  2. This video is at least 2 years old, possibly older. I saw this video on a S&TAs laptop at an east coast DZ. although I'm confident I didn't see the original, I did see a full version of this. They didn't want to share much about this incident other than his ratings were pulled, he was fired and was facing criminal charges. I am not aware of the above results.

    There was a fear of this reaching the Internet however, but since it has it would seem appropriate this TI name should be released, arm DZs with enough knowledge of this incident to curb any other potential anxieties this may cause.

  4. Might be best to let your rigger show you how to do this in person. He/she should do it for free or a beer.:)

  11. It is the 1800's and a man picks his new mail ordered bride up from the international pier. This man is clearly wealthy as he owns one of the nicest horse and carriages around. He escorts his newly arrived wife onto to the carriage and off they return to his quarters. The man is obviously impatient and whips the horse more than normal. Immediately, the horse veers slightly to the right and leads the carriage into a small pothole knocking the wife to the floorboards of the carriage. The man stops the carriage and gets down to within inches of the horses face and whispers something into the horse ear. Afterwards, in a normal voice the man says to the horse, "That’s 1". The wife asked the man what he had said to the horse and he pretended that it wasn't worth repeating. A few minutes later, the horse let out a little fart, enough to disturb the wife. The man gets off the horse, whispers something into the horses ear again and in a normal voice says "that’s 2". He gets back on the carriage and now she is very concerned and is almost desperate in wonder what the man could have said to this horse. Finally, the horse kicks up a little mud onto the wife and the man stops the carriage, gets next to the horse and shoots him in the head killing the horse instantly. The wife is completely freaked out and says "why did you shoot the horse, how are we supposed to get home now?????". The man looks at her and says "That’s 1".

    You almost nailed it. Walk into the bar with all your clothes except for your pants and order a round of beers. Make some sort of comment about not being able to find your wallet and pay by card. The bartender should call all her friends. Unfortunately for me everytime I try this, the bartenders friends are always cops.;)

    Being the new guy and trying to jump with others is like 2nd grade again. You have to throw your fear of being rejected out. (hi, my name is blah. I'm from blah and this is my first time bere. I'm here by myself and looking a some fun jumpers to blah.) who cares if you get rejected, if you do move onto the next group of jumpers.

    I live overseas and am not organic to any specific DZ, however every place I go someone has always asked if I wanted to participate. Smiles, eye contact and intentionally trying to meet everyone there goes a long ways. Ask me for my name instead of calling me hey,guy,buddy,dude,pal or whatever. Associate them as human beings and lets go jump.


    If all else fails, the no pants thing might work.;)

    Let's say that someone invents a magic safety device for automobiles, say, something that would envelope your entire body in a giant airbag inside an eggshell, and retract all protruding objects like the steering wheel, and it would do all this in a fraction of a second just an instant before an impending impact with an object.     And what about all the people who can't afford that kind of expenditure, because they just don't have that amount of disposable income - should they be called "foolhardy" for not buying one of these magic safety devices?


    We all accept a certain level of risk. When we can no longer find the reward over risk in any given situation, rational people stop such actions. Your limit may be higher or lower than mine and frankly I don’t care. I see my Cypres as last chance scenario (to cut my closing loop) when for some unknown reason I cannot pull for myself. We have had a mid-air collision recently, and if said diver had an AAD in his backup rig, he may still be here today.

    I got it, I’m a new jumper and don’t know anything. Just got my B license this month, still practice my EPs up to altitude, still pull at or above 4K, practice all my canopy drills after every opening and still fly a canopy >200 Sqft. I consider my Cypres2 to be seatbelt, ejection seat or whatever you want to associate it as. I fully understand its capabilities and limitations and am probably one of the few who actually read the instruction manual from cover to cover a few times. (Hopefully not the case)

    To answer your question, if my AAD failed on the ground or was stolen no I wouldn’t jump or drive your proverbial car. Yes my life is worth $4.50 per day, isn’t yours? If you or someone else cannot afford an AAD you have go back to the top of my thread and determine what level of risk you can accept. I would not call anyone “foolhardy” for not buying your “magic safety device”. :)

  16. I voted for and support a BSR however you can't educate through regulations. If people want to get around another rule they will. Bottom line is you cannot stop natural selection by enforcing non-enforcable rules, nor would I want too.

    Does anyone have the data regarding canopy incidents vs. license holders for the last 5 years? I would suspect that our primary offenders are D-license holders > 500 + jumps.

  21. Found this video today. Does anyone know the facts of this incident and any recommendations on how to prevent such a near miss as this?

    From the video, I would guess the parties involved were not exercising situational awareness and didn't discuss their pull altitudes nor their direction of track. I'm obviously new at this sport and don't want to become another statistic or the subject of a thread here. Any information or advice would be greatly appreciated.
