Bring a case of beer, and grab an experienced jumper.

I'll have to do that! Hopefully the weather will be better next weekend- if the forecast looks gnarly (and we all know how reliable the forecasters are) then I'll just have to skip a day of classes or something. I need to jump ASAP!!! It'll be a month on sunday [:/]

Perfect time to do a packing class!

My thoughts exactly! So I called and asked if I could do one, and the girl who does the classes was getting married that day!!! ugh what a drag ;) lol but they said I'd have to sign up for one and that there weren't any available >:( So I guess I'll just have to schedule it and come up next weekend- oh darn!!!

are you going to get your A license before you go visiting all these DZ's? It will make your jumping much easier.

I was supposed to finish it this past weekend, but the winds were so bloody high that no students were allowed to jump; I only have 2 more to go till i have it, plus the packing class :( how depressing. I want to get off student status as soon as possible naturally, but I don't want to go too fast either. I don't want to end up in the incidents forums! But I will definitely have my A before I leave.

  4. :D LOL! I know right?! It's so funny because I grew up with a massive mutt who out weighed me till I was like 13 but here I am with the little dude. Although frou-frou dogs aren't my style, Winston is pretty chill and low maintenance, so I'm cool with him. We're a team, anyway. I'll probably get laughed off every DZ I hit, but c'est la vie

  5. He's mostly maltese and yorkie but thankfully doesn't act like a yorkie! I can't stand yapping dogs either. It's funny b/c I love big dogs, but Winston kinda fell into my lap a few years ago and he's been great for me :)
I thought about that, and figured that if I let them know the deal they'd be lenient.

  6. Lol i've stepped in it too, but not at a DZ... NOBODY appreciates that! I doubt I'd be making any new friends by having people track dog poo around. I've taken him on a few road trips, but never one for so long or while camping at a DZ so I want it to go smoothly. He's super friendly, and not a yapper so I think he'll be good :)
Andy: thanks for adding that link, i found a great thread on there from a while back and it had some awesome insights. I was planning on keeping him on a leash in a shady spot but I might get one of those enclosed play area things instead. I can appreciate that dogs won't be welcome by all, but in this instance, the little man's gotta come along. I want to make as little hassle for all as possible ;)

  7. As a dog lover I would hope that people would be cool with a chill pup, but as a realist I know that lots of people just don't dig dogs- which is totally understandable. I don't want to force my dog on anyone or invade anyone's space, I just hope to find a happy medium so that we can do our thing and have fun along the way while letting dog-friendly jumpers do their thing and let those who aren't so fond of them do theirs :) I don't want to make drama. But I know Winston loves treats and people so I think he'll have a ball! I'm still pretty new to the sport, but it seems like most skydivers are really chill (regardless of their pet preferences :P) and I think I'm pretty respectful, so I hope people won't have cause for beef with Winston or me. I'm more worried about leaving him alone while I'm jumping etc. I'm a softy so I baby him lol

  8. Hey all, I'm planning on doing a cross country road trip (FL to CA and back) in a couple months, and will be stopping at DZs along the way. I'll be bringing my dog, a 15 lb pooch who's sweet as pie and super chill... I've called ahead at two of the four spots i'm planning on jumping at, and they said that as long as I keep him in the camping area it'll be cool. I wanted to ask those of you who travel with your dogs or bring them to your DZ for some advice. Obviously I know to keep him secured and out of everyone's way, and to clean up after him, but what do you guys think are some things I ought to know? I want to be a responsible dog owner and not piss people off. Thanks guys for any input!

  9. I'm right there with you! i've only seen snow twice, but i think that was enough for me. When it gets that cold, that's when I break out the "winter coat" which is probably like a spring jacket for you snowbirds :P

I was down in clewiston last month. and the low one night was 28 deg. but yeah the fla peeps were freaking. they were all like " man the water in my dogs dish FROZE!!!" like it was a magic trick or something

I was actually camping at the DZ after thanksgiving, and it got about that cold. Here I was, a native floridian in a tent, and all I had was my fucking lightweight sleeping bag. It was hellish! I was wearing like four layers- I'm surprised I survived lol

Theres a boogie next weekend too! Perfect time to come and play in Florida!

i'm so stoked... thank god for spring break. i need a little R&R (by which i mean jumping, of course ;)) I'll be there!!! and um, yeah... FL is the place to be- none of that pesky stuff called snow. Our "arctic" temperatures is classified as 40 degrees on a bad day.

  12. ... i dunno about all the shananagins going on in here lol, but i just watched your video, Tammy- you can totally tell you're already hooked B| can't wait for the tunnel!!! you're going to be goin solo soon! psyched much?

  13. I work with students with all sorts of disabilities at my university, and yep, ADD is most definitely a disability. The ADA (american disabilities act) says so :) ADD can severely hinder students (in particular) and meds but also accommodations really help. however i do think that a LOT of people milk the system, which is really irritating to see, cause it just slows everyone else down.

  14. i'm almost done with my A license requriments, so stoked! can't wait to get my own rig and start jumping with others. lol you're the first dz.commer i've met too so don't feel bad. I've probably met some but just didn't know it. and i'm sure i'll see you at the dz again soon- i'm there every pretty much other weekend (read here: as often as budget will allow >:(). Hell at your rate you'll probably catch up to me in two weeks! thanks for the luck and good luck on your AFF!!!

  15. Congrats on your first two jumps! It was really nice to meet you, and I'm so glad you're so stoked. Trust me, this is so exhilarating, I'm tempted to drop everything and just live at the DZ (really tempted). From here on out it only gets better and more addicting!

  16. I heavily lean towards the academic/substantial/intellectual conversations. I get that a lot too, when people find out that my hobbies are out of the box, they're totally shocked. I guess I seem really subdued because I don't just chit chat about stupid crap. Although I like to go out occasionally, I can't handle it in large doses- I get really irritated, especially if I have to deal with a bunch of babbling idiots. Being social is great, but we 'I' types need a break from the group thing.

  17. Hey everyone, I'm pretty new to skydiving, as well as to the site, so I thought I'd introduce myself. I did five tandems over a period of two years, even though I knew I loved it I just kept doing them; but now I'm finally learning to do it on my own! I completed the first three levels of my AFF and I can't wait to keep learning and jumping. Thank goodness for the nice weather (sorry to rub it in guys lol) and with blue skies I'll be sailing right along.
