  1. Howdy,
Wifey (she's awesome) just got her tax return = $ and so we're adventure bound in a couple hours. Looking for a DZ within 800 miles of NY so that we can jump Sat and Sun before driving back through Sunday night to be back for Monday.

I'm combing through DZs that fit the bill but thought maybe asking would be easier.

    Anybody got tips?

    It'd be much appreciated.

    Yours in excited jumping love,
    B

  2. I apologize in advance because of similar threads that have already been posted but I had a question.

Is Parachuting: the Skydiver's Handbook too intro for someone with 200 jumps?

Context: I'm in West Africa (Ghana) for another couple weeks (no dzs) and am looking for a good technical knowledge based skydiving book to read.

I was really stoked on the Parachute and its Pilot but there's no kindle or PDF available for purchase (unfortunately a requirement because of West Africa). I reread the SIM and even the PIMs.

If anyone knew whether or not Parachuting would be too intro? And if so if there was another good kindle or pdf jumping that they could recommend it would be really appreciated :)

Blue skies (unless you're a poor farmer in which case blue skies can be deadly)

  3. Hey all,
I'm pretty out of the jumping loop so I thought I'd ask, which are the big boogies in the US worth hitting up?

Ideally, we'd hit them all up I'm sure but is there like a Burning Man of boogies? And if not what are some of the big ones that a guy wouldn't want to miss?

    Thanks :)

  4. Hey sir,
I JUST came back from a 7 year+ break. I called a couple places and what they said would be needed depended heavily on dzs.

In the end, I needed to do an emergency procedures review and a checkout jump and then was good to go. I read a bunch of the SIM and had someone babystep me through all the gear and packing stuff for my own benefit too - 7 years is a long time man!

I'd echo the part about riding a bike to an extent though. The flying came back pretty quickly, though I am still very new to the sport.

    Welcome back :)

  5. It's a friday night and you and your pilot decide to find some stuffed animals, make them garbage bag parachutes, and then break into buildings to get onto the roof to throw them off and get pics of base jumping stuffed animals with no real purpose other than just seeing something flying a parachute :) Nine years ago already...

Y'all seen the older "you know you're a skydiver when" threads? Some are epic. Ie when you're so drunk the room starts to spin :)

  6. You eat canned tuna (any canned food in general really) and think mmmmm, tastes like skydiving :)
You realize switching to instant coffee, though while disgusting, will let you get an extra 1.5 jumps in a month.

You're doing field research in rural west Africa for the summer, can't stop thinking about jumping, and vow never to do any more field work this far away from a dz ever again... $#!@
