase it to simplify: Do YOU equate "urban" and "Welfare dependent" as being a reference strictly to the black population? That's what this guy appears to be saying. Let's see what the investigation says.
  6. ...A separate analysis, based on Home Office data, reveals that less than 0.5% of section 60 searches led to an arrest for possession of a dangerous weapon, five times fewer than a decade ago. Dr Michael Shiner, of the campaign group StopWatch and the Mannheim Centre for Criminology at the LSE, said: "More than ever, we need policing to be fair and accountable. All too often impacted communities have complained about abusive police tactics only to be ignored or, worse still, told they are wrong. Searches that do not require individual suspicion are particularly divisive and should be conducted sparingly, if at all. "The very existence of section 60 should be critically reviewed and, if it is found to be necessary, increased safeguards and strict criteria should be put in place, including judicial authorisation, before the power can be mobilised." On Friday, the IPCC conceded that stop and searches that yield no arrest were antagonistic and "highly intrusive"...
  7. MLK is rolling in his grave these days. What a wasted life. Ditto Jesus then.
  8. Racism isn't love - and needs to be rooted out for love to Flower. Kill it with kindness brother... You turn the other cheek. Others will do the real work for you. If you choose to die off along with the hate, that is your decision... We all die. At least I'll have my grip on hate's throat. You'll have a grip on your own throat. I'll have a grip on my own humanity. Your humanity obviously wants to live by hate....that's your choice. I offer another...

  10. Of course it is. And when these innocent black folks get stopped for no reason, searched for no reason, racially abused and roughed up a bit they get upset - as you would living in your little white bubble if blacks were to keep coming up to you and stopping you in the street. The next riots will come as a complete surprise to you won't they? It would be racism if the crime figures between whites and blacks were roughly equal compared to the population but they aren't. Of course they're equal - blacks are no more criminal than whites. The difference is you pick out a few figures and then use these as an excuse for the racist actions of the police.

  13. Being black with attitude. The metropolitan police don't like that. They're going to stop you, search you, laugh at you and racially abuse you. Because you're black being an arse. So you're saying that blacks are arses. OK.

  15. No, there will always be lowlifes that need free flatscreen televisions so bad, that they'll use any excuse to get them. And there'll always be lowlife police stirring up trouble with their racist actions.

  17. ...The police watchdog has announced a review into mounting complaints about racism in the Metropolitan police, warning that they probably suggest a "much wider disaffection and dissatisfaction" with the force. The Independent Police Complaints Commission also launched two new investigations into alleged racist abuse by Met officers and said it would "increase its level of scrutiny" of how Scotland Yard handles complaints about discrimination. Senior officials at the IPCC are known to be concerned that the Met may have failed to shake its problem with racism 13 years after it was branded institutionally racist by the Macpherson inquiry set up following the death of Stephen Lawrence. The IPCC said it now has five ongoing investigations into alleged racism at the Met. Six others are being dealt with by the force internally, mainly because the investigations are almost complete. The watchdog said its new review would sample old and ongoing complaints about racism to assess whether the Met was dealing appropriately with reports of discrimination...

    The Buffet Rule

...The figures show that almost a thousand UK taxpayers earning over £1m a year are paying less than 30 per cent of their income in tax, while 12 of the 200 taxpayers earning over £10m are paying less than 10 per cent in tax...
  22. ...The Miami-Dade Fire and Rescue Department opened an investigation into a racist post on one of its captains’ Facebook page. According to The Grio, Brian Beckmann, a captain in the Miami-Dade fire department, posted a rant on his Facebook page suggesting that Trayvon Martin shooter George Zimmerman was unjustly accused and that Martin’s killing can be blamed upon poor parenting by “urban” parents who are “welfare dependent”...
  23. Clearly not. As I have already stated. But that's what's happening in reality. A black person (not a robber) will get stopped and searched many, many times more than a white person. During that stop they will be abused and expected not to answer back. You seem to be quite happy with that. If white folks were stopped and searched at a similar rate (and they are just as criminal as anyone else) they would be up in arms. Or rioting.
  24. On soft grass. Not on concrete.
  25. If the scenario I proposed was what happened, SYG is not applicable, since it he would have been initiating the attack. Being followed is not the same as being attacked. Trayvon ran. Zimmerman ran after him. That's not being followed - that's being pursued. At which point Martin stood his ground.
