  1. You might not understand it at this point, but your kind of attitude is what gets people killed. I'm not saying you will get someone killed, and you will probably end up getting away with most of the stuff you are doing now. What I am saying is you don't fully realize the risk you are putting yourself and others in when you do these kinds of things. Hopefully your skydiving career will continue without incident and you will look back and think about how lucky you were.

I do agree with your point. However, people who are skiing/boarding on a black diamond run are already assuming a certain amount of risk just by being there... It's not like I'm swooping into a crowded fairground where the bystandards had no intention of assuming any risk by being there. People are killed all the time by being hit by someone speeding down a run without a canopy.

People assume a certain amount of risk when they cross a street too, it doesn't make it okay for you to ignore all traffic signs and stoplights because you are an EXPERT DRIVER and hey they assumed the risk!

I just hope you don't take anyone else out with you.

I just got a PM from an instructor from Skydance who apparently doesn't understand the concept of satire or sarcasm so I just wanted to clear up that this was a parody thread and NOT based on any actual events and no, skydance is not allowing their students to jump with camera helmets :D

Just think, this guy has responsibility over students lives and cannot detect blatant sarcasm.

You're too fat to skydive, and in denial about it. You're not going to "show us" by trying to skydive at your weight, you're going to "get hurt" or "die" or "get someone killed". If money really isn't an object for you, hire someone to kick your ass into shape for a year and make some healthy lifestyle changes.

I don't think they are unimportant, but I don't believe they tell the whole story. However, a blank profile yields no information whatsoever.

Why have you not completed yours? If nothing else it may add to your credibility (or not, probably, in my case).

In a way you are absolutely right. I am arguing from my experience of actually witnessing a guy swoop into a spool because of his rapid downsizing and attitude that other people should be careful about their downsizing choices. Other people are arguing from their experience of seeing people downsize "rapidly" and flying successfully that jump numbers do not necessarily matter.

I am also, in a way, jealous because I want to be flying an aggressive canopy currently but do not feel like I have the ability to do so safely. Fear of injury based on my experience outweighs my desire to downsize rapidly.

Edit: I'm also not in the mood to die anytime soon, and the news on the street is we get a lot of fatalities in this sport from people doing stupid shit under good canopies.

Look I'm not trying to justify my wing loading. I'm just tired of hearing people bitch about before the even see me fly it.

So you realize that the guy that swooped into a spool (the guy caused this thread) had the exact same mindset and attitude that you do, right? What exactly is the harm in listening to what experienced people are telling you and chilling out on your downsizing? Are you actually aware of the potential consequences of your actions not just to yourself but others?

Just because someone says they did it a particular way and it worked does not mean it is the right way for you in that moment or even in general.

This is precisely why I want to know what many people have done in many situations, rather than just taking the advice of one person, particularly in reaction to a specific incident.

So you're saying you want anecdotal evidence instead of objective truth. Okay.

Right, which is why in my original post I asked people to avoid the "which one is better" argument. I'm looking for actual stories of "I used one hand and it was fine/impossible" or similar. Experienced jumpers, being experienced and grownups, can judge for themselves, but I'm trying to evaluate the statement made by an instructor I knew years ago telling me that highly-loaded spinners required two hands to cutaway from.

What I am saying is you are going to get a bunch of anecdotal evidence on both sides arguing over the efficacy of a particular method. Just because someone says they did it a particular way and it worked does not mean it is the right way for you in that moment or even in general. The reality is that every situation has too many variables and happens too fast to make a decision about 1 vs 2 handed EPs, so pull the handles in whatever way you were taught or feel comfortable with.

  9. People who are going to post in this thread will say these things:

1-handed EPs are better because you don't have to waste time finding the other handle and the response will be quicker.

2-handed EPs are better because you might have a hard time pulling the velcro with 1 hand and it forces you to do them one at a time so that you do not have an incomplete cutaway resulting in a main reserve entanglement.
