I have an exit weight of around 230-240. If I remember correctly I have 34 jumps under my belt.

would I be pushing too much to go from the 1.04 WL I was previously jumping to a 1.21 WL of a 190?

I'm a low timer myself but I can tell you that you should not increase your wing loading for quite a while. Check out this chart.

I am interested in the best weight exercises to help w/ general muscle strength and endurance for a big skydiving weekend. My main exercise is running, so while I am fit I don't have as much upper body strength as some people and my arms get tired after a full weekend (especially if I do a high pull or have to fly in brakes a long way, etc).

I do a little weight lifting during the week to supplement my running and was interested to know what the best exercises were to increase strength and endurance for skydiving so I can tweak my routine.

    Thanks in advance.

I finally joined a gym again after a long layoff. I lift weights and do cardio 3-4 times a week and I can't believe the difference it's made for me. Everything about jumping is easier from arching to packing. My recommendation for you is to hit every muscle group, including legs, about every seven days, and really lift like you mean it with all the effort you can muster. In my opinion there's no best exercise as long as you work hard and stick to it. Good luck :)

I'm unsure as to how much it will cost, should i take some four hour class, should it be tandem, static line, AFF....?

Being pretty new myself I understand your overwhelmation. Everyone will have a different opinion on the best method of training for your first jump. My opinion is that there is no right or wrong way to make your first jump. Tandem training is maybe 20-30 minutes and you're strapped to an expert during your jump which includes freefall. That's about $200 and up depending on where you live. IAD (instructor aided deployment) and static line require a first jump course that could be as long as eight hours, and it costs approximately the same as a tandem, and since you're jumping solo, you are the one totally responsible for ensuring your own safety and that's pretty cool. IAD and static line first jumps are at a lower altitude with virtually no freefall. AFF is the most expensive training method initially, around $300 for your first jump, but you get instructors in stereo (one on each side) and freefall time too. You may not remember a lot of your actual jump so I'd recommend budgeting another $60-$80 for video.

First jumps can be scary but the more you know, the less scared you'll be. Good luck.

Why doesn't everyone just crack a beer and relax

You can relax when you're dead and your family can crack a beer in the parking lot at your closed casket funeral.

Talk less, listen more, lose the attitude and you might be okay.

  5. The first and only time I ever saw a bong was when I was riding with my brother who was a cop. We went to a domestic call, and when he came out of the house he was holding a bong. When he got back in the squad car he handed it to me and said "maintain this," and off we went to the next call. Later he put it in the evidence room. That was the end of my experience with a bong. You are not alone sister. :)

    Tarantino is such a hack.

Don't believe me? Watch the first "chapter" (maybe 30 minutes) of the film.

And for cryin out loud don't read any critics' reviews prior to seeing it. Some give away the jaw-dropper ending to that chapter.

  9. My dog door freezes shut too. Don't know why. My dog used to just bust through it but now that she's gone I have to put that miracle substance WD-40 on it so my cat can go through. Works great.

  10. I shut a car's lights off once. I think you did the right thing. Once at school years ago I left my lights on and came out close to midnight to a dead car battery and no jumper cables.

show some sensitivity. skydiving is full of "things beyond our control" that's the danger, not the fact that we jumped out of a plane.

    Exactly right.

I would say about 30 mistakes dangerous.

Not everyone who died in 2008 died because they made a mistake. Sometimes accidents just happen, even to highly intelligent, well-trained, safety-conscious people.

    30 US fatalities 1n 2008

    18 in 2007 :(

hell yea! either skydiving is getting more dangerous or more jumps were made. Either way is fine with me. All those tandems that whacked in didnt help the number stay low. A tandem is often two fatalities for the price of one. Had quite a few no pulls and terminal impacts this year too. At least the extra fatalities were in dramatic fasion. Thats Style points for the 2008 fatalities. 2009 has started with a bang too. Already some one fell out of a rig. Style points!Thats going to be hard to beat. Oh well I guess thats why skydiving is cool. Lets be honest if it were safe it would be nothing more than a game of checkers, you wouldnt brag to your friends about it, your family wouldnt think you were the "wild"one, and guys wouldnt be able to use it to pick up girls. Now ask yourself. "Do I want to live in a world where skydiving is safe?" or do you want to say " thirty dudes whacked in skydiving this year and I wasnt one of them"? And hey if you are one of them, then you didnt die for nothing. You helped carry on the tradition of skydiving being dangerous and badass. Therefore making the rest of us look awesome. Rest in peace knowing that some guy is getting sweet loving because of your sacrifice.

Sorry I couldn't make it clicky. I tried.

Paragear sells pull up cords for 25 cents each. I think their minimum internet order is $25. I don't know much about dropzone etiquette but I'd recommend buying a bunch and always having them on hand for yourself and anybody who needs one. If you're broke like me and everybody else I know, PM me your address and I'll send you a couple to get you by.
